Abstract

In the context of Minahasa, in fact women have been given equal opportunities with men. But it is also undeniable fact that women in Minahasa are also face a lot of struggles. Some women become objects to domestic or workplace violence, trafficking, divorce, marginalization in the workplace, etc. There are women who are forced or willing to leave their jobs because of the demands of marriage and family life. So, the problem is, even though the society or even the church provides space for women to play an active role, some women reject it with cultural or social reasons. The problem lies with women who cannot use the opportunities to explore their abilities that God has given them to work with others in God’s missionary work. This research aims to analyze the role of the women who followed Jesus in church growth according to Luke 8:1-3. This research uses qualitative research methods by collecting data from books and journals that will be analyzed to get the conclusion. The result of this research reveals that women can play active roles in the society and church ministry using all their capacities that God has given to them. A change of thought is necessary if what is expected is a change of action. Change of thinking from women themselves to be willing to fight for liberation and transformation in her life and other people’s life through church’s and society’ mission/ministry. Keywords: Luke, woman, Jesus’s follower, church, ministry.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of biblical values and women’s empowerment in community-based environmental stewardship through the Waste Bank program at Getsemani Church in Manado, Indonesia. Rapid urbanization and inadequate waste management have intensified ecological and social challenges, including flooding and public health risks. While faith communities are increasingly recognized as potential agents of sustainability, the role of theological motivation and gender dynamics in environmental actions remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze how biblical principles inform ecological practices and how women’s participation contributes to the effectiveness and sustainability of local waste management initiatives. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining qualitative case studies, participatory action research, quantitative surveys, and theological literature analysis. Data were collected from 25 key informants and 100 survey respondents supported by field observations and document reviews. The findings indicate that values such as stewardship (Genesis 2:15) and creation care (Psalm 24:1) serve as strong moral motivators, with a positive correlation (Pearson’s r = 0.68) between biblical literacy and program participation. Women constituted 75% of active participants, driving operational success, economic returns (average IDR 4.5/month), and community engagement. Their involvement has led to a 35% reduction in landfill-bound waste and improved drainage conditions, thus mitigating localized flooding. Furthermore, the program enhanced women’s financial autonomy and social recognition within the church and the broader community. The study concludes that faith-based environmental initiatives, when rooted in theological convictions and inclusive of women’s leadership, can generate tangible ecological, economic, and social impacts. This model offers a replicable framework for urban churches seeking to respond to ecological crises through spiritually grounded, community led action.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of Christian Perfection according to John Wesley and its relevance to the life and ministry of church officers in the GMIM Gloria Taratara congregation. The main issue addressed is the moral and spiritual crisis among church officers, particularly cases of adultery that contradict the Christian calling and the ethical demands of ministry. This study aims to analyze the gap between Wesley’s teaching on Christian Perfection and the lived reality of church officers, as well as to propose a renewed paradigm for church ministry. A qualitative research approach was employed, using interviews with church officers and congregation members, combined with theological literature analysis. The findings reveal that many church officers understand ministry merely as a formal ecclesial duty, lacking a deeper awareness of Christian Perfection as a lifelong process of sanctification rooted in perfect love. The study concludes that Wesley’s concept of Christian Perfection needs to be reconstructed as a communal process supported by spiritual formation, church discipline, and accountability systems, so that ministry may authentically reflect Christ’s love, holiness, and moral integrity within the contemporary church context.

Abstract

Ecological crises in Indonesia, such as rapid deforestation, the spread of mining, loss of biodiversity, climate, and frequent disasters, overlap with each other and require more frequent theological and technical solutions (Margono et al., 2014; Sodhi et al., 2004; Steffen et al., 2015). As the largest archipelagic state in the world, with Christian communities of different denominations widely distributed throughout the country, Indonesian Christian scholarship has begun to develop particular models of ecological theology. However, this new area is still divided, and there is not much systematic systematization of its thematic, methodological, and contextual developments (Golo and Yusuf 2018). In this article, a systematic literature review on the topic is conducted using PRISMA to examine Indonesian Christian ecotheology to from 20002025. Nine databases of academic sources ( Scopus, Web of Science, Atla Religion Database, ProQuest Religion and Philosophy, EBSCOhost, DOAJ, GARUDA, Neliti, and major repositories of theological collections) revealed 1,847 records, and 68 studies were selected after screening and eligibility tools. Quality appraisal was an integration of the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) (used to assess empirical works) (Hong et al., 2018) and a modified theological assessment framework (Vanhoozer, 2005; Schreiter, 1985). Data synthesis was performed based on descriptive statistics, mapping of key word co-occurrence, and thematic analysis (Sandelowski et al., 2006; Thomas and Harden, 2008). The results indicate rapid growth since 2016, denominational diversity, and five master themes: doctrinal foundations, indigenous cosmologies and land/sea relations, ecclesial practices and eco-spirituality, public and justice-oriented ecotheology, and methodological developments. Indonesian ecotheology also contributes to the global discourse through its adat, archipelagic and disaster experiences, and postcolonial critique, although there are still gaps in Papua-Maluku ecotheology, Pentecostal ecotheology, marine theology and urban theology, and outcome-oriented research.

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions and practices of personal testimony among adolescents and young adults in GMIM Getsemani Perum Risky with regard to their congregational life practices. Using a qualitative participatory ethnographic design, data were gathered from 20 members through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of congregational documents. The evidence indicates that personal testimony is an essential, not marginal, practice since whoever is to express, interpret, and communicate faith. Testimonies come mostly from a feeling of gratitude at how God has helped them and an inner sense of calling and encouragement from leaders and peers, but they are also accompanied by anxiety, feelings of unworthiness, and fear of being judged. As a matter of fact, empirically, testimony is a kind of lived narrative theology: through telling detailed accounts of the struggle, divine assistance and change, participants re-read their histories of life through the lens of the gospel and combine the teaching of theology with the experience. The act of testifying brings about emotional and spiritual change, while listening to the testimonies of others brings about mutual edification, consolation, and hope. The study further shows that the practice of testifying in this congregation is influenced by the dialogue between GMIM's Reformed heritage and Minahasan cultural values such as mapalus, honesty, and solidarity, which together foster authenticity, openness, and communal responsibility.

Abstract

This study examines how the Christian book, the Buku Renungan Harian Keluarga (RHK), influenced the formation of faith among the members of GMIM Baitel Eris in the Tandengan District. Set in the context of the overall discussion on Protestant spiritual formation and family worship, the study deals with the current application of RHK in home worship, its perception by congregants, and its contribution to spiritual development and family life. Data were collected using a qualitative case study design, where semi-structured interviews with adult congregants, parents, youth, Sunday school teachers, column leaders, and office-bearers of the church were used, supplemented by participatory observations during family and sectoral worship venues and document analysis of RHK editions and church records. Thematic data analysis was conducted in accordance with the steps of data analysis presented by Braun and Clarke. The results indicate that RHK is more strongly integrated into GMIM Baitel Eris' daily piety, and thus, it is a domestic liturgical script that reflects congregational worship. The devotional reflection part is the experience that is found to be the most valuable, as it connects Scripture and everyday life. According to the respondents, they experienced improved spiritual knowledge, increased intimacy with God, self-character development, and improved family relations. The first barrier to regular use was busyness, and the digital formats and proposed interactive features are hints of what needs to be changed in the future. The paper concludes that Christian books continue to play a crucial role in the formation of faith in local GMIM settings and makes pastoral suggestions to support and revitalise the practices of family-oriented devotion in the face of modern-day social and technological transformation.
