Abstract

Health is a state of health, both physically, mentally, spiritually and socially, which enables everyone to live a productive life socially and economically. Public health is a condition that describes the level of health that occurs in society. Society is a group of individuals who live together, work together to obtain common interests and have an order of life, norms and customs that are adhered to in their environment. Public Health is a part of science that discusses and studies the prevention and treatment of disease in each individual. Physiotherapy as a health worker plays a very important role and must have the ability to maximize the potential for movement and function within the promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative scope. Therefore, it is proof that physiotherapy not only plays a curative and rehabilitative role but also plays a big preventive role. Nape pain or neck pain is generally not a serious condition that needs to be watched out for. This condition can heal in a few days or weeks without special treatment. However, neck pain can also occur due to certain diseases. Bending over, looking down for too long, often gritting your teeth, or reading in bed, using a cell phone for a long time can cause the neck muscles to become tense. Over time, this condition will cause Kornik's neck pain, which is a myofascial condition. Smartphones are a real manifestation of technological progress and are devices that work very complexly with access to the internet, social media and games. Excessive smartphone use can cause musculoskeletal disorders. Musculoskeletal disorders associated with smartphone use cause neck muscle fatigue caused by poor posture. Using smartphones for a long time can cause muscle tension. Apart from using smartphones, household activities can also cause neck pain such as ironing and washing. Providing exercise therapy in the form of Free Active Movement can reduce complaints of neck pain.

Abstract

Chronic kidney failure is a serious health problem that not only attacks adults, but can also develop since childhood. One of the main risk factors is unhealthy living habits, including lack of personal hygiene, consumption of unhealthy food, and minimal physical activity. In order to increase awareness regarding the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle among children, health education efforts are needed from an early age, especially in schools as an environment where children spend a lot of time. Many children do not understand the relationship between personal hygiene, diet and kidney health. Based on the results of interviews with teachers and school health staff, there are several unhealthy behaviors among students, such as rarely washing their hands, excessive consumption of sweet drinks, and low daily physical activity. In addition, only a few students understand the importance of maintaining hydration and adequate water intake for kidney health. This outreach activity will be carried out in several stages, including counseling about the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle, demonstrations teaching correct hand washing and distribution of leaflets about information on a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Public Health is a part of science that discusses and studies the prevention and treatment of diseases in each individual. Some disease conditions found in the community are complaints of knee pain and back pain. The knee pain that is commonly found is Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, suffered by millions of people worldwide. It is a degenerative joint disease that affects many joint tissues. This problem arises when the protective cartilage at the ends of bones deteriorates over time. Osteoarthritis is usually experienced in the age of 40-60 years. This is due to the advanced age of the degeneration process. In addition to Osteoarthritis, diseases of the shoulder are also found, such as spasm and Triger Point in the upper trapezius muscle. One of the interventions or modalities provided by infrared or infrared physiotherapy. Infrared is one of the Physiotherapy modalities in providing services to patients with the aim of causing relaxation effects and decreasing pain. Infrared is a peacock wave that can relieve pain and stiffness in joints and muscles. The process of vasodilation of blood vessels produced by infrared rays can accelerate the removal of several pain-stimulating chemicals including bradykinin, serotonin, histamine, and proteolytic enzymes. As well as prostaglandins and substance P which increase the sensitivity of the ends of pain fibers, so that in the end infrared can reduce pain intensity. In addition to being given Physiotherapy Interventions also provide Socialization or counseling to the community in accordance with the conditions complained of. Providing explanations related to the conditions or complaints of each community by providing education and home programs.

