Cultural adaptability in the context of international students' intercultural communication has affected how communication works. Abstract

The urgency for infrastructure development in various regions in Indonesia continues to increase. The increase in population makes population mobility increase. This condition encourages the growth of new business centers in various regions of Indonesia, so that they do not only focus on the islands of Java and Bali. Kalimantan is a promising business center. Kalimantan's attractiveness comes from supporting facilities such as road access, international airports, ports, electricity, railroads, economic and cultural centers, and so on. Development is an intervention effort carried out deliberately and planned with the aim of improving previous living conditions. However, the vulnerability of the development process due to different attitudes from society, intervention from NGOs and other obstacles can make development risky. To understand and assess social risk mitigation, a case study of social potential and risks was carried out. The research locations were carried out in a number of sub-districts in the East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan regions. The aim of this research is to find a model for a communication approach for local government coordination with internal stakeholders, find a model for a communication approach for collaboration between local government and external stakeholders, and state the reasons for strengthening local government relations in mitigating social risks in infrastructure development in the East and South Kalimantan regions.

Abstract

Abstract Reading activities have shifted to social media platforms. Despite Indonesia having a low reading habit worldwide, it is expanding rapidly among millennial and Gen Z bookstagrammers. This study explores the meaning of ‘reading buddy’, motivations for engaging in virtual ‘reading buddy’ activities, emotional intimacy, habits and continuity of virtual communication with reading buddy partners. Using a cyberphenomenology approach, this study involved in-depth, semi-structured interviews with ten (10) Indonesian millennials and Z generation bookstagrammers by applying Barry Wellman's Networked Individualism Theory. This study's cyberphenomenology data analysis technique refers to the coding colour analysis procedure (CCAP). The study results show that a reading buddy is interpreted as a friend who reads books together, a sharing friend, and community outreach activities. It is known that the shift in social interaction from groups to individuals has opened up opportunities for virtual community bookstagrammers on Instagram to create interests that are appropriate for personal networks. In the reading buddy activities carried out, this is believed to enrich the reading experience while improving communication and literacy skills. Instagram is essential in positively impacting interpersonal relationships, personal development, and individual knowledge, especially among the younger generation who like to read books.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the use of diction in Surat untuk Jenaka by Gigrey as a representation of intercultural communication. This novel presents interactions between characters from different cultural and time periods: the colonial (1923) and modern Indonesian period (2019). The research method used is descriptive qualitative with content analysis technique. The focus of the research includes the use of foreign, connotative, and concrete diction that represents intercultural communication dynamics. The results show that the diction in the novel functions not only as an aesthetic element but also as a cultural accommodation strategy. Foreign diction reflects social status, Western culture influence, and is used as a form of convergence to build closeness between characters. Connotative diction reinforces cultural values-social norms, such as gender relations, hierarchy, serving as a means of social criticism. Diction concretely clarifies social roles, boundaries, and relationships between characters within the described cultural context.

Abstract

This study examines the self-identity construction of young adult fans of the Japanese virtual idol Hatsune Miku using a qualitative cyber-phenomenology approach and Berger and Luckmann’s Social Construction of Reality theory. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews. Findings reveal that engagement with Hatsune Miku serves not only as entertainment but also as a source of emotional support, self-reflection, and affiliation within digital communities. Through processes of externalization, objectivation, and internalization, virtual interactions were found to shape a self-identity more closely connected to personal aspirations and social acceptance. All informants reported experiencing stigma linked to cultural stereotypes, such as being labeled wibu or “low nationalist,” which in turn fostered greater tolerance for cultural differences and acceptance of technological innovation. This study highlights the role of virtual idol engagement as a meaningful arena for identity formation and social adaptation in the digital era
