Abstract

National Santri Day is an important moment to commemorate the role of santri (Islamic boarding school students) in preserving and developing religious, cultural, and national values. One way to strengthen the character of santri is through activities that support the formation of good personality traits, one of which is theater arts. This study aims to explore the role of theater arts in shaping and honing the character of santri, with a focus on the implementation of theater training during National Santri Day celebrations. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study of several pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) that conducted theater training during National Santri Day. Data were collected through observations, interviews with participants and pesantren administrators, and documentation studies. The findings reveal that theater arts can serve as an effective medium for developing santri character traits such as discipline, teamwork, self-confidence, empathy, and courage. Through role-playing, improvisation, and self-expression, santri gain a deeper understanding of the values taught in pesantren and apply them in their daily lives. Furthermore, theater arts activities provide opportunities for santri to explore their talents and potential, ultimately enriching their spiritual and social experiences. This study concludes that theater training is a strategic effort to strengthen the character of santri in the modern era and can serve as an alternative character education activity that is both enjoyable and beneficial.

Abstract

This study explores the vulnerability of Indonesian women to the crime of human trafficking in Cambodia, analyzing its structural and patriarchal roots. Employing a qualitative methodology through literature review, the paper delineates how socio-economic disparities and limited employment opportunities in Indonesia drive women toward illegal job offers that ultimately result in exploitation. Human trafficking syndicates exploit traditional gender constructs and manipulate identities to entrap victims, even involving women as alleged perpetrators. Criminological and legal analyses reveal a shift toward more complex forms of transnational crime, exacerbated by the use of digital technology. Although the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 21 of 2007 on the Eradication of the Crime of Human Trafficking (hereinafter referred to as the “Human Trafficking Law”) exists, its implementation is hindered by gender-biased law enforcement and a lack of responsiveness, resulting in the double victimization of survivors. Over 60% of trafficking victims are women, yet many of them face criminalization. The concept of human security becomes an illusion as the state fails to provide adequate protection and empowerment. Comprehensive legal reform, a victim-centered approach, and strengthened cross-border cooperation are urgently required to address this issue.

Abstract

Background: People living with HIV may experience persistent physical symptoms, stigma, psychological distress, social disruption, and spiritual concerns despite advances in antiretroviral therapy. Quality of life is a multidimensional patient-reported outcome that complements viral suppression. Objective: To describe quality of life among people living with HIV recruited in Kendari City. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study included 58 participants recruited through closed community or peer-support networks using an anonymous online questionnaire. Quality of life was measured with the 31-item WHOQOL-HIV BREF and summarized using the study’s recorded overall categories: poor, moderate, and good. Demographic characteristics were summarized using frequencies and percentages. No inferential analysis was performed. Results: Poor quality of life was reported by 33 participants (56.9%), moderate quality of life by 14 (24.1%), and good quality of life by 11 (19.0%). Most participants were male (36/58; 62.1%), aged 20–29 years (42/58; 72.4%), and not married (47/58; 81.0%). Marital status was not reported for 6 participants (10.3%). Conclusion: Poor quality of life predominated in this sample. HIV nursing should integrate symptom assessment, mental-health screening, stigma-sensitive communication, adherence support, and social and spiritual care while avoiding assumptions based on sex or marital status. Domain-level WHOQOL-HIV BREF reanalysis is recommended to identify specific priorities.
