Abstract

For over two decades (1998, 2008, 2019), floods have occurred in Samarinda in various intensities and different areas. In Bengkuring, flooding has submerged houses for days since 2008. It happens for days with an average depth of 0.5-1 meter. Flooding can cause minor, moderate, and severe damage or destruction of homes, property, and community disorders. People whose homes are submerged by floods make some adaptations to mitigate. Some modifications are to create a small barrier in front of the house, raise the floor, and repair waterways. Safe space is crucial during floods, especially in a one-story house. This study aims to improve the form of adaptation in residential homes in flood-prone areas. Similarly, the objective is to modify the interior to create a safe space for goods and occupants. The method of data analysis is based on Space Syntax Analysis J-Graphs. Occasionally, J-Graphs can efficiently explain interior modifications, including the ratio and layer of safe spaces, the number of indoor and outdoor connecting rooms, and the ring configuration. Through the design approach and prototype demonstration, it is possible to install interior modifications by making mezzanine floors and utilizing the attic. Although most previous research on building adaptation focused on home construction, home interior modification promises advantages that will result in a more straightforward and workable project for the community's needs.

Abstract

Samarinda has a reasonably high population, with 872 people with disabilities (2021), based on PPDI DPC Samarinda City data. It is challenging for persons with disabilities to own a home. Therefore, a residential building in the form of a disabled-friendly flats that can house a group of people in one structure is required, emphasizing accessibility. This building's design aims to create a flat accessible to disabled people by paying close attention to the building's exterior rustic architecture. This design method involves identifying problems, collecting data and information, and transforming them into ideas or concepts. Accessibility refers to individuals with disabilities. Government-mandated implementation of accessibility features in circulation routes and space elements with standardized dimensions. This accessible Rusunami also gives attention to the exterior of the building's rustic architecture. The use of red brick characterizes the rustic architectural style, concrete finishing with conwood, natural colors of materials, and designs that evoke a natural look.

Abstract

Indonesia's risks of natural disasters force its people to live and adapt. It happens in Samarinda's urban settlements, which flood annually. Indonesia, a religious country, applied religion to most aspects of life. The religious element is persistent even in homes being inundated by floods. Devout Muslims consistently perform the five daily Shalah and sometimes Sunnah prayers in flooded conditions. This paper analyzed the spatial configuration of the Muslim prayer space in the flooded residence from different phases. The study method was based on Justified Graph analysis, and the sample was a stilt house in some periods. The research locus was in the most settlement area covering frequent floods. This research found that Integration and Mean Depth were the critical factors in prayer spaces in flooded homes due to the connection with other spaces, visual control, and interaction. Muslim home renovations should have a prayer space with high Integration value and low Mean Depth. High Integration connects the prayer space to numerous rooms, making controlling and interacting with others during a flood easier. Low Mean Depth allows easy access to the prayer space from the main entrance. A prayer space will ensure the house has a safe area during a flood.

Abstract

The Class I Immigration Office of TPI Samarinda is one of the technical implementation units of the regional office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of East Kalimantan. It has the duty to carry out some of the main tasks and functions of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, namely providing travel documents and residence permits for both Indonesian citizens and foreigners, particularly in the areas of Samarinda city, Bontang, Kutai district, and Mahakam Ulu. As a public service office, the Immigration Office faces several challenges, including poorly planned spatial organization, lack of adequate photo studios, separate service areas, and unplanned space additions, all of which hinder the primary activities and functions within the office. The redesign of the Class I Immigration Office of TPI Samarinda emphasizes spatial organization and incorporates the architectural style of Neo Vernacular Dayak Kenyah. This emphasis aims to facilitate both visitors and employees in carrying out activities within the office through the application of a grid spatial organization. The application of the Neo Vernacular Dayak Kenyah architectural style includes the form, facade, and building ornaments.

Abstract

Generation Z, which is synonymous with the internet and cyberspace, also has concern for the environment. This study aims to describe the role of students’ green mindset in protecting nature in their fourth semester. This study uses a qualitative, naturalistic paradigm. Primary data was taken from participatory observations of 107 students in the 2020 and 2021 classes of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting study program and interviews with 11 of them. The results of this study were: (1) They have a growth mindset to protect nature; (2) The green mindset they have had has been implemented with real behavior, namely holding deliberations with faculty student organizations to protect the surrounding environment, educating elementary school-age children to sort out the trash around them, doing a simple campaign on the social media they have, writing green in online media, and carrying out real actions in the field (planting plant seeds around the faculty and inviting campus residents to collect cooking oil waste). Overall, students' green mindsets should be cultivated by providing a green curriculum with several green courses to manage environmental challenges.

Abstract

Post-disaster recovery of landslides is a big challenge when the available resources are limited. Recovery includes the phases of rehabilitation and reconstruction. It was based on the guidelines of BNPB (National Disaster Management Authority) in Indonesia. This case-study research analyzed the resilience principle for post-disaster recovery. The locus was at Selili Hill, an urban village in Samarinda, East Kalimantan (Indonesia), with several landslides (land creeping) events over the last twenty years. The community and local construction discuss the resilience principle. This study found that the contribution of community resilience and local construction has a significant role to play in the housing recovery. Community involvement was very active during a disaster. They worked with the local government to provide food supplies and emergency shelter to those in need. As a result, the house rehabilitation was quite successful, focusing on social (income) and physical condition. We hope that the post-disaster rehabilitation concept and demonstration will be durable until the local government relocates the settlement.
