Abstract

Abstract

Insān are the most dominant creatures on earth. Philosophy and science have used various methods to understand him, but he is only able to know certain aspects of the person, he does not know the whole person, even most of the questions asked by those who study the insān -to themselves- still remain unanswered. Therefore, one of the ways to know who the human is to refer to divine revelation so that we can find the answers. For this reason, this study aims to find out about the insān as well as its characteristics from the perspective of the Koran. This research uses the mauḍū'ī (thematic) tafsir method. The results show that what is meant by insan in the Koran is a human being with all his totality, body and soul. The Koran mentions many characteristics of insan -from positive to negative-, and these characteristics can be classified into two: Inborn (fiṭrī) and acquired (muktasab). The innate characters (fiṭrī) described by the Quran are: Weak, hasty, fond of arguing and disputing, miserly, restless and complaining, unjust and ignorant, transgressing limits, very insubordinate, happy, boast. As for the acquired character (muktasab) which is pursued by the insān himself, among others: Kufr, disobedience, quarrel, despair, and hopelessness.

Abstract

This article examines the digitalization of the Living Qur’an in Indonesia by analyzing how Qur’anic knowledge is produced, circulated, authorized, and received through digital platforms. The study responds to a central scholarly problem: digital media have expanded public access to Qur’anic learning, yet they have also transformed the basis of religious authority, interpretive legitimacy, and everyday Qur’anic reception. Using a qualitative research design that combines digital ethnography and qualitative content analysis, this study analyzes publicly available Qur’anic discourse on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Indonesian tafsir websites, including long-form tafsir lectures, short-form Qur’anic content, digital tafsir materials, and audience interactions. The findings show that digital platforms have become new infrastructures of Qur’anic knowledge, making the Qur’an searchable, portable, shareable, and continuously embedded in everyday digital life. The study also finds that tafsir authority is no longer shaped solely by sanad, scholarly credentials, pesantren affiliation, or institutional recognition, but is increasingly negotiated through media visibility, communicative style, audience trust, and algorithmic circulation. Furthermore, digital Qur’anic knowledge increasingly shifts from textual-systematic tafsir toward practical moral pedagogy addressing worship, family life, anxiety, repentance, social ethics, and personal spirituality. Digital audiences also participate in constructing Qur’anic reception through comments, questions, sharing, and public engagement. The article contributes theoretically by extending Living Qur’an studies into digital religion scholarship and proposing digital Qur’anic reception as a mediated socio-religious formation shaped by scripture, authority, technology, and participatory audiences.

