Abstract

Claimed by some to be a successful policy tool to connect education with the industrial world, a body of research has documented issues on adapting and adopting the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), a worldwide policy phenomenon. However, there are fewer studies on implementing this framework in initial teacher education (ITE). Therefore, to fill this gap, this paper explores and contextualises the enactment of NQF within the ITE sector from a curriculum ergonomics perspective, a novice concept of analysis on the interactions between curriculum design and its use. This paper contributes to the existing research on curriculum studies, especially in the ITE sector. Implications and recommendations are also discussed.

Abstract

This study explores the development of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) among pre-service teachers engaged in micro-teaching sessions in Indonesia. Using quantitative methods, data were collected from 150 pre-service teachers through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 26. The results showed that micro-teaching positively contributed to TPACK development, with significant technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge improvements. The findings confirm the effectiveness of micro-teaching in strengthening TPACK and emphasize the importance of integrating technology-based experiences in teacher education programs. This study provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers aiming to improve pre-service teacher training through practical, technology-supported teaching approaches.

Abstract

The Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework has emerged as a central framework for technology integration in English language education. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of the research literature on TPACK in English language education (ELT) to examine publication trends, citation patterns, thematic clusters, and collaboration networks. The findings demonstrate steady interest in research, with intense acceleration during the digital shift precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the developing themes identified are teacher education, e-learning integration, and subject-area-specific applications. The research identifies both the benefits and challenges of TPACK implementation, demanding large-scale instructor training and organizational support. Longitudinal studies and the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality in TPACK-based teaching approaches should be the subject of future studies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the causes of students' difficulties in speaking English. This research uses descriptive quantitative method. In collecting data, the researcher used a closed questionnaire and also a Liker scale to determine the factors that cause students' difficulties in speaking. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 30 students of class XI IPS. The results of this study indicate that the inhibiting factors, having nothing to say, the lack of participants and the use of the mother tongue can be a source of student difficulties. From these four aspects, the results showed that 72.40% of students experienced inhibition, 60% could nothing to say, 60.93% low participations and 64.4% used their mother tongue. It can be concluded that of the four factors there is one factor that shows high presentation value, namely the obstacle where most students have obstacles in speaking English so they find it difficult to speak.

Abstract

This study delves into the exploration of EFL pre-service teachers' perceptions of teacher autonomy during field teaching practice, drawing on reflective insights from ten participants in the English Education Department. The qualitative investigation centers on the multifaceted concept of teacher autonomy, encompassing dimensions like professional development, freedom from external control in teaching, and the capacity for self-directed instructional approaches. Employing a thematic analysis method, the research underscores a prevalent positive inclination among pre-service teachers toward the application of teacher autonomy. Key themes identified include the influence of the public sphere, the pedagogical creative teaching process, organizational dynamics, proficiency in content curriculum knowledge, insights from students' reflections, and the promotion of learner autonomy. The study emphasizes implications for teacher educators and institutions, stressing the significance of the long-term development of pre-service teachers for the sustained success of educational programs. It advocates for a robust understanding of teacher autonomy among pre-service teachers and the provision of ongoing support to maintain motivation and efforts in exercising autonomy. While offering valuable insights, the study acknowledges limitations, notably the reliance on qualitative data from reflective accounts, necessitating caution in generalizing findings. This would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the nuanced relationship between teacher autonomy and professional development among pre-service teachers.
