Abstract

Vocabulary is a basic skill that must be mastered in learning and mastering English. Vocabulary will relate to four skills in English, namely reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Vocabulary has several types, one of which is a noun. This research will focus on describing an analysis of student vocabulary in finding noun through descriptive text at SDN 013 laboy jaya bangkinang in the 2022/2023 academic year. This study aims to determine the student's English vocabulary in finding nouns through descriptive text. Researchers chose class iv SDN 013 laboy jaya bangkinang as many as 24 students as samples in this study. In this study, researchers used tests, observations and documentation in collecting data. Based on the research findings, the researcher found that the test results for the students were good. As many as 10 students get very good score criteria, 3 students get good score criteria, 6 students get enough, and 5 students get low score criteria in the test. The range of scores shows that the average student test score is 70. The criteria for this score are taken from (arikunto, 2009) where a score of 70-79 indicates good or well.

Abstract

This research investigates how digital tools and resources are integrated into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education to enhance learning outcomes. The study employs qualitative through interviews, questionnaires, and classroom observations. Interviews with 6 lecturers and 74 students as the samples provide in-depth insights into their experiences and perceptions. Classroom observations offer real-time evidence of how technology is used in practice, highlighting both its benefits and obstacles. Data is analyzed using thematic analysis for qualitative, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the role of technology in EFL learning at the English Language Learning and Education Study Program of University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai during February to June 2024. The results show that the use of technology has been positively perceived by both students and lecturers, who recognize the ability to make learning more accessible, interactive, and tailored to individual needs. The widespread use of tools such as language learning apps, online resources, and multimedia presentations has contributed to more effective and enjoyable learning experiences. Despite these benefits, the research also identified significant challenges, including technical issues, inconsistent access to devices, and varying levels of digital literacy among students. These challenges sometimes hinder the seamless integration of technology into EFL learning. The technology has greatly contributed to the success of EFL learning at Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai, addressing the challenges identified will be crucial for maximizing its potential. By investing in better support systems, infrastructure, and training, the university can further enhance the effectiveness of technology in fostering English language proficiency among its students.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru bahasa Inggris di SD, SMP, dan SMA yang berlokasi di sekitar Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dalam memanfaatkan teknologi untuk pembelajaran yang lebih efektif. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan bagi 27 guru Bahasa Inggris yang fokus pada pengenalan dan penggunaan aplikasi pembelajaran seperti Quizlet dan Kahoot! yang dirancang untuk membuat proses belajar mengajar lebih interaktif dan menarik. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berhasil memberdayakan guru bahasa Inggris tersebut dengan keterampilan teknologi yang diperlukan untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang lebih interaktif dan efektif, meskipun menghadapi beberapa tantangan yang berhasil diatasi melalui berbagai solusi yang diterapkan. Beberapa kendala, termasuk keterbatasan akses teknologi, variasi keterampilan digital peserta, keterbatasan waktu, dan kurangnya dukungan berkelanjutan, berbagai solusi telah diterapkan untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Fasilitas teknologi disediakan, pelatihan dirancang fleksibel, dan dukungan berkelanjutan melalui platform online WhatsApp group disediakan untuk membantu peserta. Hasil dari kegiatan ini telah memberdayakan guru dengan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi secara efektif ke dalam metode pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, serta meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman belajar bagi siswa di era digital.

