Abstract

Cockroaches are animals in residential areas that act as vectors of diseases, including cholera, typhus, dysentery and diarrhea, and are often found in a common public places. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) contains nicotine so that it is a type of plant that can be used as a bio-insecticide to control insects. The experiment used a pretest-posttest control group design, with 9 replications. The test material used was tobacco leaf (Nicotiana tabacum) immersion water with immersion length variations of 2, 4, and 6 days. The cockroach being used was 810 Periplaneta americana obtained from residential areas. The data obtained were analyzed using the Oneway ANOVA test, Least Square Difference (LSD) and probit analysis. The results suggested that the highest percentage of cockroach (Periplaneta americana) mortality was in the use of 6 days immersed tobacco, by 32%. The results of the statistical analysis suggested a significant difference (p-Value = 0.000) in the treatment and control groups. However, there were no significant differences between treatment groups (p-value = 0.285). While the results of the probid analysis acquire the LD50 at 2.925% concentration.Immersed Tobacco leaf (Nicotiana tabacum) can be used as an alternative to bio-insecticides in cockroach control (Periplaneta americana). Further research is necessary to obtain significant results, in terms of variations in treatment, variations in contact time, and homogeneous test materials.

Abstract

Dengue fever is transmitted every year by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Indonesia. One way to prevent this is by using repellents, such as the noni leaf extract (Morinda citrifolia L.). The objective of this study was to analyze the potential of the noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia L.) leaf extract as a repellent against Aedes aegypti. The study employed a post-test research design with only a control group, using concentrations of 12.5%, 25%, and 37.5%, and 25 mosquitoes with 6 repetitions. The technique for data collection involved counting mosquitoes that perched on hands. The study was conducted from November 2022 to May 2023. Data analysis was performed using SPSS Anova One Away Post Hoc and the power protection formula. The research on Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that perched for 6 hours showed that the noni leaf extract concentration of 37.5% had an average of 2.5 tails perched. The concentration of the noni leaf extract is 37.5%, according to the Pesticide Committee standard (1995). The average protection power for 6 hours is 90.86%. The study also suggests investigating the side effects of use and the addition of an HPMC gelling agent. However, for concentrations of 12.5% and 25%, the protective power is less than 90%. This study shows that concentrations of 37.5% are effective for repelling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Further research can be conducted using old or yellowed leaves, as well as for repelling culex and Anopheles mosquitoes.

Abstract

Feasibility of Tri N–Based PJOK Teaching Materials in a Lower-Secondary School Context in Magelang Abstract: Empirical evidence on embedding the Tri N principles—Niteni (noticing), Niroake (imitating), and Nambahi (enhancing)—into Physical Education and Health (PJOK) materials at the lower-secondary level remains limited. This research and development (R&D) study aimed to produce Tri N–integrated PJOK teaching materials for Grade 9 and to evaluate their feasibility and student responses. The study followed Borg and Gall’s ten-step model, covering needs analysis, planning, draft development, expert validation and revision, small-scale tryout and revision, large-scale tryout, refinement, and final product. Participants were Grade-9 students at SMP Negeri 1 Bandongan. Data from material and media experts and students were gathered via questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The PJOK book was successfully developed; initial expert reviews indicated high feasibility. In the small-scale tryout, the average scores for interest, content, and language reached 74.50%. After revisions, testing in the actual population showed improvements: interest 86.00%, content 87.75%, and language 89.00%, yielding a mean of 87.50%, classified as highly feasible. Practically, the book can help teachers structure observe-imitate-enhance cycles in PJOK activities. Given the single-school context, further research with broader samples and objective learning-outcome measures is recommended to examine comparative effectiveness.

Abstract

Continuous chemical dengue control can cause vector resistance and environmental pollution. Developing natural larvicides (bio-larvicides) from plant toxins like white chicory, which can poison Aedes aegypti larvae, is necessary for a sustainable alternative. This study aimed to analyze differences in active ingredients in white chicory leaves (Brassica pekinensis L) as bio-larvicide against Aedes aegypti larvae. This study was a pure experiment using a post-test-only control design using 1,225 Aedes aegypti instar III larvae with extracts of alkaloid active ingredients, flavonoids, and concentrations of 0%, 24%, 34%, and 40% with 3 times replication. Data were analyzed using a probit test, one-way ANOVA, and Post Hoc LSD. The results showed the potential of active ingredients in white chicory leaves against the death of Aedes aegypti larvae (p-value = 0.000). The average percentage of larval mortality concentration was 24%, 34%, 40%, in alkaloids was 41%, 60%, 66%, and in flavonoids was 45%, 64%, 68%. The active ingredient of white chicory leaves can kill Aedes aegypti larvae with LC50 in 29% alkaloids and 27% flavonoids.

Abstract

Avocado leaves contain various compounds that are proven to cause death in Aedes aegypti larvae. In its use has limitations, namely the nature of the extract tends to cause turbidity in water, thus inhibiting the survival of Aedes aegypti larvae. In contrast to Aedes aegypti larvae, Culex sp larvae can live and develop well in dirty water. This study aims to assess the potential of avocado (Persea americana) leaf juice as a biolarvicide of Culex sp. The treatment consisted of five groups of avocado leaf juice concentrations, namely 0% (negative control), 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Each using 20 Culex quenquefasciatus instar III larvae with replication 6 times. Mortality data of Culex sp larvae exposed to avocado leaf juice for 24 hours were analyzed using Anova test, Bonferroni test, and Probit test. The results showed that the mortality rate of larvae was 12,5%, 25%, 72,5%, and 92,5%, respectively. The Anova test showed that there was a significant difference between the concentrations of avocado leaf juice (p=0.000), the Bonferroni test showed that only the negative control (0%) and the 2.5% concentration, as well as the 2.5% and 5% concentrations, were not significantly different. The LC50 value obtained is 2.338%. It was concluded that avocado leaf juice has the potential as a biolarvicide against Culex sp.
