Abstract

Phytochemical test and antibacterial activity of methanol extract of Mentawa leaf (Articarpus anisophyllus Mig.) have been done. The extraction of Mentawa leaf samples was carried out by the maceration method using methanol as a solvent. An antibacterial activity test was carried out using the agar diffusion method. Phytochemical tests results show that methanol extract of Mentawa leaf has secondary metabolites of flavonoid, steroid, triterpenoid, phenolic, and quinone compounds. The antibacterial activity test results obtained MIC values for Salmonella typhi bacteria were 1.25-2.5%, Streptococcus mutans bacteria were 0-0,625%, Streptococcus sobrinus bacteria were 1.25-2.5% and for Propionibacterium acnes bacteria were 0.625-1.25%. Methanol extract of Mentawa leaf has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria is one of the source of extracellular enzymes producer. Enzymes that produced by endophytic bacteria are more beneficial because they can be cultured in small spaces with big quantities, relatively fast time and cheaper production costs compared to the sources of enzyme from plants and animals. This study was conducted to obtain amylase, lipase and protease from endophytic bacteria of ciplukan leaves (Physalis angulata L.). The research method used is experimental, by isolating endophytic bacteria from ciplukan leaves (Physalis angulata L.) in Nutrient Agar (NA) media and screening tests of extracellular enzyme activity from endophytic bacteria isolates. The isolation results was obtained 24 endophytic bacteria isolates that 4 bacteria isolates produce amylase, 3 bacteria isolates produce lipase and 2 bacteria produce protease.

Abstract

Plants at this time are widely used as medicine because according to some research medicinal materials, plants that have the potential as medicine do not cause too many side effects. One of the plants that are used as medicine is agarwood leaves because it is known to have several medicinal properties, one of them is as an antibacterial drug. This study was conducted to find out the secondary metabolite compounds contained in agarwood leaves and to determine the MIC value of agarwood leaves methanol extract against Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422, by means of agarwood leaves extracted using methanol, phytochemical screening, and antibacterial activity tests using disc diffusion method. Phytochemical screening of agarwood leaves methanol extract results revealed alkaloids, steroids and phenolics. The MIC value of agarwood leaves methanol extract toward Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 is 1.25%.

Abstract

Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L.) is one of the herb plants used as traditional medicine, such as toothache medicine and diarrhea medicine. The purposed of this study was to determined the type of secondary metabolites in the ethanol extract of meniran herb and to determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of the ethanol extract of meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L.) to Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422. The ethanol extract of meniran was tested for phytochemicals. The MIC value of the ethanol extract of meniran herb for the test bacteria was obtained by varying the concentration of the ethanol extract of meniran herbs. Phytochemical test results showed that the ethanol extract of meniran herbs contains alkaloids, phenolics and steroids. The minimum inhibitory concentration value of the ethanol extract of meniran herb at the bacteria Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 each was 0.625%. Keywords: Phyllanthus niruri L, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898, Salmonella typhi ATCC 422

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria are microorganisms that throughout or part of their life cycle inside plants and will not appear certain symptoms on the plant itself. Endophytic bacteria can produce enzymes. Enzymes produced by bacterial endophytes are more beneficial because the production time is faster. One of the plants that contain bacteria is Pucuk Merah (Syzygium myrtifolium). This study aims to isolate endophytic bacteria from leaves of Pucuk Merah (Syzygium myrtifolium) and to screen these endophytic bacteria as amylase, lipase and protease producers. The results of this study were obtained there are 24 isolates of endophytic bacteria from Pucuk Merah leaves. A total of 19 bacterial isolates from 24 bacterial isolates produce amylase, 1 isolate produce lipase and 24 isolates produce protease. Abstract

This research was conducted to the content of secondary metabolite of methanol extract of Cayratia carnosa leaf and activity toward Salmonella thypi and Propionibacterium acnes. The phytochemical test has tested by color testing and antibacterial activity carried out by agar diffution method. The secondary metabolites contained in the methanol extract from the Cayratia carnosa leaf are Flavonoids, Steroid and phenolic. Methanol extract from Cayratia carnosa leaf has a wide range of action. The value of Minimun Inhibitory Concentracion (MIC) for methanol extracts from the Cayratia carnosa leaf toward Salmonella thypi is between 6 to 8% and Propionibacterium acnes between 0.5 to 1%. Abstract

The test of amylase inhibition activity of the leaves of Melicope lunu-ankenda and bark of Melicope glabra (BI.) T.G. Hartley extracts were done. The objective of this study was to determine in-vitro α-amylase inhibition activity against two samples by DNS method. The result showed that two samples of Melicope lunu-ankenda leaves and bark of Melicope glabra (BI.) TG Hartley displayed the enzyme inhibitory effect with percent inhibitions of 48.71% and 46.36%. Two sample extracts can inhibit amylase. It can be suggested that about sample were potential as antidiabetic agents.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria found in plant tissues can produce enzymes, one of which is lipase. The purpose of this study was to screening endophytic bacteria from the leaves of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) which produced lipases. The method used in this study is screening with media nutrient agar (NA) containing Rhodamine B and olive oil. The results showed that 4 of bacterial isolates (D1, D2, D3 and D4) from 14 endophytic bacterial isolates had lipase activity. The crude lipase extract was quantitatively tested for lipase activity by the titrimetry method. The highest lipase activity was shown by isolates with a D1 code of 1.50 U/mL.

Abstract

The research about in vitro trakeospasmolytic response of methanol extract of Macaranga lamellata Whitmore leaves was carried out. This research was conducted to determine the spasmolytic effect of the methanol extract of Macaranga lamellata Whitmore leaves on changes in separate organ of the guinea pig ring tracheal. The methods used include the bioassay isolated organ with two groups of treatment, control group and extract group. Methanol extract was given cumulatively on the organ bath. Positive control is used aminofilin and negative control is used DMSO solvent. Phytochemical test results showed that total methanol extract contained alkaloids, polyphenol, steroids, flavonoids dan saponins while phytochemical test results showed on ethyl acetate fraction contained alkaloids, polyphenol, steroids, quinons dan flavonoids. The Percentage change in tracheal smooth muscle as a spasmolytic response by using methanol extract with cumulative concentration of 0.3, 1 dan 3 mg/mL respectively -24.925%; -29.865% and -36.795% . This research is shown methanol extract of Macaranga lamellata Whitmore leaves have antiasthma effect based on the tracheospasmolytic activity.
