Abstract

This study addresses the issue of low interpersonal communication skills among students, specifically nervousness and lack of confidence, through group guidance services using Game-Based Learning (Werewolf game). The study employed Counseling Action Research (PTBK) conducted in two cycles. The subjects were 12 ninth-grade students (Class IX-E) at SMP Negeri 21 Surabaya, selected via purposive sampling based on low initial scores. There was a significant increase in the students' average activity score from 3.5 in Cycle I to 4.16 in Cycle II. Specifically, students in the "High" interpersonal skill category rose drastically from 20% to 53%. The Werewolf game proved effective in improving interpersonal communication skills as it functions as a social interaction simulator that trains persuasion and impression management, particularly when supported by a conducive (informal) environment.

Abstract

The cultural and traditional diversity found in Indonesia has given rise to various innovations in many fields. One of these is the traditional games of the Nusantara. These games, in relation to guidance and counseling, carry meaningful and relevant social, emotional, and spiritual values in the context of individual development. This study aims to explore the potential of Nusantara games as an alternative medium in a multicultural counseling approach. The research method used is a literature review through literature search, identification and selection of literature, synthesis analysis and evaluation of selected literature, drawing conclusions, and discussing the results of the review. Through a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the integration of Nusantara games in multicultural counseling. Ten Nusantara games were identified, including their general characteristics, related aspects, and effectiveness based on previous research. The findings indicate that Nusantara games have interrelated aspects in individual development, including personal, social, learning, and career aspects. The utilization of Nusantara games is important both as a means of cultural preservation and as a strategic approach in the counseling process. This study has limitations on the variety of games that do not include all kinds of traditional games in Indonesia, and only focuses on the potential and integration of games as a multicultural approach in Guidance and Counseling. The implications of these findings support the integration of Nusantara games as contextual and adaptive facilitators in counseling services.

Abstract

The increasing cultural diversity in social life necessitates that counselors possess adequate multicultural competencies to effectively serve clients from various backgrounds. Considering a client's cultural context is essential to prevent bias and stereotypes, thereby enhancing counselor professionalism when addressing the diversity inherent in each student. This study aims to explore and analyze the importance of multicultural counseling competencies for counselors by reviewing existing literature. The primary objective is to synthesize findings from previous research to highlight key competency frameworks relevant to contemporary practice. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The study analyzed 30 journal articles, consisting of 14 international and 16 national journals from the 2013-2023 period. Literature was obtained through a systematic Google Scholar search using the keyword "Multicultural Counseling Competence." Data analysis involved qualitative synthesis of findings from selected articles. The findings consistently emphasize the critical importance of Multicultural Counseling Competencies (MCC) and the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC). These frameworks are identified as essential, comprehensive packages of multicultural competencies that professional counselors need to work effectively in diverse settings. This study confirms that MCC and MSJCC are fundamental to ethical and effective counseling practice in multicultural contexts. The results serve as a crucial reference for policymakers to formulate evidence-based policies addressing students' needs from diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, the findings provide a valuable foundation for designing counselor training programs, particularly in culturally rich nations like Indonesia, to strengthen professional competence in multicultural counseling.
