Abstract

There is a tendency back to nature treatment in Indonesian community because modern/synthetic medicines is expensive and have a various alarming side effects. That is why natural products medicine becomes more popular, aside from mass media promotions. Researches on natural products such as herbal medicine increases along with the desire to get phytofarmaca that can compete with modern medicines. The aims of this literature review are to discuss and provides information on pharmaceutical standardization of natural products toward phytopharmaca for developing Indonesian traditional medicine. Pharmaceutical standardization will strengthen the basic of pharmaceutical science in producing safe, efficacy, and qualify traditional medicine products. The pharmaceutical standardization consists of standardizing simplicial quality, safety, efficacy, and stable formulation of medicines for use in health services.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Super red dragon fruit contains iron, vitamin C, Vitamin B1, B2, B12, and the color pigments betasianin and carotene. Betasianin and carotene have potential as natural plaque coloring agents (disclosing solution). The safety of the disclosing solutions made of super red dragon fruit has not been proven yet. The purpose of this study was to determine the safety of disclosing solutions agents made of freeze dried super red dragon fruit, through acute toxicity tests. Methods: This research method is an experimental laboratory using animals, with 48 male and female mice each. There are four treatment groups, namely the negative group, the group giving doses of 1250 mg/kgBW, 2500 mg/kgBW, and 5000 mg/kgBW. This acute toxicity test observed mortality, weight change, behavior change, and relative organ weight in mice. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA test if (p>0.05) and Kruskal Wallis test for data (p<0.05). Results: The disclosing solution of super red dragon fruit did not cause death and toxic effects on mice, there were no significant differences in changes in body weight and behavior of mice, and there were significant differences in male organ indices including heart, lung, kidney and lymph organs. Conclusion: The administration of the disclosing solutions made of super red dragon fruit freeze dried in mice is safe and non-toxic based on acute toxicity tests.KEY WORDS: Disclosing solutions, super red dragon fruit, acute toxicity test.Uji toksisitas akut disclosing solutions buah naga super merah (Hylocereus costaricensis) freeze dry: Studi eksperimentalABSTRAKPendahuluan: Buah naga super merah memiliki kandungan zat besi, vitamin C, Vitamin B1, B2, B12, dan pigmen warna betasianin serta karoten. Betasianin dan karoten berpotensi untuk digunakan sebagai zat pewarna plak alami (disclosing solution), namun penggunaan disclosing solution buah naga super merah belum terbukti aman. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui keamanan disclosing solution alami buah naga super merah freeze dry  melalui uji toksisitas akut. Metode: Metode penelitian ini adalah laboratorium eksperimental dengan menggunakan subjek penelitian hewan coba 48 ekor mencit jantan dan betina. Terdapat empat kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok negatif, kelompok pemberian dosis 1250 mg/kgBB, 2500 mg/kgBB, dan 5000 mg/kgBB. Uji toksisitas akut ini mengamati kematian, perubahan berat badan, perubahan perilaku, dan berat organ relatif pada mencit. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji one way ANOVA apabila (p>0,05) dan uji Kruskal Wallis untuk data (p<0,05). Hasil: Disclosing solution buah naga super merah tidak menyebabkan kematian dan efek toksik pada mencit, tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada perubahan berat badan dan perilaku mencit, serta terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada indeks organ jantan meliputi organ jantung, paru, ginjal dan limfa. Simpulan: Penggunaan bahan disclosing solution buah naga super merah freeze dry pada mencit aman dan tidak toksik berdasarkan hasil uji toksisitas akut.KATA KUNCI Disclosing solutions, buah naga super merah, uji toksisitas akut.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan tentang manfaat antioksidan dari tumbuhan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya kesehatan di kalangan masyarakat Kampung Adat Cireundeu, Kota Cimahi. Metode pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan melalui kegiatan penyuluhan yang melibatkan warga kampung untuk memahami konsep antioksidan, sumber alami dari tumbuhan yang kaya akan senyawa antioksidan, serta manfaatnya bagi kesehatan tubuh. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini mencakup ceramah, demonstrasi, dan sesi tanya jawab guna meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat akan cara-cara sederhana dalam memanfaatkan tumbuhan sekitar sebagai sumber antioksidan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya mengonsumsi antioksidan dari buah, bunga, daun, batang, dan akar tumbuhan untuk menjaga kesehatan. Sebanyak 46 masyarakat Kampung Cireundeu mengisi pretes diakhiri dengan evaluasi yaitu mengisi postes untuk alat ukur sederhana mengevaluasi pemahaman masyarakat tentang tanaman antioksidan. Masyarakat yang terlibat mengikuti kegiatan dengan antusias dan berdasarkan postes menunjukkan nilai pemahaman terhadap materi yang diberikan sangat baik. Melalui pengabdian masyarakat ini, masyarakat diharapkan dapat menerapkan pengetahuan yang didapat untuk memperbaiki pola hidup sehat dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam yang tersedia di sekitarnya sebagai antioksidan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap manfaat antioksidan dari tumbuhan untuk kesehatan, sehingga diharapkan dapat berkontribusi pada peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat Kampung Adat Cireundeu, Kota Cimahi.

