Abstract

Background: Gouty arthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects many elderly people, characterized by severe pain that can interfere with daily activities. Non-pharmacological treatments are an essential alternative in reducing this pain. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of ergonomic exercises and warm compresses of lemongrass on pain levels in elderly people with gouty arthritis in RT 03 RW 02 Joyotakan Village, Serengan District, Surakarta City. Method: The research method employs a descriptive approach with observation sheets monitored by two respondents. Results: The study showed a decrease in pain levels in both respondents, from moderate to mild pain, and this improvement persisted after the intervention. Pain reduction was achieved through increased muscle relaxation and improved blood circulation, resulting from a combination of gymnastic movements and the analgesic effect of lemongrass leaves. Conclusion: Ergonomic gymnastics and warm compresses made from lemongrass leaves are effective in reducing pain levels in the elderly with gouty arthritis and can be applied as an alternative non-pharmacological therapy in the community.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is the second most common disease in Indonesia after hypertension. Diabetes Mellitus can cause complications, one of which is diabetic ulcer. Diabetic ulcer can lead to amputation of the extremities, especially the lower extremities. Prevention measures that can be taken to prevent diabetic ulcer include foot care therapy. Foot care consists of three preventive measures, starting with education on foot care, diabetic foot exercises, and management of foot injuries/wounds. Foot care training was conducted for five weeks. The study aimed to determine the effect of Diabetes Foot Care Training on the foot care behavior of D patients. Foot care behavior was assessed using the Nottingham Assessment of Functional Footcare (NAFF) tool. The research was conducted over 5 weeks. The study involved 60 respondents divided into an intervention group and control group. The results of the control group showed a p-value > 0,005 (0,647), indicating no difference in foot care behavior in the control group. The Wilcoxon test for the intervention group showed a p-value < 0,005 (0,002), indicating a difference in foot care behavior before and after the intervention. The Mann Whitney test showed a p-value < 0,005 (0,027). The conclusion of the study states that Difoca intervention has an effect on improving foot care behavior in DM patients.

Abstract

The increasing elderly population in Indonesia has resulted in a high prevalence of hypertension, which significantly reduces quality of life due to physical and psychological limitations. Safe and applicable non-pharmacological interventions are needed to support elderly blood pressure management. This community service activity aims to improve the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension in the Ngoresan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) working area through ergonomic exercise therapy training. The implementation method used a participatory approach that included health education, intensive training in six ergonomic exercise movements, and formative and summative evaluations in 43 elderly people. The results showed that most participants were able to perform the movements independently and correctly. Clinically, there was a significant decrease in average blood pressure from 150/90 mmHg to 140/80 mmHg in 70% of participants. In addition, there was an increase in understanding of hypertension management and motivation to perform exercise regularly. It was concluded that ergonomic exercise is effective as a complementary therapy in lowering blood pressure and improving fitness. This intervention is recommended to be integrated into a routine program at the elderly integrated health post (Posyandu) as a sustainable promotive and preventive effort.

Abstract

Background: Risk of Violent Behavior (RVB) is a common mental health nursing problem among patients with severe mental disorders and may endanger both patients and others. One non-pharmacological intervention to reduce RVB is Group Activity Therapy using classical music. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of classical music group activity therapy on the risk of violent behavior in RVB patients. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest approach. The subjects consisted of four RVB patients hospitalized in the Gatotkaca Ward of RSJD dr. Arif Zainuddin, Central Java Province. The intervention involved playing instrumental classical music with a slow tempo for approximately 10–20 minutes. The risk of violent behavior was measured before and after the intervention using the RUFA instrument through behavioral observation. Results: The results showed behavioral improvements in all patients, indicated by enhanced emotional control, reduced agitation, and increased social interaction. Three patients showed improvement in RUFA category, while one patient demonstrated an increased score within the same category. Conclusion: Classical music group activity therapy is effective in reducing the risk of violent behavior and can be recommended as a complementary intervention in mental health nursing care.
