Abstract

Artikel ini berisi tentang laporan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berupa pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi edmodo sebagai sarana pembelajaran daring bagi tenaga pendidik di SMP N 1 Kefamenanu. Umumnya guru di SMP N 1 sudah memahami bahwa pembelajaran daring dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan beberapa sarana/media aplikasi. Namun sayangnya dikarenakan keterbatasan informasi dan fasilitas teknologi hanya terdapat 1 orang guru atau sekitar 5% guru yang mengetahui tentang aplikasi Edmodo dari 20 orang guru yang ditugaskan sebagai peserta atau subjek dampingan. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei 2021 dengan metode operasional berbentuk pelatihan singkat. Secara teknis, seluruh tahapan dalam kegiatan ini terdiri dari tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Dengan adanya kegiatan pelatihan ini, 20 guru yang menjadi peserta kegiatan telah mampu mengaplikasikan aplikasi edmodo sebagai alternatif sarana dalam pembelajran daring khususnya pada saat pandemi seperti sekarang ini. Berdasarkan hasil pengisian kuisioner pascakegiatan, respon dari subjek dampingan menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan pelatihan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi subjek dampingan. Tenaga pendidik di lingkungan SMP N 1 Kefamenanu yang menjadi subjek dampingan kini mengerti dan memahami bagaimana mengaplikasikan aplikasi edmodo dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar di sekolah. Sebagai tindak lanjut dari kegiatan pelatihan ini, tim juga berencana menyelenggarakan kegiatan serupa kepada guru-guru lain yang ada di wilayah Kabupaten Timor Tengah Utara.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis cara masyarakat eks Timor Timur di desa Oebelo dalam mempertahankan bahasa Tetun. Hal tersebut tidak terlepas dari pilihan masyarakat eks Timor Timur yang memilih menetap di Indonesia khususnya Kabupaten Kupang pascareferendum. sasalah satu wilayah yang banyak ditinggali oleh masyarakat eks Timor Timur adalah desa Oebelo. Desa Oebelo merupakan desa dengan penutur multilingual, namun bahasa utamanya adalah bahasa Dawan. Hal ini menjadikan masyarakat eks Timor Timur yang tadinya adalah penutur mayoritas bahasa Tetun di wilayahnya kini berubah menjadi penutur minoritas. Hal ini tentu sangat berpengaruh pada pemertahanan bahasa Tetun karena akses penggunaan yang semakin terbatas. Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode campuran yang memadukan penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitiatif. Penelitian kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengetahui intensitas penggunaan Bahasa Tetun di kalangan masyarakakt eks Timor Timur, sedangkan metode kualitatif digunakan untuk mengetahui lebih detail tentang cara masyarakat eks Timor Timur dalam mempertahankan penggunaan Bahasa Tetun dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa ada empat cara/upaya masyarakat eks pengungsi Timtim dalam mempertahankan bahasa Tetun, 1) sistem domisili berdasarkan daerah asal, 2) pemerolehan bahasa melalui keluarga dan masyarakat, 3) eksistensi adat istiadat khususya tuturan ritual, dan 4) mendengarkan lagu berbahasa Tetun.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the marine eco-lexicon of the Dawan community in Oesoko Village, Timor Tengah Utara Regency, and analyze its meanings based on Haugen’s three-dimensional ecolinguistic approach: ideological, sociological, and biological. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and audio recording. The results show that the Oesoko community possesses a wide range of lexicons representing maritime activities such as fishing, salt processing, and net mending. These lexicons reflect ecological knowledge, cultural values, and the community’s social structure. The ideological dimension reveals the belief systems embedded in maritime practices; the sociological dimension highlights collective work and intergenerational knowledge transmission; and the biological dimension emphasizes the traditional yet intensive use of natural resources. Thus, the eco-lexicon not only functions as a communication tool but also as a reflection of local cultural and ecological identity that must be preserved.

