Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meaning, value, and relevance of Basokek in the context of contemporary Islamic economic distribution. A The Basokek tradition of distributing zakat from agricultural produce in Jorong Supanjang is a form of integration between Minangkabau traditional values and Islamic economic principles. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method and interactive analysis by Miles & Huberman, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four key informants, field observations, and documentation. The results show that Basokek reflects the implementation of the principles of distributive justice (al-‘adl), trustworthiness (al-amanah), gratitude (assyukr), and mutual assistance (ta'awun) which are rooted in the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah. This tradition also represents the implementation of maqashid sharia, especially in safeguarding wealth (hifz al-mal) and social life (hifz al-nafs). In a modern context, Basokek has the potential to become a model for community-based zakat distribution that aligns with local values and the formal zakat institutional system. This research confirms that Islamic economics is not only embedded in the formal system but is also deeply rooted in the culture and spirituality of Muslim communities. The implication is that the baseokek tradition can provide benefits to the surrounding community, such as strengthening the community's economic resilience and has the potential to be widely adopted as a basis for reformulating national zakat distribution in a modern contectnces

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the shift in values and behavior of the Minangkabau community from an Islamic economic perspective using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. This study was carried out by searching 312 documents through seven academic databases, then selecting them using the PRISMA protocol to produce 31 relevant literature which was analyzed thematically. The research results show that pelapau, namely individuals who were active in lapau in the past, played a role as social actors who upheld the values of ta'awun (mutual help), qana'ah (simplicity), and amanah (responsibility) in the economic and social life of society. However, modernization and the development of consumer lifestyles have shifted the meaning of lapau from a space of valuable social interaction to an arena of entertainment and consumption, so that lapau behavior tends to deviate from the principles of maqasid al-syariah, especially in the aspects of hifz al-mal (protecting wealth) and hifz al-waqt (keeping time). This study emphasizes that the revitalization of Islamic values in pelapau behavior is necessary to restore lapau as a center for community-based social, moral and sharia economic interaction, so as to be able to re-strengthen the role of local Minangkabau culture in supporting just and ethical Islamic economic development

Abstract

Traditional markets have faced mounting competitive pressure from the rapid expansion of modern retail over the past two decades. This study analyzes the resilience of Indonesian traditional markets against modern-market dominance from an Islamic economics perspective, identifying the factors shaping their competitiveness and formulating adaptation strategies aligned with justice, sustainability, and the public good. Using a qualitative Systematic Literature Review under the PRISMA 2020 protocol, we synthesized 25 selected sources from 185 initial records retrieved from Google Scholar, Garuda Portal, DOAJ, and SINTA. Thematic analysis identified seven dominant themes social capital and communal trust, operational digitalization, regulation and legal protection, physical revitalization and management, local product differentiation, the Islamic economics perspective, and policy advocacy with social capital and digitalization confirmed as the two primary determinants of resilience. Islamic economic values, including honesty, the prohibition of gharar, economic ukhuwah, and the protection of small businesses, emerged as the ethical foundation of that resilience. The study’s principal contribution is a Six-Dimension Adaptation Strategy Model, grounded in Islamic economic values, that integrates the social, economic, institutional, digitalization, regulatory, and public-welfare dimensions traditional markets need to strengthen their resilience and compete with modern markets

Abstract

This study aimed to examining innovations in Sharia-compliant insurance products and business models, specifically crowd takaful, sharing tabarru, and peer-to-peer insurance. The methodology applied follows the PRISMA framework, involving a comprehensive search in the Scopus database, strict selection criteria, and thematic qualitative and quantitative analysis to ensure reliability and relevance of the reviewed literature. Key findings reveal that crowd takaful and peer-to-peer insurance models significantly enhance financial inclusion and uphold ethical insurance principles aligned with Sharia values, with fintech technologies driving operational efficiency and transparency. The discussion highlights how integrating Islamic values into technological innovations deepens understanding and adaptation of these insurance models while identifying regulatory and moral hazard challenges that hinder broader development. The conclusion emphasizes this study’s contribution in linking Islamic economic theory with financial technology advances and its practical implications for regulatory innovation and financial literacy promotion. Future research is recommended to focus on cross-cultural comparative studies, development of hybrid theoretical frameworks combining Islamic economics with innovation diffusion and behavioral finance, and advanced bibliometric analyses to map academic progress and policy collaboration. This study aims to boost academic visibility with SEO-friendly keywords relevant to Sharia insurance and modern financial technology.

Abstract

Despite Minangkabau women's nominal customary authority over ancestral property (harta pusako), poverty among female-headed households remains persistently high, and formal Islamic banking access continues to skew male — a paradox that anchors the novelty of this study. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol, this article synthesizes 42 peer-reviewed articles published between 2016 and 2025 to examine how Minangkabau's matrilineal legacy and cultural traces can revitalize the Islamic economy through local wisdom and modern sharia interventions. Thematic synthesis classifies the literature into three frameworks: Cultural-Institutional (n=19), Socio-Economic Empowerment (n=14), and Digital-Sustainability Integration (n=9). Digital transformation and environmental sustainability emerge as strikingly under-explored themes within matrilineal Islamic economic research, representing a critical novelty gap. Theoretically, the study extends the Resource-Based View and proposes a feminist reading of Maqasid al-Shariah. Practically, it recommends aligning zakat and waqf with matrilineal inheritance practices, developing culturally embedded fintech, and piloting green sukuk. Future research should pursue comparative studies across matrilineal societies, longitudinal mixed-methods designs, blockchain-based waqf prototyping, and policy experiments linking Islamic finance to sustainability goals

Abstract

The migration tradition is an integral part of Minangkabau identity, intertwining customary values, religious principles, and family economic strategies. This study aims to analyze the role of the migration tradition in strengthening family economics from an Islamic economic perspective. Using a qualitative case study approach with six migrant informants, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that migration is driven by religious motivation, family responsibility, and an Islamic work ethic grounded in the principles of kasb (lawful earning), maslahah, and tawazun. Migrant activities—including remittance sending and involvement in social organizations—significantly enhance family welfare, reinforce social solidarity, and preserve customary and religious values. The synthesis of findings indicates that the Minangkabau migration tradition forms a community-based moral economic model that is harmonious, sustainable, and rooted in Islamic economic principles

Abstract

This study aims to examine the rangkiang system in Minangkabau culture as a conceptual model of family economic planning and risk management from an Islamic economic perspective. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, the study analyzes various scholarly sources related to Islamic economics, family resilience, local wisdom, and Minangkabau adat philosophy, integrated with the principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The findings reveal that the rangkiang system comprising Rangkiang Si Bayau-Bayau, Si Tangguang Lapa, and Rangkiang Kaciak reflects three core dimensions of Islamic economics: just and prudent consumption planning (qanā‘ah and tadbīr al-māl), social risk mitigation (iḥtiyāṭ and ta‘āwun), and intergenerational economic resilience (ḥifẓ al-nasl and ḥifẓ al-māl). The integration of Minangkabau customary values with Islamic teachings forms an indigenous Islamic economic system one that emerges from local cultural practices while remaining grounded in maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This study affirms that the Rangkiang Syariah Model can serve as a new paradigm in the development of applied Islamic economics based on local wisdom, strengthening Muslim family economic resilience and enriching the body of contextual Islamic economic theory in Indonesia.