Abstract

Students only rely on national books used by schools issued by the government, many students cannot understand the contents of the book. In addition, foreign materials and vocabulary are not yet known to students. This makes student interest one of the factors in the occurrence of reading problems. Students who have low interest may have difficulty understanding the text. The purpose of writing the research is to develop an English module through the think pair share strategy based on Riau local wisdom in teaching reading comprehension. This study uses (R D) method. The instruments in this study used tests, field notes and interviews as data collection. The sample in this study was class XI Medeka 3 students at SMAN 1 Bangkinang with a total of 26 students. The results of this study showed that before using the module in learning English, the average student score obtained was 75.19. After using the module, the average student score was 81.92. The results of the independent sample test showed that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. The conclusion of this study is that there are no significant results in the use of the English reading teaching module.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the effect of using Project-based Learning (PjBL) method on students’ writing skill of second year students at SMAN 2 Tapung Hilir. The design of this research was experimental research which was deal with two variables. The first variable was project based learning method as independent variable and the second variable was students’ writing skill as dependent variable. The sample of this research was 61 students of second year students at SMAN 2 Tapung Hilir. Further, there were two classes of this research. There were experimental class and control class. To obtain the data, the researcher gave the students explanation text as writing test. The data was analyzed by using paired sample T-test through SPSS 22 version program. Based on result shown that towas8.682 and df was 29. It could be analyzed that to is higher than ttable, of 0,05 on the significance rtable(8.682>0.367), that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is significant effect of using PjBL method on students’ writing skill of second year students at SMAN 2 Tapung Hilir.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine difficulties of learning and the factors that cause difficulties experienced by the algebraic structure to motovated student in learning process. Subject of research undertaken is the third semester students in the academic year 2015/2016. Data collection method used is documentation, test, observation and interview. The reason of student difficulties in learning algebraic structure that is on the problem-solving, concepts and skills. Most problems experienced by students is the troubleshooting sections with a percentage of 62.5%. Another difficulty experienced by students of the difficulty in concept with a percentage of 50%. The difficulties experienced by the last one is trouble on the skills students with a percentage of 45.7%.

Abstract

This study aims to develop valid, practical, and effective reading materials based on visual information for the English Education Program. The study is motivated by the lack of reading materials that utilize visual information in English language learning. The research uses the ADDIE development model, with data collection methods including observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS software. The results show that: (1) in the analysis phase, a pressing need for the development of reading materials based on visual information to improve students' reading skills was identified; (2) in the design phase, the learning materials and visual information design received excellent ratings in accordance with the curriculum requirements and student characteristics; (3) in the development phase, the visual information book and its supporting system met high criteria for validity, practicality, and effectiveness; (4) in the implementation phase, the application of visual information had a positive impact on improving students' reading skills; (5) effectiveness testing showed that the use of visual information in reading skill learning was effective, with the t-test results showing that the t-value (4.697) was greater than the t-table value (1.69) and the significance level was less than 0.05 (0.000). In conclusion, the use of reading materials based on visual information has been proven to improve students' reading skills, showing a significant difference between the experimental group using visual information and the control group not using visual information

Abstract

Digital campaigns have become an effective strategy in influencing public perception about legal issues and law enforcement. This research uses a literature study and case analysis of digital campaigns related to law enforcement. This study aims to analyze the influence of digital campaigns on public perception in the law enforcement process. The results show that digital campaigns can influence public perception about law enforcement by increasing awareness of the community about legal issues, as well as promoting transparency and accountability in the law enforcement process. However, digital campaigns can also have negative impacts if not conducted properly, such as spreading inaccurate information or manipulating public opinion. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct digital campaigns in an ethical and responsible manner to ensure that public perception about law enforcement is accurate and fair.

Abstract

This experimental research was carried out in class X  at  SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang Kota. This research aims to determine the effect of duolingo game as extramural English towards students vocabulary Mastery  at SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang. The research methodology uses a quasi-experimental design. The sample for this research consisted of 53 students, namely 29 students in class X Science two  and 24 ostudents in class X Social. Data collection techniques include tests and documentation. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Duolingo Game can improve the Vocabulary  Mastery  of class X Science two students at SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang Kota as Extramural English  . With an average posttest score of 86,42 and Paired T Test results with a significance level of 5% obtained Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,001 0,05 Therefore, it can be seen that ρ α, meaning that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This proves that duolingo game has a significant effect on students' ability to improve English vocabulary in tenth grade.
