Abstract

Generation Z lives in a fast-paced digutal era, full of academic, social, and emotional demands, making them more vulnerable to burntout. Burntout among gen z students appears in the form of mental, emotional, and physical fatigue due to continuous pressure. On the other hand, islamic teachings through the sayings of Prophet Muhammad SAW offer spiritual values that can serve as a preventiive strategy for maintaining mental health. This study aims to analyze the role of spiritual values in hadith as an effort to prevent burnout among gen z students. The research uses a literature review method with a qualitative approach through the analysis of psychology literature, hadith books, scientific artivles, and several supproting interviews. The study results indicate that spiritual values such as patience, trust in God (tawakkal), moderation (wasathiyah), rememberance of God (dhikr), and self-purification (tazkiyah al-nafs) can strengthen emotional regulation and mental redilience in students. These values are also in line with the concepts of coping in modern psychology, both problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping, thus helping students face academic and social pressures more balancedly. Furthermore, hadith-based spirituality provides a sense of meaning, inner peace, and clear life direction, which are importantt factors in preventing burnout. Therefore, this study concludes that spiritual values in the hadith have significant potential as a preventive approach to enhancing the mental well-being oh Gen Z students amidst the dynamics and challenges of the digital age.

Abstract

The tradition of reciting Hidzib Bahr is one of the religious practices preserved in Islamic boarding schools and reflects the implementation of hadith values in daily life. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Hidzib Bahr recitation tradition at PPP Kuttabul Banat Lasem, analyze the forms of living hadith reflected in the practice, and explore the meanings and hadith values understood by the students through this tradition. This research employed a field research design with an empirical qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Hidzib Bahr recitation is conducted regularly after the congregational Fajr prayer and attended by all students as part of the pesantren’s spiritual development program. This tradition represents a form of living hadith as it embodies the values of prophetic traditions concerning the virtues of remembrance (dhikr) and gathering in dhikr assemblies after Fajr prayer. Furthermore, the students interpret the tradition as a means of taqarrub ilallah (drawing closer to Allah), ta'dzim ilal-ustadz (respecting and honoring teachers), and cultivating spiritual discipline and consistency (istiqamah). This study concludes that the Hidzib Bahr recitation tradition at PPP Kuttabul Banat Lasem serves as a manifestation of living hadith that contributes to the internalization of Islamic values and the development of students’ religious character.

Abstract

Academic burnout is one of the common challenges experienced by postgraduate students due to high academic demands, such as thesis completion, scholarly publication requirements, and various other responsibilities. Within the Muslim community, prayer serves as a form of spiritual coping used to deal with such pressures. This study aims to analyze the reception of postgraduate students at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang toward the self-protection prayer narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari No. 6363 as a form of Islamic mindfulness culture in coping with academic burnout. This research employed a qualitative approach using the Living Hadith method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eleven postgraduate students selected through purposive sampling and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the participants’ reception encompasses three aspects: acceptance, interpretation, and practice. The prayer was acquired through various transmission channels, particularly Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), religious study circles, and social relationships. Participants interpreted the prayer as a means of self-protection, spiritual strengthening, and guidance in dealing with academic pressures. The prayer was practiced both regularly and situationally when facing academic difficulties. Its practice generated positive psychological effects, including feelings of calmness, reduced anxiety, improved focus, and a stronger sense of tawakkul (trust in God). This study concludes that the prayer narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari No. 6363 represents a form of Living Hadith reception that functions as an Islamic mindfulness practice in helping students manage academic burnout.

Abstract

The rapid growth of cosplay culture among young Indonesian Muslims raises important theological questions regarding the hadith of tasyabbuh (imitation), which prohibits Muslims from resembling certain groups. This study analyzes cosplay behavior among Muslim youth through the lens of the tasyabbuh hadith (HR. Abu Dawud No. 4031) using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were collected via an online questionnaire distributed to four Muslim cosplayers with at least two years of active experience. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal: (1) Muslim cosplayers are motivated by artistic expression, self-exploration, and social belonging; (2) informants construct diverse interpretations of tasyabbuh, including emphasis on intention, semantic reinterpretation of "qawm" as living groups, and restriction of tasyabbuh to religious worship; (3) application of the three-element tasyabbuh framework (shuroh, maqshod, madhmun) shows that cosplaying fictional anime characters generally does not fulfill all three elements simultaneously; and (4) informants self-regulate through character selection, costume modification, and behavioral limits. The study concludes that cosplay cannot be judged uniformly without considering the character type, clothing standards, and intent.

