Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the work framework of the Sharia Supervisor and the reporting of the results of the supervision of the Sharia Supervisory Board at the Insan Madani Amil Zakat Institution and BAZNAZ Jambi City. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods, with a field research approach. It was found that the work framwork of the Shari'ah Supervisor both at the Insan Madani Amil Zakat Institution and BAZNAZ Jambi City is to supervise the operational activities of the Amil Zakat Institution to comply with the provisions and principles of sharia. The difference lies in reporting the results of the supervision of the Shari'ah Supervisor where the Insan Madani Amil Zakat Institution reports the results to the Jambi Provincial BAZNAZ and then the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Jambi Province periodically. Unlike the case with BAZNAZ Jambi City which reports the results of its supervision to the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion, the Mayor, and the Governor.

Abstract

Purpose – This study explores how service quality and Sharia governance directly influence customer loyalty in Islamic banking. It moves beyond procedural interpretations of Sharia compliance by examining how operational performance and institutional religiosity jointly shape long-term customer commitments.Methodology – An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed. In the quantitative phase, data were collected from 213 customers of the Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling, in which two of the three existing BSI branches were randomly chosen, and all customers from the selected branches participated as respondents. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The qualitative phase followed an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) involving in-depth interviews with four long-term loyal customers to uncover the emotional, spiritual, and value-based dimensions underpinning their loyalty.Findings – Both service quality and Sharia governance significantly and directly affect customer loyalty, with Sharia governance exerting a stronger influence. The qualitative findings revealed four key loyalty-building patterns: spiritualized service experience, trust in Sharia supervisory structures, emotional connection with Islamic digital platforms, and personalized service grounded in ethics.Implications – For Islamic banks, fostering loyalty requires more than efficient service delivery and demands visible Sharia credibility and alignment with customers’ religious values and expectations.Originality – Departing from previous studies that examined operational or governance factors in isolation, this study integrates service quality and Sharia governance as parallel, mutually reinforcing drivers of customer loyalty. The developed loyalty framework captures the multidimensional interplay between faith, ethical congruence, and service experience in Muslim-majority banking context.

The Islamic bank announces its willingness, to accept the funds of invesment account holders, the sharing of profits being as agreed between the two parties, and the loss being borne by the owner of funds, unless they were due to misconduct, negligence or violation of the conditions agreed upon by the Islamic bank. A Mudhâraba contract may also be concluded between the Islamic bank, as a provider of capital on behalf of itself on behalf of invesment account holders, and bussiness owner.

Abstract

Productive waqf management has strong potential to strengthen Islamic social finance and promote regional economic development. However, its implementation remains inefficient, particularly in Jambi, Indonesia. This study examines the key challenges in productive waqf management and proposes strategic solutions to enhance its effectiveness. The Analytic Network Process (ANP) was applied to prioritize challenges and strategies based on expert judgment and interdependent relationships. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with experts, a focus group discussion, and pairwise-comparison questionnaires. The results indicate that key obstacles include limited managerial capacity at nāẓir, weak institutional governance, particularly the suboptimal role of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) in Jambi, and insufficient government support. The study proposes strategic measures, such as targeted capacity-building for nāẓir, institutional reform, financing integration, and regulatory strengthening to enhance the sustainability of productive waqf governance. Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of green banking practices and environmental responsibility on the sustainable performance of Islamic banks, as well as to investigate the mediating role of environmental innovation in these relationships. The study is motivated by the growing global demand for sustainable financial practices, while empirical evidence explaining how environmental innovation enhances the sustainability performance of Islamic banking remains limited, particularly in regional contexts. A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The sampling procedure applied cluster random sampling. Of the three Islamic bank branches operating in Jambi City, two branches were randomly selected as research clusters. Survey data were collected from customers of the selected branches, resulting in 300 valid respondents, which meets the recommended sample size for SEM analysis. The study examines four key constructs: green banking, environmental responsibility, environmental innovation, and sustainable performance of Islamic banks. The findings reveal that green banking practices and environmental responsibility have a positive and significant effect on the sustainable performance of Islamic banks. Furthermore, environmental innovation plays a significant mediating role, strengthening the impact of green banking and environmental responsibility on sustainable performance. These results indicate that sustainable performance in Islamic banking is not only driven by environmental commitment but also by the bank’s ability to continuously develop and implement environmental innovations.
