Abstract

The increasing resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics has become a global problem in the field of health. The main causes of antibiotic resistance include inappropriate use of antibiotics, the use of plants as drugs is an alternative method to reduce the level of resistance to antibiotics. One of the plants that can be used as medicine is the Moringa plant. Moringa plants can be used as antioxidants, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory. This study was conducted to test the antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans fungi. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial effect of Moringa leaves (Moringa oelifera L.) against several microbes. The antimicrobial activity test of moringa leaf ethanol extract was carried out using the agar diffusion method, with concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30%. The results showed the average inhibition zone diameter of Escherichia coli bacteria was 9.5 mm, 10.23 mm and 12.36 mm, Staphylococcus aureus was 7.86 mm, 9.53 mm and 10.33 mm, and Candida albicans fungus was 6.43 mm, 7.8 mm, and 8.26 mm. The results of the study of ethanol extract at a concentration of 30% showed the greatest antimicrobial activity on Escherichia coli bacteria with an inhibition zone of 12.36 mm including the strong category.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder with an increasing prevalence each year, leading to several severe consequences. A crucial aspect of diabetes care is dietary management; however, adherence to a diet often causes stress in patients. Self-management knowledge and competency contribute significantly to a patient's ability to reduce stress and improve the success of a diet regimen. The purpose of this community service is to improve knowledge of diabetes diet, diabetes self-management, and reduce stress levels in type 2 DM patients. The methods used are lectures, discussions, and educational videos. Before and after the community service, questionnaires were administered regarding diabetes diet knowledge, diabetes self-management, and stress levels in following the diet. The results of the community service showed an increase in knowledge of diabetes diet (the average increase in diabetes diet knowledge score was 23.4 + 5.2), diabetes self-management (the average increase in diabetes self-management score was 7.1 + 3.23), and a decrease in stress levels (the average decrease in score was 13.4 + 4.21) in type 2 DM patients. Indirectly, this community service activity will improve the quality of life and well-being of type 2 DM patients at Bhayangkara Mohamad Hasan Hospital, Palembang.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder with increasing prevalence every year, which causes several severe consequences. An important aspect of diabetes care is dietary management; however, adherence to diet often causes stress in patients. Self-management knowledge and competence contribute significantly to the patient's ability to reduce stress and increase the success of the diet regimen. This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and self-management with stress levels in diabetes mellitus patients who adhere to the diet at Bhayangkara Mohamad Hasan Hospital Palembang in 2025. This study used a quantitative methodology with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 94 respondents was selected using a random sampling method, using a questionnaire to assess knowledge, self-management, and stress levels of patients. The study was conducted in June–July 2025 for 3 weeks at the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Bhayangkara Mohamad Hasan Hospital Palembang. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents demonstrated high knowledge (87.2%), good self-management (58.5%), and low stress levels (88.3%). The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between knowledge and stress levels (p=0.000) and between self-management and stress levels (p=0.047). This study showed that increased patient awareness of diabetes diet and better self-management methods correlated with decreased stress levels when adhering to the diet. This study underscores the need for education and support in self-management for diabetes patients to improve quality of life and reduce the risk of stress.

Abstract

A (63 tahun) dengan diagnosis medis kanker kolorektal. Kesimpulan: Perawat diharapkan dapat memberikan intervensi hipnosis lima jari kepada pasien kanker kolorektal untuk membantu mengurangi tingkat nyeri dan kecemasanKata Kunci: hipnosis lima jari, intervensi nonfarmakologis, kanker kolorektal, perawatan paliatif Effect of Five-Finger Hypnosis on Pain and Anxiety Levels in Colorectal Cancer Patients: A Case Study ABSTRACTThe literature on palliative care has exhibited a significant rise in the utilization of non-pharmacological interventions to address the physical, psychological, psychosocial, and spiritual challenges encountered by patients with terminal illnesses. Among these interventions, five-finger hypnosis has been employed as a non-pharmacological approach to manage pain and anxiety levels in patients with terminal diseases. Objective:  to assess the extent to which pain and anxiety scales were reduced after implementing the five-finger hypnosis intervention. Methods: This case study utilized direct demonstration and purposive sampling techniques to select suitable participants meeting the inclusion criteria, namely elderly patients with cancer. The intervention was administered to Mr. A, a 63-year-old individual diagnosed with colorectal cancer. The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were utilized as pre-test and post-test instruments, administered after each session of five-finger hypnosis lasting approximately 10-15 minutes, and implemented over a one-week period. Results: This case study indicated that the patient experienced an average reduction of 1 point on the pain scale and a decrease of 6 points in anxiety levels following the one-week intervention. Discussion:  The five-finger hypnosis can influence the limbic system and autonomic nerves, thereby fostering a state of relaxation, safety, and contentment. This, in turn, stimulates the reward center and triggers the release of various chemical substances, including Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA), enkephalin, and β-endorphin, which act to alleviate pain neurotransmitters. Conclusion: It is recommended that nurses consider incorporating five-finger hypnosis interventions as part of their care provision for patients with colorectal cancer, as it can contribute to reducing pain and anxiety levels experienced by these individuals. Keywords: five-finger hypnosis, non-pharmacological interventions, colorectal cancer, palliative care
