Abstract

Bonggol jagung sebagai limbah organik belum banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai pakan ternak karena kandungan seratnya yang tinggi. Fermentasi adalah salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan kualitas bonggol jagung untuk pakan ternak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pakan yang berbahan dasar bonggol jagung dalam peningkatan bobot badan ayam broiler. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dan data yang dihasilkan selanjutnya dianalisis dengan ANOVA (Analysis of Varian). Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan 4 tahapan, yaitu tahap persiapan sampel, pembuatan pakan, pengaplikasian pakan dan pengamatan bobot badan ayam broiler. Rata-rata pengamatan bobot badan ayam broiler minggu 0 pada P0, P1, P2 dan P3 berturut-turut adalah 35.06 g/ekor, 36.08 g/ekor, 36.34 g/ekor dan 36.08 g/ekor. Pada minggu 1, rata rata bobot badan ayam broiler pada P0, P1, P2 da P3 adalah 120.0 g/ekor, 113.4 g/ekor, 117 g/ekor dan 111.6 g/ekor. Sedangkan pada minggu 2, rata-rata bobot badan ayam broiler pada P0, P1, P2 dan P3 adalah 291.3 gr/ekor, 298.3 g/ekor, 286.0 g/ekor dan 290.7 g/ekor. Kombinasi pakan yang digunakan terdiri dari 3 kombinasi yaitu P1 (30 g bonggol jagung + 50 g dedak + 20 g susu bubuk afkir), P2 (40 g bonggol jagung + 40 g dedak + 20 g susu bubuk afkir) dan P3 (50 g bonggol jagung + 30 g dedak + 20 g susu bubuk afkir). Hasil analisis sidik ragam menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pakan berbahan dasar bonggol jagung tidak berbeda nyata (P>0.05) dengan nilai Fhit (0.64; 0.59; dan 0.11) lebih kecil dibandingkan Ftab 0.05 (3.24) di setiap perlakuan karena konsumsi pakan tidak memenuhi kebutuhan makanan ayam broiler yang membutuhkan banyak protein.

Abstract

Medical plants are defined as types of plants where some or all parts of the plants are used as medicine which is believed to cure a disease. This study aims to determine the types of plants that have the potential as medicine and their use by the people of Bandar Setia Village, Percut Sei Tuan District. This type of research is descriptive qualitative and quantitative research. Data analysis in this study used descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that there are 46 plant species that have the potential as medicine in Bandar Setia Village which are grouped into 25 families. Parts of plants that are used include leaves 42%, fruit 27%, rhizome 15%, roots 4%, flowers 4%, seeds 4% and tubers 4%. Obtaining plants that have the potential to be used as medicine in Bandar Setia Village by wild 47%. Plant processing method by boiling 28,26%. Use of plants as medicine 56,52%, health 43,47%.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between gender and allergy scores in children aged 0-12 years with allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis. The research utilized secondary data obtained from patient medical records, comprising 32 samples with 18 males and 14 females. Data were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test to evaluate the relationship between two variables: gender (binomial data) and allergy score (ordinal, interval, or ratio scale). Results indicated that U₁ was 112 and U₂ was 140. According to the Mann-Whitney critical value table with n₁=14 and U₂=18 at a 95% confidence level, the critical value was 74. Since the lowest U value (U₁ = 112) is greater than the critical value (74), H₁ is accepted and H₀ is rejected. Therefore, there is a relationship between gender and allergy scores in children aged 0-12 years with allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis at RSIA Stella Maris, Medan. However, the statistical analysis suggests that this relationship is weak.

Abstract

Microbial contamination in vegetables often originates from spraying or irrigation with contaminated water. Fertilization using animal manure can also lead to contamination, with bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli found in vegetables like lettuce. Samples were collected once from each traditional market, repeatedly taken from roadside stalls, inside the market, or from kiosks. Macroscopic colony characteristics on EMBA (Eosin Methylene Blue Agar) and SSA (Salmonella-Shigella Agar) media were observed after incubation, including colony shape, color, structure, and growth size or diameter. EMBA media cultures of E. coli on five vegetable samples from Pasar Melati, Pasar Sei Sikambing, and Pasar Kampung Lalang showed contamination in all five samples. SSA media cultures of Salmonella sp. on five vegetable samples from these markets revealed contamination in one sample. Gram staining of all samples identified Gram-negative bacteria, appearing red in color.

Abstract

Indonesia is known as a country that has very abundant biodiversity, one of which is moss. Mosses are non-vascular plants, small in size, and play a crucial role in forest ecosystems as pioneer plants, water reservoirs, erosionreducers, bioindicators, andmedicinal resources. Theresearchaims tocollect data and information regarding liverwort species in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, specifically focusing on sampling points along rivers and waterfalls as potential habitats for liverwort life. Thalloid liverwort sampling was conducted using an exploratory survey method, which involved exploring along the courseof rivers and waterfalls. The research findings revealed 6 species of liverworts, consisting of 3 genera and classified into 2 families: Marchantiaceae (Marchantia with 4 species, Dumortiera with 1 species) and Metzgeriaceae (Metzgeria with 1 species). Commonly found species at the location include Dumortiera hirsuta, Marchantia paleacea, and Metzgeria, while the least encountered species are Marchantia treubii, Marchantia pinnata, and Marchantia emarginata.

Abstract

Medicinal plants have long been used in traditional medicine as part of healing and disease prevention practices. The Malay ethnic group possesses inherited ethnobotanical knowledge regarding the use of medicinal plants. This study aims to identify the types of plants used as medicine and their applications by the Malay community in Bagan Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. A qualitative and quantitative descriptive approach was employed through interviews with 50 respondents and 10 key informants possessing local knowledge of medicinal plants. The results revealed 65 medicinal plant species belonging to 35 sukues, with the dominant ones being Zingiberaceae (6 species), Solanaceae (5 species), and Fabaceae (5 species). The most frequently used plant parts were leaves (46%), fruits (28%), and rhizomes (9%). The most common method of preparation was boiling (29%), while the most common mode of use was oral consumption (48%). Herbaceous plants constituted the most utilized growth form (31%). The purposes of plant utilization included treatment (61.53%), care (24.6%), and general health improvement (13.8%). This study highlights the importance of preserving traditional ethnobotanical knowledge among the Malay community.

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) merupakan minyak yang diperoleh dari ekstraksi kelapa segar dan diproses dengan berbagai cara, termasuk metode produksi tradisional di rumah. Tujuan pembuatan VCO dan pliek-u yaitu untuk memberikan informasi tentang pemanfaatan produk kelapa berupa santan yang dapat diolah kembali menjadi minyak VCO, dan ampas minyaknya digunakan sebagai pliek-u sebagai makanan tradisional. VCO memiliki nilai jual yang tinggi dan berkhasiat obat. Pliek-u terbuat dari ampas kering sisa minyak kelapa tua. Kedua produk ini dibuat dengan mitra melalui praktik langsung. Hasil yang diperoleh dari pembuatan VCO adalah memiliki sifat fisik yang baik yaitu bening seperti air, memiliki aroma yang harum dan rasa yang dapat diterima, serta bebas dari bau tidak sedap. Pliek-u merupakan alternatif pengganti buah kelapa dan makanan tradisional yang harus dilestarikan. Pliek-u biasanya ditambahkan sebagai bumbu masakan kari, sehingga memberikan rasa yang unik dan otentik. Hasil uji organoleptik pliek-u yaitu warnanya coklat, rasanya asam dan aromanya tidak berbau.