Abstract

Contemporary society often experiences stress, anxiety, and depression due to technological advances and rapid social change. In the Qur'an, Surah Al-Baqarah/2: 183, fasting is described as a comprehensive practice that helps individuals cope with stress and improve mental health through reflection and changes in existential awareness. This study aims to explore self-transformation and harmony between humans and nature through fasting, using approaches from the Qur'an and science. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis, utilizing relevant literature on fasting, mental health, and human interaction with the environment. The research findings indicate that fasting is a spiritual ritual and teaches simplicity and respect for nature, which supports the balance between humans and the environment. The recommendations from this study are to encourage the practice of fasting to achieve better mental and ecological health, and to expand studies on the impact of fasting in the context of mental health and the environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of I’jāz Balāghī in Surah Yāsīn through a comparative study of Tafsīr al-Kasysyāf by al-Zamakhsharī and Ṣafwah al-Tafāsīr by ‘Alī al-Ṣābūnī. The study of Qur’anic inimitability, particularly in its linguistic dimension, has become increasingly significant amid contemporary academic debates that question the authenticity of the Qur’an, thus requiring a balāghah-based approach as evidence of its rhetorical superiority. This research employs a qualitative library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach and a comparative method. The data sources consist of primary data from Tafsīr al-Kasysyāf and Ṣafwah al-Tafāsīr, as well as secondary data from literature on ‘ulūm al-Qur’ān, balāghah, and relevant academic journals. Data were collected through documentation by identifying and classifying verses of Surah Yāsīn containing elements of ma‘ānī, bayān, and badī‘. The data analysis was conducted by describing each mufassir’s interpretation and comparing their similarities, differences, and methodological strengths in explaining I’jāz Balāghī. The findings reveal that I’jāz Balāghī in Surah Yāsīn is manifested through the integration of ma‘ānī, bayān, and badī‘, forming both rhetorical and argumentative structures. Tafsīr al-Kasysyāf emphasizes a deep linguistic-analytical approach, while Ṣafwah al-Tafāsīr offers a more systematic and applicative explanation. Comparatively, both exegeses complement each other in understanding the multidimensional nature of I’jāz Balāghī, thereby reinforcing the argument of the Qur’an’s inimitability from a linguistic perspective.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Fazlur Rahman's ideas within the framework of decolonizing Islamic studies by highlighting the relevance of Qur'anic ethics to the development of Artificial Intelligence. Through a qualitative approach based on text analysis and literature study, this research explores how Fazlur Rahman's dual method, specifically the dual movement from text to context, can be utilized as an epistemological instrument in liberating Islamic studies from the hegemony of secular and fragmented Western rationality. Decolonization in this context does not only mean liberation from Western methodological influence, but also the reconstruction of the Islamic scientific paradigm rooted in revelation and universal ethical values summarized in the terms Iman, Islam, and Taqwa. The integration of Qur'anic ethics with Artificial Intelligence is interpreted as an effort to bring moral awareness, social responsibility, and prophetic spirituality into the development of modern technology. The results of the study show that the values of faith, justice, trustworthiness, and benefit, as formulated by Fazlur Rahman, can be an ethical framework in responding to the moral challenges of using Artificial Intelligence. This research contributes to strengthening an autonomous, contextual, and human-oriented Islamic scientific paradigm, while also emphasizing the importance of liberating Islamic reasoning from the dominance of colonial epistemology in facing the digital era and the Artificial Intelligence revolution.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the relationship between the concept of Islah al-Afrad (individual reform) and social welfare from an Islamic perspective, as well as to explore its relevance in the contemporary era. This study is motivated by various modern social problems that indicate that structural development alone has not been fully capable of realizing societal well-being without being accompanied by individual moral and spiritual transformation. Therefore, Islah al-Afrad is viewed as a crucial foundation for building a harmonious and just social order. This research employs a qualitative approach based on a literature review, utilizing descriptive-analytical analysis of normative Islamic sources, such as the Qur’an and hadith, as well as relevant contemporary literature. The findings indicate that Islah al-Afrad is closely linked to the creation of social welfare, as individuals of good character and integrity will contribute to the formation of a just, caring, and civilized society. This concept emphasizes that sustainable social change must begin with the internal transformation of the individual, which then impacts the improvement of broader social structures. In the contemporary context, Islah al-Afrad is relevant as an alternative approach to addressing various social challenges, such as moral crises, social inequality, and the disintegration of values. This study contributes to reinforcing the perspective that social welfare in Islam is not merely material in nature, but also encompasses spiritual and moral dimensions as an integral whole.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Muslim women in the public sphere using a systematic literature review approach. By integrating indexed scientific sources, gender theory, and Islamic studies, this research aims to outline the evolution of women’s roles from historical to contemporary perspectives. Historical approaches and methodological frameworks are employed to structure arguments systematically, covering the basic Islamic concept of women’s roles, the methodology applied in the literature review, analysis of social dynamics and relevant case studies, and critical discussion of challenges and opportunities faced by women in the public sphere. This study also identifies internal and external factors that influence women’s roles, ranging from geographical context to public policy developments. The findings show that interpretations of the concept of equality in Islam have shifted over time and are shaped by socio-political dynamics. This research is expected to stimulate further academic debate on women’s roles in the public sphere and contribute to more inclusive policies. This article explores various historical and contemporary dimensions that shape the role of Muslim women in the public sphere, highlighting both the potential and challenges in translating Islamic values of equality into policy and social practice. It is hoped that this study will enrich academic discourse on the relationship between religion, gender, and modernity, and pave the way for policy initiatives that support women’s empowerment in the Islamic world.
