Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the demonstration technique in teaching writing and personal pronouns refer to grammar to Private High School students in Lampung. Writing is a complicated aspect of English skills, particularly for personal pronouns. Personal pronouns are used by people, animals, things, or things. These pronouns depend on the role (subject, object, or possessive), number, third-person, and gender of the replaced noun. The students admitted that the learning method they had received thus far was tedious and only confused them; they needed to learn how to distinguish pronouns in personal pronoun material. The research used a qualitative method and involved 55 students from Private High School students in Lampung, classes IX A and B. Before the demonstration method was applied, almost 50% of students' scores were below 78. The learning method they received was tedious and confusing; they needed to learn how to distinguish pronouns in personal pronouns. However, students’ performance increased or was higher after using the demonstration method. The good and excellent ranges improved to 29%, and 58% of the total was 87%. The results indicate that the demonstration technique is an effective method for teaching writing, particularly for enhancing students' understanding of personal pronouns. Hence, demonstration techniques offer an alternative approach to selecting methods for English language learning. Through the implementation of these techniques, there is an expectation that English learning will become more interactive, thereby engaging students' interest.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the journey of self-acceptance (self- acceptance) and belongingness (belonging) in the character of Natasha Romanoff, which is featured in several Marvel Studios films, including Black Widow (2021), The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). This study employs qualitative research methods, including descriptive analysis, and is based on the Personality Development Theory of Elizabeth B. Hurlock (1974), with a particular emphasis on the concept of self-acceptance. The results of the analysis indicate that the character Natasha Romanoff experiences significant emotional and psychological changes. He begins his life as a traumatized individual who is subjected to the Red Room manipulation and small-scale trauma, and he gradually constructs his own identity after joining the Avengers. Natasha gradually expresses gratitude, trust, and a place to rest through her relationships with Avengers members and her family, a journey that contributes to her self-discovery. Natasha's decision to participate in the final Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of the series, during which she expresses her deepest understanding of herself and her purpose. This study demonstrates that the character Natasha Romanoff is a significant representation of the birth, death, and mourning processes in the context of social relations. It also implies that popular films can serve as a viable medium for exploring psychological and existential issues in depth

Abstract

This research analyzes the realization of metafunctions in selected songs from Noah Kahan’s Stick Season album using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework. The study focuses on ideational metafunction and explores how language constructs meaning in song lyrics. A qualitative descriptive method was applied to five selected songs: Stick Season, All My Love, Strawberry Wine, Growing Sideways, and You’re Gonna Go Far. Data were collected from official lyric videos and analyzed at the clause level. Findings reveal that mental processes dominate the ideational metafunction, as seen in “I am terrified of weather ’cause I see you when it rains,” reflecting inner experiences.
