Abstract

Alu Village is one of the villages in Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi Province. Alu Village has a bamboo forest covering an area of 18 ha. The existence of bamboo plants in Alu Village is very abundant, so bamboo leaf litter has the potential to be used as organic fertilizer. Most of the people of Alu Village make their living as farmers. Utilizing bamboo leaf litter into compost is a good alternative for the community. However, the lack of public knowledge regarding making compost means that many are still reluctant to use this fertilizer. This community service program aims to educate the public regarding the use of bamboo litter as compost and minimize bamboo litter waste in Alu Village. The method used is direct provision of materials and practice of making organic fertilizer from bamboo litter through the participation of active participants. The use of bamboo leaf litter as fertilizer, apart from utilizing waste, is also expected to have an influence on plant growth on agricultural land and plantations in local communities.

Abstract

Abstract

The potential of Ta'e Pindang Village, Polewali Mandar Regency in the agricultural aspect, especially sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Merr) is a superior product in its own region. The process of making palm sugar has been going on for a long time and has been practiced by people for generations. The problem that occurs is the lack of skills and knowledge, so that the community is still not optimal in utilizing the potential of sugar palm plants in their area. Until now, people in Ta'e Pindang village only use sugar palm plants by processing them into solid sugar and palm juice which is processed into palm wine. In fact, the products that can be produced from palm sap are very diverse, such as ant sugar, which in terms of selling price will be higher that solid sugar. Therefore, the aim of this PKM is to socialize to the people of Ta'e Pindang village about optimizing palm sap products into ant sugar with high economic value.  It is hoped that the results of the service activities carried out will increase people's insight and interest in utilizing palm sap into other products which in terms of economic benefits are more promising that the products that have been made so far.

Abstract

Sumarorong District is one of the areas in Mamasa Regency that often experiences flood disasters. It was recorded that in 2012 there was a flash flood which not only caused damage to infrastructure but even caused casualties. In 2019 Sumarorong District was again hit by flash floods and landslides which resulted in three elementary schools experiencing serious damage. The flood was triggered by the Batanguru River which divides Sumarorong District in this area overflowing, submerging settlements along the river mouth. The problem of flooding in this area is caused by several factors, such as the rampant illegal logging of forests to convert them into plantation areas and the accumulation of rubbish in river basins. If waste is not managed properly it will cause environmental problems such as pollution, blockage of drainage channels and even flooding. Apart from that, it can also have a negative impact on the health of the surrounding community. The aim of this program is to provide education regarding the importance of awareness in protecting the environment as an effort to prevent flood disasters in Sumarorong District. Through this service activity, it is hoped that it can increase community awareness in preserving forests and managing household waste more independently and sustainably.