Abstract

This study examines the manifestation of living hadith in the Jum’at Berkah (Blessed Friday) tradition practiced at Al-Chasan Mosque, Ngebruk Village, Poncokusumo District, Malang Regency. The Jum’at Berkah tradition is a socio-religious activity involving the distribution of food, beverages, and charitable assistance to all Friday prayer congregants, which has been continuously carried out for more than a decade. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method and a living hadith perspective. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Jum’at Berkah tradition is grounded in three primary hadiths: the hadith concerning the virtues of Friday, the hadith encouraging charity (sadaqah), and the hadith promoting mutual assistance among fellow Muslims. Mosque administrators and congregants not only understand these hadiths textually but also implement them in concrete social actions through two modes of interpretation: normative-textual and practical-contextual. This tradition represents a form of functional reception of hadith that has transformed into a local religious culture, fulfilling four main social functions: Islamic philanthropy, da‘wah bil hal (preaching through action), the strengthening of Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), and social care. The Jum’at Berkah tradition demonstrates that living hadith is not merely an academic concept but a living reality embedded in the daily life of rural Muslim communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

In today's digital era, social media functions not only as a communication tool but has also transformed society's perspective on moral values. This study aims to analyze how algorithmic systems and the attention economy on social media influence the shifting meaning of modesty (al-haya’) within the context of Islamic values. Employing a qualitative case study method on the digital activities of public figure Dinar Candy, this research dissects the phenomenon of losing modesty to chase digital metrics such as views, likes, and shares. The findings indicate a compartmentalization strategy, where the subject separates real-world and virtual identities to justify vulgar behavior under the guise of professionalism or art. Consequently, a process of collective moral desensitization occurs, leading the digital society to gradually normalize content that violates religious norms. This study also finds that the "alternative dawah" excuse frequently used by controversial content creators is often a failed form of digital self-defense (cyber-apologetics) that instead results in the assimilation of immorality. This research concludes the critical importance of revitalizing moral awareness of modesty as an ethical shield amidst the current wave of a permissive virality culture.

Abstract

Abstract The era of modernization and digitalization has brought many changes in people's lives, especially for Generation Z, who grew up in the internet era and have a fairly intense attachment to social media use. With a fairly high intensity, this condition has given rise to a psychological phenomenon commonly called Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) where people tend to have the urge to always monitor social media to stay informed and follow popular trends. The purpose of this study was to analyze FOMO behavior towards Gen Z active social media users, especially on TikTok and Instagram platforms, from the perspective of the hadith about Qana'ah or a sense of sufficiency for what is owned. Researchers used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to generate data from experiences and phenomena that occur in the surrounding environment. Participants in this study were active users of TikTok and Instagram social media, especially among Generation Z (Gen Z) to explore the behavior of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). The results of this study indicate that a large number of active social media users experience this phenomenon with the emergence of social comparisons resulting from the intensity of social media use, from comparing their achievements, appearance, and lifestyle with others. The condition of the phenomena in this environment is very relevant to the concept of the hadith qana'ah which emphasizes the importance of self-control so as not to be trapped in a feeling of dissatisfaction with what one already has.

Abstract

Prophetic leadership is a model of leadership rooted in prophetic values as manifested in the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Amid the leadership crisis in Islamic education that frequently relies on conventional managerial models, a systematic study of prophetic leadership hadiths becomes urgently needed. This study aims to identify the concept of prophetic leadership in the Prophet's hadiths and analyze its implications for contemporary Islamic educational management. This qualitative research employs a library research approach, drawing on primary data sources from canonical hadith collections (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan Tirmidhi) and secondary sources including relevant books and journal articles. Data were analyzed through takhrij al-hadith, matn analysis, and contextual interpretation using a hermeneutic approach. The findings reveal that the Prophet's hadiths contain prophetic leadership values encapsulated in four main pillars: siddiq (honesty and integrity), amanah (responsibility and accountability), tabligh (communication and transparency), and fathanah (intelligence and competence). Implications for Islamic educational management include reforming the organizational culture of madrasas and pesantrens, strengthening the capacity of school principals as moral-academic leaders, and internalizing prophetic ethics in educational governance. This research contributes to developing an authentic and transformative Islamic educational leadership model grounded in normative Islamic sources.
