Abstract

The need for truck transportation in the city of Langsa is increasing. This is because the residents of Langsa use trucks as a means of transporting palm oil from plantations. Engine component failures are often experienced in every mechanical construction, and these failures are marked by the breaking of these engine components. Cracks become one of the potential sources of failure in the machine structure. There is a need to detect cracks in the shaft at an early stage to prevent damage. Therefore, it should be investigated using appropriate techniques at the early stage of crack formation. The purpose of this research is to find the potential source of shaft fracture relative to the initial crack location on the shaft. This research method is carried out by determining the same initial crack dimensions at two different locations. The initial crack locations are determined through a case study of frequent fractures in the fillet spline and fillet flange locations. The calculation results show that the permissible stress of the shaft is 80.7 MPa. The finite element method simulation results show that the maximum shear stress value on the shaft without an initial crack is 65.234 MPa, on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet spline location is 69.654 MPa, and on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet flange location is 78.79 MPa. The finite element method simulation results also show that the von Mises shear stress value on the shaft without an initial crack is 113.29 MPa, on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet spline location is 120.66 MPa, and on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet flange location is 137.23 MPa. The finite element method simulation results further show that the von Mises shear strain value on the shaft without an initial crack is 0.000567, on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet spline location is 0.000630, and on the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet flange location is 0.000693. In conclusion, the potential source of failure experienced by the shaft between the two locations of frequent failure is the shaft with an initial crack in the fillet flange location.

Abstract

Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Mikrohidro (PLTMH) telah diakui sebagai solusi efisien dan ramah lingkungan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan energi listrik, terutama di daerah pedesaan dan pegunungan. Dengan menggunakan tenaga air sebagai sumber daya penggerak, PLTMH memanfaatkan potensi energi dari aliran air sungai, saluran irigasi, atau air terjun secara ekonomis dan dengan perawatan yang mudah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan manfaat PLTMH dalam mendukung kesejahteraan masyarakat di Kampung Selamat, Aceh Tamiang, dengan mengintegrasikan energi terbarukan dalam konsep ekowisata. Pendekatan pengabdian masyarakat digunakan dengan sejumlah metode pengambilan data, termasuk survei lapangan, pengukuran topografi, wawancara stakeholder, analisis debit air, dan pemanfaatan data historis iklim. Hasil pengukuran debit aliran sungai pada 30 Oktober 2023 menunjukkan kecepatan aliran dan luas aliran, membentuk dasar perhitungan debit aliran air sebesar 0,8 m³/det. Ketinggian air terjun Gunung Pandan diukur sebesar 8,98 m, menjadi parameter dalam perhitungan daya air, dengan potensi daya terbangkitkan sebesar 66,7 kW. Faktor-faktor krusial seperti ketinggian jatuh air, debit air, efisiensi mesin/turbin, kapasitas instalasi, kondisi hidrologi, kondisi geografis/topografi, dukungan komunitas, dan kebijakan menjadi fokus utama. Hasil survei kebutuhan listrik menunjukkan penggunaan listrik sekitar 450 watt per rumah/warung di Dusun Gunung Pandan. Dengan curah hujan rata-rata 2125,29 mm/tahun, ketersediaan air di sungai dianggap cukup untuk mendukung PLTMH. Semua peralatan mekanikal dan elektrikal dapat diperoleh di pasar lokal, memastikan ketersediaan komponen untuk pembangunan PLTMH. Pendekatan ini diharapkan memberikan solusi inovatif untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat dan merangsang perkembangan pariwisata berkelanjutan di Kampung Selamat, Aceh Tamiang. Kesimpulan penelitian menegaskan bahwa PLTMH dapat menjadi pilihan yang tepat untuk memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat melalui pemanfaatan sumber daya alam secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Penggunaan plastik yang berlebihan telah menjadi masalah serius bagi lingkungan masyarakat Indonesia, terutama di Gampong Baroh, Kecamatan Langsa Lama, Kota Langsa. Eskalasi masalah ini menciptakan tantangan yang mendalam terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan dan kesejahteraan masyarakat setempat. Dalam upaya tegas untuk mengatasi dampak negatif dari penggunaan plastik yang meluas, dilaksanakanlah sebuah program pengabdian masyarakat. Program ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan alat pencacah sampah plastik yang tidak hanya efisien tetapi juga dapat diakses oleh masyarakat dengan lebih mudah. Tujuan utama dari program ini adalah memberikan solusi lokal yang efektif dalam mengelola dan mengurangi dampak sampah plastik dengan pendekatan berkelanjutan. Dalam rangka mencapai tujuan ini, dilakukan pelatihan penggunaan alat pencacah sampah plastik dengan melibatkan partisipasi aktif dari masyarakat setempat. Melalui kolaborasi erat dengan warga Gampong Baroh, tim pengabdian bersama-sama menguji kinerja alat pencacah sampah plastik ini. Hasil dari program pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan alat pencacah sampah plastik telah membawa efisiensi yang cukup signifikan. Masyarakat tidak hanya menerima dengan positif inisiatif ini, tetapi juga menyambutnya dengan antusiasme. Keberhasilan program ini tidak hanya tercermin dalam efisiensi alat tersebut tetapi juga dalam perasaan kepuasan dan kebahagiaan yang dirasakan oleh masyarakat setempat.

