Abstract

Our bodies tell God’s story. The Church regards the human body as sacred, intended for ultimate union with God, and anticipates it to be treated as a temple. The narrative suggests that we ought to regard our bodies with reverence and integrity, while anticipating their eventual resurrection. This appears to be a triumphalist perspective regarding the church's stance on the body. This theological conception has significantly influenced Church members in their pursuit of complete holiness throughout their lives, yet it has also resulted in serious repercussions, specifically subtle dualism and the issue of bodily imperfection. The Church's emphasis on the unity of body and soul, alongside the concept of the soul's immortality, generates a tension regarding the precedence of the soul's salvation over the body's welfare. This results in a disjunction between the ideal church and the actual church, leading to diminished attention towards non-triumphalistic groups, specifically individuals with disabilities. The corporeal form that narrates God's story is also the anthropological entity. The intersection of theology and anthropology in spirituality necessitates a discussion on both the sacramental essence of the body and the theological design for the body, culminating in the same conclusion: the body as a symbol of salvation rather than condemnation. This paper presents novel theological concepts that advocate for the marginalized, specifically individuals with disabilities. This paper aims to demonstrate that God's plan of salvation for His people, as articulated in the Nicene Creed and informed by John Paul II's theology of the body, is applicable both communally and personally, particularly concerning individuals with disabilities. In the end, we can hope a kind of inclusive theology to all people especially those with disability.

Abstract

The main issue that is the focus of this study is what is the essence of the liturgy in the Catholic Church and how the Ars Celebrandi liturgy is in the perspective of Pope Benedict XVI. Therefore, this study wants to explore two important things, namely how a Catholic personally and communally understands the liturgy and how it was initiated by Pope Benedict through the theme of Ars Celebrandi. This research uses library research, which is supported by reference sources, especially Church documents and studies on the theme of liturgy and the Eucharist. Data and information are processed by researchers by sorting and examining the main ideas and classifying them in special themes according to the research objectives. This study found that Ars Celebrandi is the art of celebrating liturgical celebrations appropriately and can help the faithful to internalize all the mysteries of the faith that are celebrated in the liturgical celebration system so that in the end all the faithful can participate in the entire celebration of faith. Therefore, all liturgical leaders need to celebrate the liturgy according to the rules of the liturgy itself without having to improvise and be creative according to personal interpretation. Ars Celebrandi is closely related to the meaning of the mystery of faith, namely the encounter with God present in the liturgical celebration. Ars Celebrandi does not stop at the issue of how the liturgical celebration becomes a stunning display. However, Ars Celebrandi is more about the appreciation of the mystery of faith in oneness with God that is present in the liturgical celebration. This study is expected to add to the scientific treasures in the field of Catholic theology, especially those related to the meaning and significance of beauty in the liturgy of the Eucharist.

Abstract

Dalihan Natolu is the basic philosophy of life for the Toba Batak tribe which is contained in three elements, namely respect, veneration and support. This unity cannot be separated from the life of the Toba Batak tribe. Dalihan Natolu's kinship system, namely somba marhula-hula (respect to uncle's family), manat mardongan tubu (being careful to siblings), and elek marboru (graciousness to our sisters), is a communal foundation that is closely related to each other. Each component in Dalihan Natolu is implemented according to their respective positions and roles. The values that exist in Dalihan Natolu have a correlation with the Catholic faith, namely theological virtues (faith, hope, and love) and cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance).Theological and cardinal virtues are virtues that animate everyone to live Christian morals. Likewise, with the Dalihan Natolu values it can be understood that Christian morals are not just law implementation, but a response to God's call. Everyone's way and pattern of life must be adapted with the teachings of God. Thus, every person from any culture is able to reach the ultimate goal offered by God which is genuine happiness

Abstract

The writing of this thesis begins with the emergence of the author’s awarenes of the importance of understanding spirits of the Toba Batak culture in harmony with Catholic Theology. The meaning of spirit in Toba Batak culture is often understood both among the Toba Batak people and from other tribes, as a custom of idol worship. Chatolic Theology confirms that the spirit is a divine power that work in every creation, transport in all living things and is active in humans, specifically the Holy Spirit that is bestowed by God in every human being. The existence of the Holy Spirit in human being is a gift fom God himself to support human being to life. The religion and cultural customs are not two things that go in contradictory directions, but they are two features that strengthen each other. The culture is inherent in human existence from birt, and the religion is a way for human being to identify the faith in Jesus Christ himseft. A human being who is cultured and trough the help of the Holy Spirit will be able to experience oneness with God. Thus, the Religion and culture are two characteristics that lead human beings to the equal goal, namely human self-improvement.

