Abstract

Mathematics has an important role in life, especially in the development of technology and science. Given the importance of mathematics, this subject is taught in schools, starting from early childhood education to high school, including in tertiary institutions. For some students, mathematics at school is a subject that is considered arduous and frightening. The teacher's role is important and necessary to increase students' interest in learning, especially in mathematics. Teachers are required to be precise in using effective models and being able to influence students to actively participate in the learning process to the fullest and increase their learning outcomes. This study aims to increase students' interest in learning with the Make a Match learning model which focuses on students interacting and collaborating in developing their knowledge through the concept of playing while learning. The method used in this study uses classroom action research. Starting from planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The use of make-a-match in mathematics with the mathematics of division, and multiplication with numbers, as well as the introduction of flat shapes and their results can increase student learning interest by 88.8% from previously only 58.8% by using lectures.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of online game playing, learning interest, and Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning achievement in Vocational High School (SMK) students. This study is based on increasing online game use among adolescents and the lack of empirical studies specifically highlighting its influence on interest and learning achievement in religious subjects. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A sample of 82 grade X students of SMK PGRI 2 Kediri was randomly selected. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire on the intensity of online game playing, a questionnaire on PAI learning interest, and documentation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) report card grades. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that learning interest had a significant positive effect on Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning achievement (p < 0.05). In contrast, the intensity of online game playing did not show a significant effect. However, high intensity of online game playing has the potential to take up students' study time and does not provide tangible benefits to improving their learning achievement. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.248 indicates that the two variables explain 24.8% of the variation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning achievement. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening learning interest as a primary strategy in improving learning outcomes and the need for wise time management in digital activities such as online games.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Quizizz as a gamified learning platform in enhancing students’ cognitive competence in mathematics at an Islamic elementary school (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah). The study focuses on cognitive development, an area that is often underexplored in primary Islamic education. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used, involving 20 fifth-grade students at MI Tarbiyatul Khoiriyah Kediri. Cognitive achievement was measured using a test aligned with Bloom’s revised taxonomy. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ cognitive competence, especially at the applying and analyzing levels. Quizizz supported active learning by engaging students in interactive, feedback-rich activities. Despite these positive outcomes, the study is limited by its small sample size, single-school setting, and short intervention period. Future research should include control groups and a larger population to validate and extend these results. Practically, the findings suggest that Quizizz can be systematically integrated into mathematics instruction at the Islamic elementary level to support structured cognitive development in an engaging and student-centered way.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the core character values and formation strategies implemented by dzuriyah (descendants of the founders) in shaping the character of santri ndalem (resident student-assistants) at Pondok Pesantren Lirboyo HM Al-Mahrusiyah. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that key character values instilled include tafaqquh fi ad-din (deep religious understanding), honesty, responsibility, discipline, and independence. These values are internalized through daily acts of service, emotional closeness, and consistent spiritual practice. The character-building strategies consist of habitual training, role modeling, situational advice, and spiritual reinforcement through prayer. The relationship between dzuriyah and santri ndalem resembles a familial bond that fosters a holistic and humanistic learning environment. Challenges include role conflict between academic obligations and service duties, as well as cultural diversity among students. Despite its single-site limitation, this study contributes conceptually to the development of community-based and spiritually grounded character education in Islamic boarding schools, aligning with Global Citizenship Education values of empathy, tolerance, and moral responsibility.
