Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the success rate of non-penetrative pre slaughter stunning (NPPSS) and the factors that influence it in 460 Australian Brahman cross cattle. Observations were made on the handling of cattle, the implementation of NPPSS, the slaughtering process until the animal was declared dead. The results showed that the stunning success rate of NPPSS (SSR) was 74.35%. Ordinal regression analysis of the six observed parameters, three parameters have a significant influence on SSR: shooting placement area (ASP), shooting placement distance (DSP), and the presence of frontal and nuchal eminence (FE, NE). The ASP at the point of the cross line between two lines from the center of the dorsal eye to the center of the contralateral horn base, DSP at a low position (DSP<3 cm), and presence of FE gave a relatively low of SSR. Thus, it can be concluded that the SSR of the use of NPPSS in Indonesia is relatively low and is influenced by ASP, DSP, and the presence of FE and NE.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the competitiveness and appeal of processed water guava products in Pranan Village through digitalization and branding training using hands-on supervised training. The training was designed to empower the PKK women's group with knowledge and skills in utilizing digital technology for product marketing. The program began with theoretical education on effective branding concepts, followed by hands-on practice using Canva and Capcut applications. Participants received step-by-step guidance in creating creative and engaging digital marketing media. The hands-on training was supervised to ensure that each participant could effectively apply the taught materials. The results of this training showed a significant improvement in participants' ability to understand and implement branding techniques, as well as utilizing digital tools in their marketing strategies. Additionally, feedback from participants indicated increased confidence in managing and marketing processed water guava products more professionally. The conclusion of this study is that hands-on supervised training in digitalization and branding can effectively enhance digital marketing competence and ultimately support the increased sales and competitiveness of local products. This success highlights the importance of practical and targeted training approaches in empowering local communities to adapt to the increasingly digital market demands.

Abstract

As the lecturers of higher education, what we can do is to contribute back to society. We need to apply the rule of leadership, empathy, and also give and take. We believe that even though we are not giving them much, but it is better than no right. It may sounds like there’s no innovation, we do admit that. However we thought that the outcome we get is far more important than innovation that we do not even have any ideas about leadership and empathy.

Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris bagi mahasiswa KKN PPM 2023 ini bertujuan mendekatkan praktik nyata mahasiswa dengan masyarakat dalam upaya merintis Kampung London di Desa Jomboran, Klaten Tengah. Desain kegiatan berupa pembelajaran praktik nyata bahasa Inggris secara lengkap baik ranah tata bahasa (vocabulary) maupun percakapan  (conversation). Kegiatan ini bekerja sama dengan Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Widya Dharma Klaten. Hasil kegiatan diperoleh  perubahan positif dan signifikan dimana uji pre-test dan post-test signifikan ada perubahan pengetahuan, ketrampilan baik oral maupun menulis berbahasa Inggris bagi masyarakat Desa Jomboran di Klaten. Kesemuanya bermuara pada semakin meningkat eksistensi Desapolitan Jomboran sebagai konsep desa wisata unggulan di Kabupaten Klaten.

Abstract

Gelatin is a versatile raw material extensively used in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. It is produced globally by partially hydrolyzing collagen derived from pigs and cows, leading to religious and ethical concerns among various communities. Therefore, this study aimed to explore alternative methods to distinguish porcine, bovine, and mixed gelatin by analyzing the unique profiles of their total volatile compounds. The volatilomics method integrated solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS) with chemometrics. The results showed that principal component analysis (PCA) of the volatile compounds from gelatin powder had clear classification among porcine, bovine, and mixed gelatin, suggesting the discrimination ability of the method. Furthermore, partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) identified distinct marker compounds that significantly contributed to the classification of each gelatin type. The marker compounds for porcine gelatin included 2-decen-1-ol, 2-dodecenal, cyclohexane 1-butenylidene, decane 3,6-dimethyl, cyclohexanone 2-propyl, borinic acid, 3-tetradecyn-1-ol, 2-tridecene, 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-2-one, and 2-n-butyl furan. For bovine gelatin, the marker compounds were 2-heptanone 3-methyl, nonane 5-butyl, tridecane 6-methyl, 1-hexacosanol, nonane 3-methyl-5-propyl, undecane 3-methyl, octane 4-methyl, 2,4-undecadienol, and 1-hexadecanol 2-methyl.