Abstract

Migration and forced displacement often create complex multilingual environments in which communities must negotiate between maintaining their heritage language and adapting to dominant languages in the host society. In such contexts, language choice becomes a key sociolinguistic phenomenon reflecting social interaction, identity formation, and language maintenance. However, studies on language choice and language shift within refugee communities in Indonesia remain limited. This study investigates language choice among the Viqueque community in Oebelo Village, Kupang Regency, a refugee group originating from East Timor following the 1999 referendum. This research employed a mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with 287 respondents, consisting of 181 adults and 106 adolescents. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically to explore sociolinguistic factors influencing language choice. The findings show that Tetun, Indonesian, and the Kupang Malay dialect are actively used in the family domain, with significant generational differences. Among adults, Tetun remains dominant in spousal communication (63–66.3%), whereas Indonesian is more frequently used in parent–child interactions (60.1–65.2%). In contrast, adolescents predominantly use Indonesian with parents (61.3–70.8%), while the Kupang Malay dialect dominates sibling interactions (40.5–51.9%). These patterns indicate an intergenerational language shift from Tetun toward Indonesian and Kupang Malay. This study contributes empirical evidence on language choice and heritage language shift in refugee communities, highlighting the crucial role of family interactions in sustaining minority languages within multilingual migrant societies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of changes in the meaning of loanwords in modern Indonesian occurs without adequate linguistic supervision, potentially leading to ambiguity. The urgency of this research lies in the need to map changes in meaning influenced by digital media, the social environment, and culture. The purpose of this study is to analyse the types and patterns of changes in the meaning of loanwords in the modern Indonesian corpus and to understand the perceptions of young users towards this phenomenon. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data. The sample size was 260 elementary school students in Kefamenanu City, selected purposively. Data collection techniques were carried out through corpus analysis, closed-ended surveys with a Likert scale, and structured interviews. Data analysis techniques combined descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results show that the meaning of words such as event, platform, and literacy has shifted significantly from their original meaning due to the influence of media and social usage. In conclusion, the meaning of loanwords is dynamic and contextual. The implications of these findings indicate the need to integrate material on changes in meaning in language learning and the development of language policies that are adaptive to the semantic developments of modern society.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat pemahaman masyarakat terhadap rambu lalu lintas serta kaitannya dengan tingkat pelanggaran rambu lalu lintas di Kota Kefamenanu, Kabupaten Timor Tengah Utara. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa studi literatur, dokumentasi, dan angket yang disebarkan kepada 100 responden pengguna kendaraan bermotor. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman masyarakat terhadap rambu lalu lintas tergolong cukup baik dengan tingkat pemahaman rata-rata 84,8%. Namun demikian, data dari Polres TTU mencatat sebanyak 317 kasus pelanggaran lalu lintas selama periode Juni hingga Desember 2024. Hal ini mengindikasikan adanya kesenjangan antara pemahaman masyarakat dengan perilaku berlalu lintas yang ditunjukkan melalui tingginya angka pelanggaran. Kesimpulannya, pemahaman masyarakat yang relatif baik tidak secara otomatis menurunkan angka pelanggaran lalu lintas. Faktor lain seperti kebiasaan, kesadaran pribadi, dan penegakan hukum turut memengaruhi perilaku masyarakat dalam berlalu lintas.

Abstract

This study investigates the socio-econo-ecolinguistic dimensions of traditional culinary lexicons in Malaka Regency, a border area in eastern Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative descriptive design involving three social groups students, school pupils, and the general community as participants to capture intergenerational perspectives on traditional culinary knowledge. The study aims to (1) identify the linguistic forms of traditional culinary lexicons, (2) examine the dynamics of lexicon maintenance within local communities, and (3) analyze the socio-economic and ecological meanings embedded in traditional culinary practices. Data were obtained through field-based research methods, including community observation and documentation of local culinary terminology. The findings reveal sixteen traditional culinary lexicons: akar bilan, batar tasak, batar sonan, batar daan, batar tunun, batar faihedik, filun, fehuk tunun, fehuk sonan, fehuk hukus, fehuk daan, hudi tasak, hudi tunun, hudi daan, nunak, and es nu. These lexicons comprise basic and phrasal forms that convey cultural values, perform descriptive functions, and carry symbolic meanings rooted in local traditions. With regard to lexical vitality, the study indicates a weakening of intergenerational transmission, as younger generations, particularly students and pupils, demonstrate significantly lower levels of comprehension and use of traditional culinary lexicons than the general community, revealing a clear lexical gap. From a socio-economic perspective, the continued consumption of traditional foods contributes to local economic resilience by using locally sourced ingredients. Ecologically, these practices promote waste reduction, environmental preservation, and biodiversity conservation, while simultaneously supporting linguistic and cultural sustainability. Overall, the study highlights the importance of ecolinguistic awareness in sustaining the vitality of traditional culinary lexicons as an integral component of cultural identity and environmental ethics.
