Abstract

Fishery catches are a vital food source in Indonesia, including catfish, which is a key freshwater species cultivated commercially, particularly on Java. This study examines the current state of catfish farming in Lebaksari Hamlet, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, and proposes development strategies based on socio-economic aspects. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, the research assesses the social and economic impacts of catfish farming on local residents. Data were collected from 30 catfish farmers selected through Simple Random Sampling, covering aspects from rearing to marketing. SWOT analysis was used for data interpretation. The findings indicate that leveraging existing strengths and seizing opportunities, such as market expansion and technological advancements, can enhance catfish farming development. Key strategies include market development, optimizing farming technology, fostering partnerships with customers and business partners, sustainable natural resource utilization, and strengthening collaboration with government bodies. These strategies aim to improve productivity, economic benefits, and sustainability in catfish farming in Lebaksari Hamlet.

Abstract

Gerdarsi Beach is an undeveloped beach in Nyama Hamlet, Southwest Maluku Island, Indonesia. It features a 1.5 km long white sandy shoreline, coral reefs 100-300 m offshore, lowland topography (0-5 m above sea level), savannah vegetation, and minimal basic infrastructure. With only one manager, this beach serves as a representative case study for research on carrying capacity in remote destinations in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to calculate tourism carrying capacity (physical carrying capacity, real carrying capacity, and effective carrying capacity). Carrying capacity is used to calculate land capacity, population size, and space per person. A quantitative method was used, with calculations based on Douglass, Vandelli, and Muhammad using Microsoft Excel to calculate the tourism carrying capacity. The research results show that the current tourist arrival rate is 302 people per day, while the physical carrying capacity (PCC) reaches 2,966,860 people per day. The actual carrying capacity (RCC) and effective carrying capacity (ECC) have been exceeded by 302 visits per day, necessitating control through visitor restrictions. The land carrying capacity, with an area of ​​17.20 km² and a population of 935, is 1.83 ha per person. This study concludes that PCC is still feasible for development, while RCC and ECC need to be remanaged or controlled. Abstract

Urban organic waste remains a major environmental challenge in developing cities worldwide. It constitutes the bulk of municipal waste streams, primarily the organic fraction, including household food waste and organic market scraps, and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. BSF larvae bioconversion offers a nature-based solution that can reduce organic waste while producing valuable biomass for circular bioresource systems. However, research that quantitatively evaluates the multidimensional sustainability of community-based BSF cultivation programs at the city level, particularly in Indonesia, is limited. This study evaluated the sustainability of the BSF cultivation program in Mojokerto City using MDS-RAPFISH, which encompasses five dimensions: environmental, economic, social, institutional, and technological. An indicator-based assessment utilizing conceptual modelling and policy analysis determined the program’s sustainability status and leverage attributes. The overall sustainability index was 54.22, which indicates moderate sustainability. The highest score was recorded in the environmental dimension (74.97). The subsequent dimensions were social (66.34), institutional (65.82), technological (61.70), and economic (60.92). These results show that there are constraints in terms of community participation, institutional support, technological consistency and market integration. The results show that although BSF cultivation has significant environmental benefits, it needs to be supported more technically and economically to be sustainable

Abstract

Generasi muda di Indonesia belum memiliki pola makan yang seimbang, terutama dalam hal konsumsi sayur ataupun produk nabati lain dengan manfaat serupa. Salah satu elemen masyarakat muda, yakni santri merupakan target strategis edukasi mengenai manfaat kesehatan produk fermentasi nabati. Produk fermentasi nabati, seperti kimchi, sauerkraut, bekasam jamur, dan acar timun, mengandung probiotik, vitamin, dan senyawa bioaktif yang berperan dalam menjaga kesehatan pencernaan, memperkuat sistem imun, dan mendukung metabolisme tubuh. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan efektivitas edukasi manfaat kesehatan produk fermentasi nabati, lewat kombinasi pemaparan materi ilmiah dengan praktik langsung pembuatan produk. Metode presentasi interaktif dan demonstrasi praktik langsung digunakan dalam proses edukasi, sedangkan dalam mengevaluasi peningkatan pengetahuan santri, digunakan metode kuesioner pre dan post test yang harus dijawab santri sebelum dan sesudah edukasi. Nilai hasil kuesioner kemudian diujikan dalam uji normalitas dan Wilcoxon signed-rank test untuk mengetahui adanya signifikansi peningkatan skor pengetahuan. Hasil kuesioner berbasis pre-test dan post-test pada 29 santri menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan skor pengetahuan dari 26,55% menjadi 82,76% (p<0,05). Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa edukasi berbasis teori dan praktik efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan akan manfaat kesehatan produk fermentasi nabati serta berpotensi menjadi landasan pengembangan modul edukasi yang dapat diimplementasikan secara luas di masyarakat.

Abstract

Background: Waste generation is an increasingly complex environmental problem along with population growth and increased economic activity, especially in tourism-based areas such as Bali Province. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of population density, Gross  Regional  Domestic  Product  (GDP)  per  capita,  and  waste management infrastructure on waste generation in all districts/cities in Bali Province in the 2021–2024 period using a panel data regression approach. Methods: Secondary data was obtained from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Province, and the Bali Province One Data Portal. The selection of the best model was carried out through the Chow Test, Hausman Test, and Lagrange Multiplier Test, which resulted in a Random Effect Model (REM) as the selected estimation model. Results: The results showed that population density and GDP per capita had a significant effect on waste generation with coefficient values of 50.35 and 0.58, respectively, while the variables of waste management infrastructure had no significant effect. The model was able to explain the variation in waste generation by 84.98% (R² = 0.8498). Conclusion: These findings indicate that demographic and economic factors are the main determinants of waste generation in Bali Province, so waste management policies need to consider the dynamics of population growth and regional economic development.