Abstract

Abstract: Humans are the image of God and have the dignity of life as a special gift from God. In this regard, it must be noted that gender differences as men or women, normal physical conditions or as people with disabilities are never a measure of human dignity. Women with disabilities have the right to live and be loved like other human beings. Discrimination and various acts of injustice against women with disabilities are a moral issue that threatens the value of equal human dignity. This research aims to call for the need to realize Catholic theology of compassion, especially for women with disabilities. Women with disabilities are often ignored in various groups such as families, local communities, and in religious/religious circles. To overcome these problems and collect data and analyze problems comprehensively, this research uses case studies and qualitative methods through literature studies. Thus, the problem is studied through quantitative and qualitative approaches. First, I will explain that women with disabilities experience marginalization in general society; second, I will outline the idea of Catholic theology of mercy; Third, build a theological reflection and show the possible direction of pastoral theology. Through this research, the author hopes to be able to tell the concrete experiences of women with disabilities in relation to Catholic theology of compassion. In this way, it is hoped that there will be a joint movement that will increasingly promote peace, love, justice and prosperity. Keywords: human dignity; women with disabilities; mercy; discrimination

Abstract

This paper is based on the author's concern over the increasingly rampant events of human dignity decline. More of people are less aware of the nobility of their dignity as Imago Dei. The purpose of this writing is to make each individual aware himself as an individual who is able to respect and fight for their own dignity and the others, while also stopping damaging their own dignity and the dignity of others. The method used is a literature review. The author collects, reads, and understands various relevant sources and compiles them into a scientific paper. The results of this research illustrate that humans have a very noble dignity based on their identity as Imago Dei. Humans are bestowed by God with various privileges, such as mind, consciousness, and free will. Therefore, God entrusts humans as His co-workers in the work of creation, and God even gives them the mandate to maintain and guard other creations. Based on their existence, humans live in a trilogy of relationships, namely relationships with God, others, and the universe. Because humans, by their nature, humans are social beings and are the pinnacle of all of God's creations, everyone must respect their own dignity and that of other humans. Humans should live in an atmosphere of universal brotherhood, tolerance, dialogue and peace with each other and the universe.

Abstract

This study is based on the conviction that love for one’s homeland is an integral part of Christian faith, which must be lived out concretely in national and social life. The Catholic Church in Indonesia affirms that patriotism is not merely a moral or political attitude, but an expression of faith manifested through prayer, symbols, and songs within the celebration of the Eucharist. The purpose of this study is to explore how the value of love for the homeland is embodied and expressed liturgically as a contextual form of Catholic faith. This research employed a library research method by examining official Church documents as well as relevant theological and pastoral literature. The analysis was carried out through a descriptive-theological approach that integrates conceptual and contextual perspectives. The findings reveal that love for the homeland in the Eucharistic celebration is manifested through thanksgiving prayers for the nation, the inculturation of national symbols, and the use of patriotic hymns as expressions of faith and gratitude. The Eucharist serves as a sacred meeting point between faith and nationhood, forming believers to be faithful Catholics and true citizens. The study implies that liturgical inculturation plays a vital role as a medium of faith formation and national character building within the Indonesian Catholic Church.

Abstract

Hope is one of the theological virtues strongly emphasized by Pope Francis, especially in the context of a world marked by suffering, crisis, and uncertainty. This article aims to present the Christian theological understanding of hope according to Pope Francis and to explore its relevance for the Church as it prepares for the Jubilee Year 2025. This study employs a documentary and textual theological analysis of Pope Francis’ catecheses, Sacred Scripture, official Church teachings, and the Jubilee documents. The findings show that Christian hope is rooted in the experience of God who accompanies, liberates, and consoles His people, and is grounded in the Paschal Mystery and the resurrection of Christ. Pope Francis deepens this vision through the figures of Sacred Scripture and through existential dynamics such as learning to hope, resisting despair, and remaining vigilant. Hope is both personal and ecclesial, as the Church is called to be a missionary of hope for the world. These insights highlight the importance of ongoing formation in the faith and concrete works of mercy as expressions of hope, especially as the Church enters the Jubilee Year 2025 as Pilgrims of Hope.
