Abstract

Scarlet fever or dengue fever is an infectious disease in the tropics area that is caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito One of the plants which can be utilized as natural larvicide is papaya seeds (Carica papaya L). The wet and dry papaya seeds are used in this research. The papaya seeds contain toxic compounds, they are alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. These compounds can inhibit the growth of Aedes aegypti larvae. This research is quasi-experimental. It aims to find out the effectiveness of the dry and wet papaya (Carica Papaya L) seed solvents with doses of 20 ml / Litre, 30 ml / Litre, 40 ml / Litre 50 ml / Litre, and 60 ml / Litre. The control was exposed to 20 Aedes aegypti larvae at each dose with observations every 60 minutes for 24 hours with the time intervals, the replication was carried out three times.The result shows that the mortality rate of Aedes aegypti larvae in the solvents of dry papaya seeds is the control no one dies (0%) doses of 20 ml can turn off (95%), 30 ml can turn off (100%), 40 ml can turn off (100%), 50 ml can turn off (100%), 60 ml can turn off (100%), , meanwhile, the solvents of wet papaya seeds are the control no one dies (0%) doses of 20 ml can turn off (100%), 30 ml can turn off (100%), 40 ml can turn off (100%), 50 ml can turn off (100%), 60 ml can turn off (100%). In a conclusion, a dose of 20 ml is the most effective dose as a liquid to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Sugestions for the public to use wet papaya seeds as larvicide and for future researchers to use a dip bag and the dose used can be lowered by using wet papaya seeds. Abstract

Waste is waste resulting from activities from households, offices and others. The amount of waste generated nationally is 175,000 tons per day or the equivalent of 64 million tons per year if using environmental assumptions, which can cause various problems including: beauty and comfort as well as human health problems, both within the individual, family and community scope.This research aims to determine the ability of local microorganisms from banana weevils in the household waste composting process to speed up decomposition. The type of research used in this research is a field experiment by carrying out treatment tests three times. The results of the research showed that compost with the addition of 150 ml MOL banana weevils took 20 days for composting, whereas for compost with the addition of 100 ml MOL banana weevils the composting time took 21 days and for compost with the addition of 50 ml MOL banana weevils for 21 days. The length of composting time is greatly influenced by the microorganisms present in the MOL added to the compost. Based on SNI 7030- 2004, the size of the material used for compost maturity requirements such as the C/N ratio has a value of (10-20):1. The conclusion of this research is that banana weevil MOL is able to degrade waste into compost according to SNI standards. From the three tests that have been carried out, the most effective result is the addition of 150ml of banana weevil MOL. It is better for people to use banana weevils as compost and for agricultural purposes because they can degrade waste.

Abstract

Smoking prevalence among Indonesian university students remains alarmingly high, particularly among male students in engineering faculties; however, empirical evidence on the behavioral determinants of cessation motivation in this population is limited. Understanding the interplay between health knowledge, attitudes, and cessation-related actions is critical for designing evidence-based smoking cessation programs tailored to the university context. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between smoking-related behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and actions) and motivation to quit smoking among engineering students at Universitas Pejuang Republik Indonesia. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. A total of 105 active smokers were recruited through purposive sampling from the Faculty of Engineering. Data were collected using a researcher-developed structured questionnaire comprising 40 Likert-scale items across four domains (knowledge, attitudes, actions, and motivation to quit). The instrument was validated through pilot testing (n=30) and demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha: 0.78–0.85). Bivariate analysis was performed using chi-square tests and Fisher’s exact test with a significance level of α=0.05. The majority of respondents demonstrated good knowledge (96.19%), positive attitudes (92.38%), positive actions (77.14%), and high motivation to quit smoking (84.76%). Statistically significant associations were observed between motivation to quit smoking and knowledge (p=0.045; OR=4.89), attitudes (p=0.037; OR=5.23), and actions (p=0.044; OR=2.87). All three behavioral components were significantly associated with motivation to quit smoking. Attitudes demonstrated the strongest association, suggesting that university-based smoking cessation programs should prioritize attitude-modification strategies, such as motivational interviewing and peer support groups, complemented by behavioral skills training and smoke-free campus policies.
