Abstract

Abstract

Small pelagic purse seine vessels in Jakarta are dominated by vessels with a length of 14.5 m. The vessel's hull construction was made by a traditional vesselyard using wood. The construction process only relies on the skills and habits of craftsmen. The choice of engine is only based on the size of the vessel and the price of the engine without calculating resistance. In general, the power of the purse seine main engine as the main mover is not suitable, causing wasteful fuel consumption. The fishing vessel engine used by MV Putra Abadi comes from a modified truck engine so that the fuel used does not comply with specifications. This research aims to determine the amount of power needed to move a Putra Abadi fishing vessel. The method used is direct observation by taking direct measurements of the dimensions of MV Putra Abadi. Next, the engine resistance and power are also calculated using the Holtrop resistance method in software. The Putra Abadi fishing vessel based on hydrostatic calculations showed that the block coefficient (Cb) is 0.425 at a speed of 7 knots, the resulting resistance is 2.5 kN. While at a maximum speed of 8 knots the BHP is 98.82. The power requirement of Putra Abadi fishing vessel according to this calculation is only 46% of the engine power currently used.

Abstract

Aquatic environmental management is needed to carry out aquaculture in traditional ponds. The purpose of this study was to reveal and explain the composition of phytoplankton intraditional milkfish (Chanos chanos) ponds in Sidoarjo, East Java. The study was conducted inAugust - September 2024 in traditional ponds in Sidoarjo, East Java. The results showed thatthe plankton community structure found 37 phytoplankton genera in 3 divisions Chrysophyta,Chlorophyta, and Cyanophyta. The values ranged from 2179-27620 Ind / ml which includedmesotrophic waters, the diversity index ranged from 1.92 - 2.72 in the moderate category, andthe dominance index ranged from 0.27 - 0.45 which was classified as low. Air qualityparameters include temperature 30-31,8oC, brightness 38-41,5 cm, pH 9, dissolved oxygen6,87-8,4 mg/L, salinity 7-9 ppt, alkalinity 141-169 ppm, nitrate 0,87-2,35 mg/L, andorthophosphate 0,02-0,089 mg/L. As aquaculture in traditional ponds, air and soil qualitymanagement should be carried out during the preparation and maintenance of milkfish (Chanoschanos) ponds so that aquaculture management is maintained

Abstract

Fishing vessels are generally made using traditional methods that have been passed down from generation to generation. The characteristics of fishing vessels can be determined from the main dimensions of the vessel, the fishing gear used and the fishing area. This study is needed because inappropriate fishing vessel dimensions can affect the seaworthiness of the vessel and operational efficiency, especially in small-scale fisheries. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the ratio of the main dimensions of the vessel to the types of fishing gear, namely traps and handlines at the Palabuhanratu Archipelago Fisheries Port (PPN). Data in the form of measurements of the length (L), width (B), and height (D) of the vessel were collected in the field, while comparative data were obtained from previous literature. The analysis was carried out by calculating the L/B, L/D, and B/D ratios, then compared with the main dimension ratios of static gear vessels as a reference. The results showed that the L/B ratio of trap vessels ranged from 7.5–10 with an average of 7.93, while handlines were 5–12.5 with an average of 9. The L/D ratios of trap and handlines were respectively 11.5 and 11.83. The B/D ratio of the trap and handline fishing vessels were 1.13-1.63 and 0.57-2.25, respectively. The B/D ratio indicates that there are vessels with values below standard, indicating the potential for less than optimal stability. In general, vessels in PPN Palabuhanratu are still within the standard range, although there are several handline fishing vessels that need more attention regarding their stability design. Improvements in vessel design based on appropriate dimension ratios are expected to increase operational efficiency, safety, and sustaina