Abstract

Terbang pada kelelawar merupakan moda gerak utama karena mereka adalah satu-satunya mamalia yang dapat terbang. Karakteristik morfologi membran sayap diduga berperan penting dalam kemampuan terbangnya. Penelitian ini menganalisis morfologi fungsional membran sayap kelelawar besar (Pteropus vampyrus), dengan fokus pada pengaturan serat elastis dan kolagen. Dalam penelitian ini, kami menggunakan dua kelelawar dewasa yang ditangkap di alam liar dari Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Potongan jaringan membran sayap diwarnai menggunakan pewarnaan hematoksilin-eosin, trikrom Masson, dan Verhoeff-Van Gieson. Membran sayap kelelawar terdiri dari kulit berlapis ganda yang ditutupi oleh lapisan epidermis tipis. Membran sayap terdiri dari serat kolagen dan bundel elastin yang tertata rapi yang disisipkan di antara dua lapisan kulit. Serat kolagen memperkuat membran sayap dengan menahan tekanan udara, sedangkan serat elastis memberikan fleksibilitas pada sayap. Hal ini dapat menggambarkan kekuatan dan fleksibilitas membran sayap kelelawar besar selama terbang.

Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture plays a crucial role in the fishery commodities to enhance the economy in Indonesia. The development of Vaname shrimp culture in Bengkunat Coastal Lampung has a strong potential due to its extensive coastline. To support the high demand of vaname shrimp, the intensive shrimp method can address this solution. However, intensive culture has a high distribution of shrimp requires large amounts of feed, that contributes to organic pollution in the water. Therefore, this study aims to determine the characteristics of shrimp farming residual water based on variations in shrimp ages to develop wastewater management strategies. This study was conducted from January 16 to March 12, 2024 at Lumintu shrimp pond in Bengkunat. This research is an exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach to assess the total of ammonia, nitrite, total organic matter (TOM), total bacterial abundance (TBC), and total vibrio bacteria (TVC). In conclusion, the study indicates that ammonia, nitrite, total bacterial count (TBC), and total Vibrio count (TVC) are within acceptable ranges. However, total organic matter (TOM) surpasses safe levels for shrimp ponds.

Abstract

Rabbits are meat-producing livestock with high productivity. Rabbit meat has high nutritional content and is good for health. The DKI Jakarta Government through the Center for Animal Health and Livestock Services (Pusyankeswannak) has opened the Bambu Apus Livestock Park. This research was conducted to determine the productivity of bambu apus rabbit carcasses as broiler rabbits to support urban farming programs in DKI Jakarta. Ten of bambu apus rabbits (five males and five females), ten of new zealand white rabbits (eight males and two females) and 17 rexsi grinak rabbits (eight males and nine females) were used. The body weights of the rabbits ranged from 2000 to 3000 g per head. This research has obtained Ethical Clearance (Balitbangtan/Center for Animal Husbandry Research BRIN/NRm/01/2022). Rabbits were slaughtered according to Islamic Syar’i and the carcass were cutting according to the commercial cut. A completely randomized design with a 3 x 2 factorial pattern (sex and type of rabbit) was used with carcass productivity and meat physical properties as variables. Bambu apus rabbits have good carcass productivity (Carcass Percentage, Meat Bone Ratio), meat on commercial cuts (Loin and Hindleg) and carcass quality (pH, tenderness, Water Holding Capacity and cooking losses) which were the same as new zealand white rabbits and rexsi agrinak rabbits as the broiler rabbit. Bambu apus rabbits have good carcass production and carcass meat quality so they have the potential to be developed into broiler rabbits in support of urban farming programs.

Abstract

Talud merupakan bangunan penahan tanah dari sebuah diding, baik itu dinding sebuah bukit jalan raya, saluran air ataupun dinding penahan tanah lainnya. Kondisi talud yang tidak kokoh akan membahayakan jika terjadi kelongsoran. Dalam penelitian ini telah dikaji pembiayaan renovasi talud sebuah sungai di kampung Nayu Timur kalurahan Nusukan kota Surakarta sepanjang 200 meter yang sudah rusak dan sangat membahayakan rumah penduduk di sekitarnya. Jarak rumah penduduk dengan sungai hanya sekitar 50 cm dan kondisi tanah di sana tergolong tanah gerak. Tanah labil/gerak akan menimbulkan kelongsoran dan dapat merusak bagunan yang ada sampai pada keruntuhan. Dalam perhitungan dengan memakai standar SNI untuk pekerjaan talud beton didapatkan Rencana Anggaran Biaya sebesar Rp.108.400.000, sedangkan untuk talud pasangan batu muka didapatkan Rencana Anggaran Biaya sebesar Rp 83.200.000 yang mana lebih kecil Rp 25.200.000 atau 23,25% dibandingkan dengan talud cor beton fc = 21,7 MPa  (K250) dengan tulangan dari besi wiremesh.
