Abstract

Temporo Mandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) could be caused by forward head posture. Articular sound/TMJ clicking is the most often sign and symptom for TMD that could happen in human being. The presence of TMD such as TMJ clicking would cause an imbalance masticatory system. The purpose of this research is to investigate TMJ clicking effects to masticatory performance. This research was cross-sectional study with a type of epidemiology survey. Subject were children aged 12-15 years old Deutero-Malay sub-races Live in Bandung and was taken using multi-stage random sampling technique. Subject; consisted of 24 children as control group and 28 children as TMJ clicking group. Both group were then checked for masticatory performance using multiple sieve method and 20x chewing of artificial test food. Mastication performance value represented by median particle size (MPS) particle distribution (b) for each group. MPS from TMJ clicking group (3.0571,SD=0.9990) showed higher value than control group (2.28958,SD=0.66838). Statistic analysis with t-test showed that there’s a significant result in both of group (pvalue=0,0024, α = 0,05). Conclussion, temporo mandibular joint clicking subject has lower masticatory performance.

Abstract

Introduction: Composite-resin is widely used as a restorative material in dental practice on a daily basis when it comes to an aesthetic consideration. The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the light penetration capabilities of three light curing units (LCU) through layers of composite resin using a radiometer.  Method: Composites resin discs (2mm thick with 8 mm diameter) were cured out of seven different shades. Each specimen were used as a barrier, and a light source from three different LCUS was then applied through it. The radiometer was used to record the intensities of each LCU. Result: LED.C (Woodpecker™) has the lowest penetration capabilities to pass through the barrier compared to all LCU. The output intensity (mW/cm2) of all LCU has decreased gradually. ANOVA test showed that there was the significant result (p<0.01) for each specimen. Conclusion: The differences composite-resin shade could decrease the penetration capability of LCU.

Abstract

Dental enamel defects are developmental anomalies commonly found in primary and permanent teeth. One of the developmental anomalies of enamel structure is the hypomineralization of molar and incisor teeth. Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a localized autosomal recessive disease or amelogenesis imperfecta that may be associated with enamel-forming genes such as AMBN and TUFT1. The etiology of MIH can be attributed to prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal factors, such as low birth weight, antibiotic use, toxins from breastfeeding, infections during pregnancy, premature birth, birth complications, and a family history of enamel defects. This research is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used in this study is probability sampling, specifically simple random sampling in elementary school children in the urban area of Cimahi City and the rural area of West Bandung Regency.. The results of the study in the urban area of Cimahi City revealed 297 respondents, aged 8-12 years old, with a prevalence of MIH in the urban area (9.8%), indicating that 29 children experience MIH. In the rural area of West Bandung Regency, 293 respondents of elementary school children aged 8-12 years were included, showing a prevalence of MIH in the rural area (14.7%), indicating that 43 children have MIH. The research results indicate that the prevalence of MIH in rural areas is higher compared to the prevalence of MIH in urban areas, with a probability value of 0.069, which is greater than 0.05 (P>0.05). Therefore, statistically, it shows a non-significant difference in the prevalence of MIH between Cimahi City and West Bandung Regency. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v4n3.p289-300

Abstract

Management of dental medical waste is essential in preventing the spread of diseases, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the amount of medical waste in healthcare facilities, including dental practices. This study aims to determine the changes in dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours regarding the management of dental and medical waste after the COVID-19 pandemic. The research used a survey with an observational analytical approach, quantitative methods, and a cross-sectional research design. The research sample or respondents were 50 dentists practising independently in Cimahi. Data collection used questionnaire about dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours regarding managing dental and medical waste before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the Wilcoxon non-parametric test showed that the knowledge and attitudes of dentists regarding the management of dental medical waste after the COVID-19 pandemic experienced significant changes statistically (p < 0.05). However, dentists' behaviour in managing dental and medical waste did not show substantial statistical changes (p > 0.05). The study results concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic has positively impacted increasing dentists' awareness of the importance of managing medical waste. However, reinforcement is needed to maintain the good behaviour of dentists in managing dental medical waste. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v4n1.p69-80