Abstract

Pengetahuan tentang kesehatan gigi di siswa sekolah sangat penting untuk menunjang kesehatan tubuh. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan satu upaya pencegahan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kesehatan gigi di SMA Muhammadiyah dan SMK PGRI Kota Cimahi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa SMA Muhammadiyah dan SMK PGRI mengenai kesehatan gigi. Metode pengabdian masyarakat menggunakan pemeriksaan kesehatan gigi mulut dan penyuluhan kepada 360 siswa melalui metode visual menggunakan power point dan video. Hasil pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat berupa hasil pemeriksaan kesehatan dan video materi kesehatan gigi yang diunggah di kanal youtube Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Cimahi agar bisa diputar ulang dan dilihat siswa sekolah serta masyarakat luas. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa program berjalan dengan lancar dan respon anak sekolah dan pihak sekolah sangat baik.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Incisional wound in oral mucosa is usually performed during oral surgery but can also be caused by injury. Although wounds can naturally heal, the application of medicine might help accelerate wound healing. Proving the effectiveness of natural ingredients is currently being promoted because Indonesia owns many plants that are used empirically. The use of natural substances is also supported because it is relatively easy to obtain and safe if used properly. Subang Pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr) is one of the produce of West Java that people consume and empirically use on wounds. Its fruit and core contain active ingredients that affect wound healing, such as bromelain enzyme, flavonoids, saponin, and alkaloids. This study aims to determine the effect of fruit ethanol extract gel of Subang pineapple on Wistar rats oral incisional wound observed from wound length. Methods: 25 rats were divided into five groups: baseline, negative control, positive control with 10% povidone-iodine, positive control with AloclairTM gel, and treatment group with 20% pineapple ethanol extract gel used as wound model on the buccal mucosa. The length of the incisional wound area was examined on days 0, 3, 7, and 14. Measurement of wound length was performed using a periodontal probe. Results: The mean of wound length was smaller especially on day 3 in the treatment group. Post-Hoc Mann-Whitney test (p<0.05 considered significant) showed the wound decrease with Subang pineapple extract was better than the negative control (p=0.008) and povidone-iodine group (p=0.007) but didn’t show a significant difference with the Aloclair™ gel group (p=0.0118). Conclusion:  Topical application of pineapple extract affected oral mucosa incisional wound healing and had a potential to accelerate wound closure. Further study with different concentrations and another type of wound can be suggested.Keywords: incisional wound; pineapple extract; subang pineapple; wound healing

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: The accumulation of dental plaque is a common cause of dental and oral health problems such as caries and periodontitis, therefore it is necessary to control plaque. Brushing is the most effective way to control plaque. Currently, there are various toothpastes used by the people, one of which is herbal toothpaste. One of the herbal toothpastes that has an antibacterial potential is rambutan honey toothpaste. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of rambutan honey toothpaste in reducing the dental plaque index. Methods: this research was Quasi Experimental design research with a pre-test post-test control group design. The twenty samples were divided into three treatment groups, namely the group that brushed teeth with base toothpaste, rambutan honey toothpaste, and aquadest. All samples were asked to brush their teeth using base toothpaste, rambutan honey toothpaste, and aquadest twice, after using toothpaste for one day, the plaque index was measured by the Silness and Loe method. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc Mann-Whitney tests (p<0.05). Results: There was a significant difference between the plaque index score before and after using rambutan honey toothpaste with a p value=0.005 (p≤0.05). The results also showed the effect of brushing teeth with base toothpaste, rambutan honey toothpaste, and aquadest on plaque index with a value of p=0.005 (p≤0.05). The results showed that there was no significant difference in dental plaque index between base toothpaste and rambutan honey toothpaste with a p value=0.583. Conclusion: Rambutan honey toothpaste has a potential in reducing the dental plaque index.Keywords: plaque index, rambutan honey, toothpaste