Abstract

Differential helical gears are critical components in power transmission systems of vehicles, responsible for transmitting torque from the engine to the drive wheels. These components operate under continuous high torque loads and are susceptible to failure due to material fatigue and the presence of initial cracks. This study aims to predict the initial crack location and evaluate the potential failure of a differential helical gear subjected to a 175 Nm torque using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The gear was modeled with actual dimensions and simulated using ANSYS software under two conditions: without cracks and with an initial crack. The simulation results show that the maximum shear stress without a crack is 45.82 MPa, while with an initial crack, it increases to 66.14 MPa, exceeding the allowable shear stress of ASTM A36 material at 45.45 MPa. This significant increase in stress due to the crack indicates a high risk of structural failure. Therefore, finite element analysis proves to be an effective tool for early crack detection and stress distribution evaluation, which is essential for improving the reliability of gear design and material selection.

Abstract

Industry 4.0 is supported by nine foundational pillars, including Big Data and Analytics, Autonomous Robots, Simulation, Horizontal and Vertical System Integration, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Augmented Reality, Cloud Computing, Additive Manufacturing, and Cybersecurity. This study focuses on horizontal and vertical system integration, which enables seamless information flow across departments, suppliers, and customers through smart systems and IoT devices. One important tool in supporting industrial integration is Computer Aided Design (CAD), which plays a key role in product design and the generation of blueprints that bridge design and manufacturing functions. Most widely used CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, and CATIA are commercial and come with high licensing costs. At Samudra University, Autodesk Inventor Student Version was previously utilized for educational purposes; however, due to its feature limitations and temporary license, an alternative was sought. In collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering Department, FreeCAD was explored as an Open Source solution. This research aims to identify a free and open-source CAD software that offers features comparable to commercial CAD tools and can be further developed without licensing constraints. The methodology involves collecting various Open Source CAD applications, establishing evaluation criteria, testing core functionalities, and selecting the most suitable application to support academic and industrial design needs.

Abstract

Aceh Province is experiencing rapid changes in infrastructure along with population growth and globalization and urbanization. This development and growth has led to a significant increase in the construction of high-rise buildings in urban areas. In multi-storey buildings, the use of materials that have a low albedo against solar radiation, so that a lot of radiation is absorbed and stored in the form of heat in the building so that it can increase the temperature of the building up to 12 °C. The absence of heat absorbers such as green plants around the building affects the thermal comfort of building occupants. Thermal comfort can be measured using various parameters, one of which is the Temperature Humidity Index (THI). The use of green plants of the type of Sansevieria Ttrifasciata which is used as a building envelope for 7 days on the 2nd floor of the Samudra University Laboratory building to measure the temperature difference after being absorbed first by the (Sansevieria Ttrifasciata) in the photosynthesis process. The results show that the THI thermal comfort index is reached at 25°C to 26°C with the conditions shown based on the ASHRAE 55 standard is thermally comfortable.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi telah mendorong transformasi digital di berbagai sektor, termasuk administrasi desa. Namun, pemanfaatan teknologi cloud sebagai media penyimpanan dokumen digital belum sepenuhnya diadopsi oleh aparatur desa. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi digital aparatur kantor keuchik di Desa Meurandeh Dayah melalui pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi cloud. Pelatihan dilakukan oleh tim dari Universitas Samudra dengan metode ceramah, demonstrasi langsung, dan praktik mandiri. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan peserta dalam menggunakan Google Drive sebagai media penyimpanan digital. Kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap efisiensi kerja dan menjadi langkah awal menuju digitalisasi sistem administrasi desa.
