Abstract

General Background Character education in early childhood is a critical foundation for developing prosocial behavior, particularly helping behavior as part of social-emotional development. Specific Background In Indonesian early childhood education settings, many children aged 4–5 years still demonstrate low initiative in sharing, cooperating, and assisting peers, partly due to the absence of structured and systematic learning media. Knowledge Gap Although the Indonesia Heritage Foundation (IHF) 9 Character Pillars Book is widely recognized in practice, empirical studies focusing on its use as a single, structured medium to instill the value of helping others remain limited. Aims This study aims to analyze the implementation process and outcomes of using the IHF 9 Character Pillars Book to cultivate helping behavior among Group A children aged 4–5 years in a formal early childhood education context. Results Using a descriptive qualitative case study approach at RA Al-Falah Tuban, the findings indicate that staged implementation of the IHF book—integrated into daily learning activities—was associated with observable improvements in children’s willingness to help, share, and participate in cooperative tasks, with the proportion of children demonstrating spontaneous helping behavior increasing from initial observations to the end of the intervention period. Novelty This study provides in-depth evidence on the use of a standardized character education book as a focused medium for instilling helping values in early childhood. Implications The findings offer a practical, structured model for teachers to integrate story-based character education into routine classroom practices, while highlighting the importance of consistency between school and home environments.Highlights: Staged classroom integration of character storybooks supported observable growth in children’s prosocial actions. Teacher-guided reflection and role play facilitated the internalization of care and cooperation values. Consistency between educational settings and home practices emerged as a key supporting condition. Abstract

This research is motivated by the low listening skills of elementary school students caused by the lack of use of interesting and interactive learning media. In addition, the importance of early landslide disaster mitigation education is also a concern in learning. This study aims to describe the development process and determine the effectiveness of digital media based on Grok.ai and Canva in improving the listening skills of third-grade elementary school students. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 22 students. Data collection techniques were carried out through pretest and posttest tests, then analyzed using normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and N-Gain calculations. The results showed that the average pretest score of 56.97 increased to 83.64 in the posttest. The t-test results showed a significance value <0.05, indicating a significant difference, and the N-Gain value of 0.6617 is in the moderate category. Thus, digital media based on Grok.ai and Canva are effective in improving students' listening skills. This research has implications for the use of AI-based technology in innovative learning and has the potential to be developed into other materials.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension ability of elementary school students and the limited use of engaging digital learning media, particularly in forest fire mitigation materials. This study aimed to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of using an e-comic entitled “Forest Fire” developed using Canva and presented through a flipbook website to improve fourth-grade students’ reading comprehension skills. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one group pretest–posttest design. The subjects were 15 fourth-grade students of SDN Lidah Kulon IV. Data were collected through tests and interviews and analyzed using the N-gain formula. The results showed that the average pretest score of 12.93 increased to 14.67 in the posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.57, categorized as moderate. This indicates that the use of Canva-based e-comics and flipbooks was moderately effective in improving students’ reading comprehension skills. The media enhanced students’ reading interest, engagement, and understanding through visual and narrative presentation. Therefore, e-comics can serve as an innovative digital learning medium to support literacy development in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low effectiveness of reading instruction in elementary schools, which has not fully linked the material to the students’ sociocultural context, as well as the lack of integration of diversity values into teaching materials. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of a reading Student Worksheet (LKPD) based on the local wisdom of the Madura Karapan Sapi (Bull Racing) tradition to foster an attitude of mutual respect for diversity. The study employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using a simplified Borg and Gall model, encompassing the stages of needs analysis, design, development, validation, revision, and limited pilot testing. The approach used was a mixed-methods design, with data collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students’ reading skills, marked by an increase in the average score from 68.57 to 89.29. Additionally, students demonstrated a more positive attitude toward diversity. Thus, the LKPD based on the local wisdom of the Madura Karapan Sapi is deemed suitable and effective for use as contextual teaching material that not only improves reading skills but also strengthens the development of students’ social character.

Abstract

Indonesian language learning in elementary schools is often monotonous and teacher-centered, leading to low reading interest and comprehension among students, with minimal integration of local wisdom to enrich cultural literacy. Local wisdom constitutes knowledge, values, and traditions that develop within society and are passed down from generation to generation as part of a region’s cultural identity. Through learning based on local wisdom, students not only acquire academic knowledge but also learn to know, understand, and appreciate their own regional culture. This study aimed to develop a Mini Booklet LKPD based on Solo City’s local wisdom to enhance reading skills for fifth-grade elementary students. The Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) was implemented at an elementary school in Gresik during the even semester of 2025/2026, involving needs analysis, design, expert validation, and trials with 23 students. Instruments included validation sheets and response questionnaires, analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. Results indicated the LKPD was highly feasible (media expert 80%, material expert 88%) and practical (77.75%). In conclusion, this LKPD serves as an innovative, engaging, and contextual medium; future prospects include testing its effectiveness on learning outcomes and expansion to other materials.

Abstract

Basic literacy is an essential competency that must be mastered by elementary school students. However, its development remains a challenge, especially for slow learners who have limitations in processing information. One factor that influences learning success is the availability of teaching materials that are appropriate to student characteristics. This study aims to describe the practicality level of the Student Worksheet (LKPD) "I Can Read and Write". This LKPD is used as an instrument to identify the basic literacy of slow learner students in inclusive elementary schools. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model. The research subjects consisted of a first-grade teacher at SDN Ketintang II as the practicality assessor and one slow learner student as the interview respondent. Data were collected through a practicality questionnaire and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the LKPD obtained a practicality percentage of 88%, categorized as very practical. LKPD is considered easy to use, appropriate to student needs, and able to increase learning engagement. Thus, this LKPD has the potential to be an adaptive teaching material as well as an effective basic literacy identification tool.