Abstract

Oxidative stress in the oral cavity, driven by an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants, can lead to lipid peroxidation, as reflected by elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in saliva. Proper oral hygiene, such as regular tooth brushing, is vital in mitigating oxidative damage. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of rambutan honey toothpaste with a color indicator on reducing oxidative stress in the oral cavity by measuring salivary MDA levels. This research was conducted using a laboratory experimental design, with saliva samples collected from students at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani. Participants were assigned to five groups: rambutan honey toothpaste with a color indicator (RHTCI), rambutan honey toothpaste without a color indicator (RHT), color-indicated toothpaste without honey (TCI), base toothpaste (BT), and distilled water (DW). The thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs) method was applied to assess MDA levels, and statistical analysis was conducted using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed a significant reduction in salivary MDA levels following the use of RHTCI (p = 0.0001). A notable difference was also found between RHTCI and TCI (p = 0.001), while no significant difference was observed between RHTCI and RHT (p = 0.190). These findings suggest that rambutan honey toothpaste with a color indicator effectively reduces salivary MDA levels, highlighting its potential antioxidant benefits.

Abstract

Latar belakang: gigi tiruan merupakan protesa yang digunakan untuk menggantikan gigi yang hilang. Resin akrilik yang sering dipakai sebagai basis gigi tiruan adalah resin akrilik heat cured. Candida albicans merupakan salah satu mikroorganisme dalam pembentukan plak pada gigi ataupun basis gigi tiruan resin akrilik Bahan pembersih gigi pada umumnya berasal dari bahan kimia dan alami. Bahan alam yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah madu rambutan. Madu merupakan bahan alam yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional. Tujuan: mengetahui potensi madu rambutan sebagai pembersih gigi tiruan resin akrilik dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans. Metode: eksperimental laboratorium. Sampel terbuat dari resin akrilik polimerisasi panas dengan ukuran 10x10x1 mm sebanyak 24 buah yang dibagi atas 6 kelompok (madu rambutan konsentrasi 20%, 40%,60%, 80%, kelompok kontrol positif klorheksidin, dan kelompok kontrol negatif akuabides) dengan masing-masing 4 buah sampel. Data dianalisis dengan Kruskall Wallis dan Mann Whitney (p0,05). Hasil: menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh madu rambutan dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans pada resin akrilik(p=0,002) dengan konsentrasi 80%. Kesimpulan: madu rambutan berpotensi sebagai pembersih gigi tiruan resin akrilik karena dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Averrhoa bilimbi L, known for its oxalic acid and peroxide content, may serve as a natural alternative to synthetic whitening agents Synthetic teeth-whitening agents, such as carbamide peroxide, are effective but often cause adverse effects like enamel demineralization and sensitivity. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of 50% Averrhoa bilimbi L gel on enamel hardness and compare it with a synthetic whitening agent and a negative control.  Methods:  This experimental laboratory study utilized 36 teeth from 18 New Zealand rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), Averrhoa bilimbi L extract was obtained via maceration with 96% ethanol and formulated into a gel. Eighteen New Zealand rabbits (36 teeth) were divided into three groups: negative control, carbamide peroxide (10%), and 50% Averrhoa bilimbi gel. Each group underwent a 4-hour daily treatment for 14 days, following which enamel hardness was evaluated using the Vickers hardness test. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (p<0.05). Results: There were no significant differences in enamel hardness among the three groups (p=0.4240), indicating that Averrhoa bilimbi L gel had comparable effects on enamel hardness to carbamide peroxide and the negative control. Conclusions: 50% Averrhoa bilimbi L gel is a safe natural alternative for teeth whitening, as it does not significantly impact enamel hardness. Metode: Studi laboratorium eksperimental ini menggunakan 36 gigi dari 18 kelinci New Zealand (Oryctolagus cuniculus), ekstrak Averrhoa bilimbi L diperoleh melalui maserasi dengan etanol 96% dan diformulasikan menjadi gel. Delapan belas kelinci New Zealand (36 gigi) dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok: kontrol negatif, carbamide peroksida (10%), dan gel Averrhoa bilimbi 50%. Setiap kelompok menjalani perlakuan harian selama 4 jam selama 14 hari, setelah itu kekerasan email dievaluasi menggunakan uji kekerasan Vickers. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA (p<0,05). Hasil: tidak ada perbedaan signifikan dalam kekerasan enamel gigi di antara ketiga kelompok (p = 0,4240), yang menunjukkan bahwa gel Averrhoa bilimbi memiliki efek yang sebanding dengan karbamid peroksida dan kontrol negatif. Simpulan: Gel Averrhoa bilimbi dengan konsentrasi 50% merupakan alternatif alami yang aman untuk pemutih gigi, karena tidak memengaruhi kekerasan enamel secara signifikan. Penelitian lebih lanjut disarankan untuk mengeksplorasi efeknya pada jaringan lunak dan keseluruhan keamanan gigi.KATA KUNCI: averrhoa bilimbi, kekerasan, pemutih