Abstract

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a condition characterized by muscle or fascia pain, involving sensory, motor, or autonomic functions, linked to myofascial trigger points (MTrPs). Motor symptoms can include muscle weakness, limited movement, and stiffness. Sensory symptoms may involve tenderness, referred pain, hyperalgesia, or allodynia, while autonomic symptoms include sweating, changes in skin temperature, and salivation. MPS occurs due to increased sympathetic nervous system activity, which worsens pain. Physical therapy is vital in improving movement and function, with Active Exercise Therapy being a recommended treatment. MPS affects 36% of 431 patients, with pain intensity often developing within a week, and in Indonesia, it reaches 40% within a year. MPS is more common in females than males. Active Exercise Therapy, which can be performed at home or work, is essential for preventing MPS. On July 31, 2025, a community service activity was held at RT VIII Tanjung Mas Village, Semarang Utara, with 29 participants. The event included blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, BMI measurements, and counseling on the importance of exercise therapy to prevent muscle fatigue, particularly in the neck area. The therapy, focusing on improving tendon and ligament strength and muscle strength, helps maintain joint stability and increase the range of motion. Strength training includes isotonic exercises and progressive resistance training, tailored to each individual's needs. The event provided education on managing muscle pain and fatigue through targeted exercise routines and home programs. These initiatives emphasize muscle recovery, physical health, and overall wellness, ensuring participants can manage and prevent MPS effectively. The event highlighted the critical role of regular physical activity in improving quality of life and preventing long-term musculoskeletal pain.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a painful cramping or aching sensation in the lower abdomen, often radiating to the lower back, hips, and thighs. This condition significantly affects daily activities, limiting women’s physical and academic performance, particularly among female students who frequently experience dysmenorrhea during menstruation. Various interventions can help prevent or reduce the prevalence and severity of dysmenorrhea, including specific physical exercises such as McKenzie exercises and Kegel exercises. McKenzie exercises focus on strengthening and mobilizing the lower back and abdominal muscles, whereas Kegel exercises target the pelvic floor muscles to enhance circulation and reduce uterine tension. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in effectiveness between Kegel exercises and McKenzie exercises in alleviating dysmenorrhea pain among adolescents aged 12–15 years at SMP Negeri 28 Semarang. The study employed an experimental two-group pre-posttest design with a total sample of 22 female students who met the inclusion criteria. The Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) technique was used to assign participants to the intervention groups. Pain intensity was measured using the Quadruple Visual Analog Scale (QVAS) both before and after the interventions, which were administered three times per week over a three-week period. The results showed a statistically significant reduction in pain for both groups, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating that both McKenzie and Kegel exercises effectively decreased dysmenorrhea pain. The study concluded that there is a measurable difference in the effectiveness of these two exercise interventions, emphasizing the importance of selecting appropriate physical exercises tailored to adolescent students for dysmenorrhea management. These findings provide evidence-based guidance for educators, healthcare providers, and adolescents seeking non-pharmacological strategies to reduce menstrual pain and improve quality of life.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders and significantly impacts functional activities and patients’ quality of life. Non-pharmacological approaches such as hydrotherapy and William flexion exercise are widely used to reduce pain. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of combining hydrotherapy and William flexion exercise on reducing pain in patients with myogenic low back pain. Methods: This research applied a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 20 respondents aged 40–60 years who met the inclusion criteria. The intervention was conducted over 12 sessions within one month at Biara OSF Magdalena Daemen BSB. Pain levels were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test. Results: The findings revealed a significant reduction in pain levels. The mean pretest score of 43.36 increased to 79.45 in the posttest with a difference of 36.09 points. Statistical testing showed p = 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating that the combination of hydrotherapy and William flexion exercise had a significant effect on reducing low back pain. Hydrotherapy contributed to muscle relaxation and improved circulation, while William flexion exercise strengthened lumbar flexor muscles. Conclusion: The combination of hydrotherapy and William flexion exercise is effective in reducing myogenic low back pain. This approach can be considered a safe, applicable, and beneficial non-pharmacological rehabilitation strategy to improve patients’ quality of life.

Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders in the elderly, characterized by progressive degeneration of articular cartilage, chronic pain, joint stiffness, and reduced functional capacity. In Indonesia, the prevalence of knee osteoarthritis is notably high, affecting over 30% of individuals aged above 60 years. This condition leads to significant health burdens, impaired quality of life, and increased economic costs. Non-pharmacological management strategies such as hydrotherapy and quadriceps exercise are widely recommended to relieve pain and improve joint function. Hydrotherapy utilizes the physical properties of water including buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, viscosity, and warmth to reduce joint loading, enhance circulation, and promote relaxation. Quadriceps exercise, on the other hand, focuses on strengthening the quadriceps muscle to stabilize the knee joint, thereby reducing pain and improving functionality. The combination of these two interventions is expected to provide greater benefits than a single modality. Research Design: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach on 12 elderly respondents with knee osteoarthritis at OSF Magdalena Daemen BSB Convent. Pain was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention, which consisted of hydrotherapy and quadriceps exercise administered twice a week for four weeks. Results: The findings showed a decrease in the mean pain score from 4.42 to 3.08, with the Wilcoxon test yielding p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in pain levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: The combination of hydrotherapy and quadriceps exercise is effective in reducing pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
