Abstract

Aims: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a critical global health issue, characterized by significant morbidity and mortality rates. Recent research highlights the potential of social support interventions to enhance TB treatment outcomes and improve patient quality of life. This study examines the positive effects of social support interventions on TB patients throughout their treatment process. Method: Utilizing a traditional review approach, this study applies thematic analysis to synthesize findings from the literature. The review encompasses 17 articles selected from reputable databases, including PubMed, Wiley Online Library, ProQuest, and Google Scholar, based on predefined inclusion criteria. These articles underwent quality assessment using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool. The PRISMA flowchart provided transparency in the selection process. Results: Key themes identified through the analysis include treatment adherence, psychological well-being, motivation to recover, health-related quality of life, prevention of TB transmission, successful TB treatment, and self-efficacy to recover. Conclusion: The findings suggest that social support interventions can play a crucial role in addressing the persistent challenges of TB management globally.

The role of health cadres is crucial in addressing anemia in pregnant women.Purpose: To evaluate the influence of community support interventions on the knowledge and self-efficacy of health cadres in managing anemia in pregnant women in the Thousand Islands region, Indonesia.Method: The research design is quasi-experimental with a single intervention group. A total of 30 health cadres on Kelapa Island and Harapan Island received community support interventions for managing anemia in pregnant women. Assessments of knowledge and self-efficacy were conducted before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using paired sample t-tests.Results: Indicate that community support interventions significantly improved the knowledge of health cadres about anemia in pregnant women (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the self-efficacy of health cadres also experienced a significant increase after the intervention (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Community support interventions effectively enhance health cadres' knowledge and self-efficacy in managing anemia in pregnant women in the Thousand Islands region. This study has implications for improving the quality of health services and the management of anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

The global shortage of healthcare professionals has intensified efforts to train more Community Health Workers (CHWs) to meet health and developmental needs. Amidst a global health crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic tragedy that occurred several years ago, CHWs have played a crucial role in controlling community-based outbreaks, thereby strengthening the public health emergency response while facing numerous challenges. This study explores the motivations and challenges CHWs face in managing health crises. Employing a descriptive phenomenological approach, this study conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with 13 CHWs in Makassar City, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis via the Colaizzi method. Thematic analysis revealed three main themes and seven sub-themes, encapsulating factors of social needs and expanded health perspectives as motivational elements alongside challenges such as the prevailing negative paradigm regarding the health crisis. CHWs are instrumental in spearheading community-based activities to manage health crises. CHW training programs, facilitated by community nurses, can significantly improve their performance and impact within the community.
