Abstract

Abstract

The integration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) has become an essential component of English language instruction in higher education, particularly in vocational contexts. However, empirical evidence explaining how LMS usage influences students’ learning motivation remains limited. This study aims to examine the effect of LMS usage on students’ motivation in learning English using a quantitative explanatory approach. The study involved 120 vocational higher education students enrolled in English courses, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that LMS usage has a significant positive effect on students’ English learning motivation (β = 0.484, p < 0.001), with an R² value of 0.318, suggesting that LMS usage explains 31.8% of the variance in learning motivation. These findings demonstrate that structured LMS features, interactive content, and timely feedback contribute meaningfully to students’ motivational engagement in English learning. This study provides empirical evidence that LMS functions not only as a digital learning platform but also as a motivational driver in vocational English education, offering practical implications for instructors and institutions in designing effective LMS-supported learning environments.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid growth of mobile technologies has reshaped how learning systems are designed, deployed, and evaluated, particularly in vocational education contexts. From a Mobile Software Engineering perspective, learning platforms must address constraints such as short interaction cycles, heterogeneous devices, scalability, and real-time analytics. This study focuses on the design and engineering of an AI-enabled mobile microlearning application that integrates short-form video, learning analytics, and LMS services to support vocational students’ soft-skills development. The proposed system is engineered as a mobile-first application with modular micro-content (60–180 seconds), rule-based personalization, and event-driven analytics to capture user interaction patterns. A Research and Development approach using the ADDIE framework is adopted, with emphasis on the software design, architecture, and prototyping stages. Validation involves expert review of system usability, content–software alignment, and limited pilot testing with end users. The results demonstrate that a mobile-engineered microlearning system can achieve high completion rates, acceptable latency under concurrent access, and effective analytics-driven feedback loops. The study contributes a practical mobile software engineering artefact and design insights for AI-enabled learning applications in vocational education.

Abstract

This study examines the mediating role of work-life balance in the relationships between workload, job satisfaction, and job performance among Generation Z employees in the manufacturing industry. A quantitative explanatory approach using a three-wave time-lagged survey was employed, involving 300 employees selected through purposive sampling from manufacturing companies in Tangerang Regency, Banten, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), with job performance assessed through employee self-reports. The findings revealed that higher workload was significantly associated with lower work-life balance, job satisfaction, and job performance. Conversely, work-life balance showed significant positive associations with both employee outcomes. Furthermore, work-life balance significantly mediated the relationships between workload and job satisfaction and between workload and job performance, with indirect effects exceeding the corresponding direct effects in magnitude. These findings provide context-specific evidence consistent with the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework, highlighting perceived work-life balance as an important intervening factor connecting job demands with employee attitudes and self-reported performance. However, the observed mediation represents statistical associations rather than definitive evidence of causal or psychological recovery mechanisms. From a managerial perspective, the findings suggest that manufacturing organizations should consider evaluating workload distribution and employees' perceived ability to accommodate non-work responsibilities alongside employee satisfaction and performance. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of considering work-life balance within manufacturing workforce management while acknowledging the interpretative limitations of its observational design.
