Abstract

his research aims at observing the role of parents in motivating their children in learning English, especially the children who study in Elementary School. The research found that the objective of knowing the background of social status of parents, the number of family, and the parent’s feeling role. However, wealth and the number of family do not always influence the children motivation but the awareness of how important the education is for the children future that will bring good effect to the children’s motivation in learning English. Key words : peranan orang tua, motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Inovasi pembelajaran banyak memberikan kemudahan pada proses pengajaran terutama siswa serta guru dalam penyampaian materi pelajaran. Metode mengajar dan media pembelajaran m enjadi faktor yang sangat penting dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Inovasi pemanfaatan film kartun dalam dapat dijadikan hal yang menarik bagi siswa pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Salah satu hal yang mendasari alasan penggunaan media tersebut adalah terkait dengn manfaat media dalam keberhasilan belajara mengajar di kelas. Media pembelajaran yang tepat dapat membangkitkan minat belajar yang tinggi, memberikan rangsangan kepada siswa untuk mempelajari lebih dalam lagi tentang materi terkait , sehingga memudahkan siswa dalam pemahaman dan penyerapan informasi. Kata kunci: inovasi, media, pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Abstract

Pendidikan adalah hal yang dianggap sangat penting di dunia, karena dunia butuh orang-orangyang berpendidikan agar dapat membangun Negara yang maju. Nilai-nilai dalam pendidikan merupakan sebuahentitas yang harus diaplikasikan pada diri anak semenjak dini dalam keseluruhan kehidupannya sehari-hari baikdi rumah, sekolah maupun lingkungan masyarakat. Hal ini sejalan dengan salah satu misi pendidikan kita yaitu“transfer of values” (penyampaian nilai-nilai). Pendidikan merupakan pangkal dari semua bidang kehidupan.kita. Sementara, gaung pendidikan karakter sudah sering kita dengar dan diaplikasikan di semua jenjang pendidikan,baik dari tingkat dasar hingga perguruan tinggi. Abstract

This study aims to know the students mastery on clauses of the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University of Klaten in academic year 2016/2017 and the difficulties faced in comprehending clauses. The method of collecting data is the test. The method of analyzing data is statistics in the form of mean score. The results are the students mastery on clauses of the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University of Klaten in academic year 2016/2017 is good; and the difficulties faced in comprehending clauses are identifying the functions of noun clause, determining the introductory conjunction, making adjective clause appropriately, selecting the appropriate verb, and determining the tense.

Abstract

In applying English sentence structure, learners need to know the patterns that must be mastered. In addition, in making sentences learners need to pay attention to different cultures between one learner and another. This study discusses the background of students? various cultures. This diversity is in terms of regional origin or provinces, mastered languages, and hobbies. However, this study focuses on hobbies. Student hobbies include: reading books, reading novels / comics, writing novels, graphic design, drawing, and so on. This is what encourages researchers to know the benefits of hobbies in learning English sentence structure. In this study researchers propose the problem "How to develop students? multi-cultural background in ?Structure? courses?? This problem is solved by collecting data on the construction of sentences that allude to multi-culture; thus they are referred to as data sources which were then scrutinized and recorded. In theory this method is called by Sudaryanto observation method. Finally, the research data were analyzed by qualitative descriptive method proposed by Seliger and Shohamy. From the results of the analysis, it can be known the kinds of construction that includes the students? hobbies. What researchers did was asking students to allude their hobbies in practicing the English structures. This appeal was initially ignored by students. Only a small number of students alluded their hobbies in making sentences. Researchers urged again to consider their hobbies in making sentences. In the end most students (75%) pay attention to hobbies or remember their hobbies in applying an English sentence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the students’ character reflected in Seminar on Linguistics course. The students’ character is limited to seven (7) types, namely: respect, honesty, courage, confident, communicative, curious, and cooperative. This course must be taken by VII semester students of the English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, University of Widya Dharma Klaten. This course was attended by eighteen (18) students and guided by one (1) lecturer who became the source of research data. The research data are in the form of the results of notes on the teaching and learning process of Seminar on Linguistics which were collected by directly observing the teaching and learning process of Seminar on Linguistics. The collected data were analyzed by statistical method especially the mean value. The students’ character is measured by the rubric. The result of the analysis shows that the students’ character reflected in Seminar on Linguistics course is very good with a mean value of 17.

Abstract

This study aims at enhancing students’ writing exposition paragraph through collaboration by utilizing Google Docs and peer-review technique. Based on the findings in preliminary research, students got difficulties in writing. The subject of this research is the fourth semester students of English Study Program of Widya Dharma University Klaten. Data showed from the pre-test, the students’ skills in each writing aspects are still low, namely organization (62%), content (65%), syntax/grammar (61%), mechanics (57%), and vocabulary (66%). The techniques of collecting the data in this study are observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. The technique of analyzing the data is using interactive model analysis from Miles & Huberman for qualitative data and descriptive statistic for quantitative data. The results of the study show that there are significant improvement of students’ writing exposition paragraph viewed from mean scores of pre-test (63, 1), cycle I (68, 35), cycle II (73, 2), and cycle III (81, 55). The findings also present that teaching writing through collaboration by using peer review technique using Google Docs can improve the students’ analytical and critical thinking, self-confidence, and social relation; make students to be more active; and create meaningful learning of the class situation.

Abstract

The aim of this research is obtain a profile of the numeracy literacy abilities of students who have participated in the Teaching Campus program through analysis of the problem solving. This type of research is a case study. The subjects of this research were alumni of the Class 3 Teaching Campus at Widya Dharma University. Research data collection uses test methods and interview methods. The research instruments are the main instrument (researcher) and auxiliary instrument (numeracy literacy test). This research uses triangulation techniques to obtain valid data. The results of this research are (1) in text type questions students mention important information, do not formulate the problem, do not write down strategies, solve the problem correctly, check again without alternative solutions; (2) on text and image type questions, students mention important information and formulate problems, convey strategies, implement strategies with wrong image patterns, recheck answers; and (3) on text and table type questions, students mention important information and formulate the problem briefly, do not convey strategies, solve problems by paying attention to tables, and are less careful in analyzing text and table.

Abstract

The use of English is very important nowadays. As the English teachers, we have a duty to share our knowledge to the society. English training is one activity that can be applied. In Menden Village, Kebonarum District, Klaten Regency, we were held this English training to the people who live there to become the participants. This activity is aimed to foster participants’ interest in mastering English, to provide additional basic knowledge of English, and to provide a way of learning English with specific strategies. It is hoped that this activity can be useful to their daily life to face the globalization era.
