Abstract

Understanding the polemic of wayang in da'wah, which is being discussed in the digital space, has shown how religious authority is contested. Differences in understanding, group background, culture, interests, and ideology have made the dynamics of the contestation more complex. This article discusses the factors that influence the polemic about the use of wayang in da'wah in the digital space and complements the shortcomings of previous studies. This qualitative research uses the content analysis method on online media data and Twitter for one month. The results of this study indicate that the contestation occurs not only in the gripping and traditional authorities but also in the new authorities who are present amid polemics. The media is part of an authority that has its logic, where media users are free to produce and market ideas in the digital space. This condition becomes a new problem that can undermine traditional authority's power and make the world of da'wah a religious contestation arena.

Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to examine the main issue that provoke social movement of fishermen in West Sumatra, to identify the related actors, and to analyze the advocacy strategy carried out by fishermen. This research was conducted in July 2019 and took place in two locations, namely the City of Padang and West Pasaman Regency. The study used qualitative approach. From this study, it is revealed that the main issue that provoke social movements in West Sumatra was the issue of Regulation No. 71 of 2016 by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries related to the prohibition of certain fishing gear. This regulation prohibits the use of 4 mm mesh size of the net and the use of lamps in operating the liftnet which reaches up to 25-30 thousand watts of power. This regulation has created a huge burden to fisherman’s work. The Other issue that is also triggering the movement was the arrestment of 6 fishing boats on June 11, 2016. Meanwhile, the main actors who are directly related to this movement are fishermen who are using liftnet (bagan). These actors can be divided into two main categories, namely movers and "participants". The main tactic used in social movements was demonstration.

Abstract

Presidental Degree No. 95 of 1995 in the era of President Soeharto was a fundamental basis in reclamation planning. The reason for the reclamation is to develop the Pantura area as an economic area and land expansion in Jakarta. However, this policy was opposed by many groups, one of which was the Ministry of the Environment by issuing the results of the 2003 Environmental Impact Study which stated that reclamation was not feasible to be continued. In addition, the reclamation plan had the potential to harm 17,000 fishermen who lived in the Jakarta bay reclamation development area; they felt the impact socially, economically and environmentally. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the reclamation rejection movement in the digital age. The paradigm of this research is constructivism, with qualitative and quantitative method approaches. Data retrieval on social media was carried out in Python 3 and Drone Emprit Academic to obtain SNA results and conversation trends and the distribution of issue locations on Twitter. This research was conducted in the Kaliadem and Kalibaru Fishermen Village, North Jakarta, involving 50 respondents and 5 informants. The result showed that social media has an effective role in encouraging the sensitivity of public attitudes in the movement. This is evidenced by the expansion of the message to reject reclamation in various regions, and it can encourage policy changes. Abstract

This research is prompted by the reality that despite significant growth in Indonesia's tourism sector, the utilization of natural resources, especially in coastal areas, is still not fully optimized and is susceptible to corporate control, which can displace local communities. This situation is further complicated by issues of unequal access and power dynamics that hinder fair ecotourism management. The study's primary goal is to identify stakeholders and analyze the function of participatory communication in managing the Ketapang Urban Aquaculture (KUA) ecotourism site to ensure equitable access. Adopting a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative methodology, data was collected through a combination of in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and direct field observations. The findings reveal that, while the KUA project has been successful in terms of physical development, significant gaps remain at the community level, including the absence of structured community development programs and a low level of environmental awareness. Participatory communication serves as a crucial tool for bridging the diverse interests of various parties and boosting community involvement, which has been shown to mitigate conflict and strengthen solidarity among stakeholders. Consequently, this research advocates for a more inclusive communication approach to enhance sustainable ecotourism management.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in comparative research on the agricultural rutawt tradition as an integrated model for national food security within Indonesia's ethnic diversity. The objective of this study is to analyze the symbolic communication and value negotiation of Ruwat Pertanian across three communities: Kasepuhan Ciptagelar, located in West Java, Kasepuhan Cicarucub in Banten, and Adirasa in Central Java. A qualitative comparative-ethnographic approach was employed to collect data through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and direct observations. The results identify three distinct models of cultural resilience: the Conservative Model in Ciptagelar, which strictly preserves ecological authority to maintain food sovereignty; the Integrative Model in Cicarucub, which harmonizes ancestral customs with Islamic values; and the Pragmatic Model in Adirasa, which rationalizes rituals for economic utility. Despite these variations, Ruwat functions as an ecological rite of passage that serves to legitimize spiritual authority and sustainable cultivation norms. These findings offer critical policy implications, suggesting that integrating these diverse local wisdom typologies specifically the leuit system and syncretic practices into national strategies is essential for achieving food sovereignty and religious moderation
