Abstract

This article discusses the existence, characteristics and challenges of digital literacy, focusing on the results of research on UIT Lirboyo Kediri santri-students. Digital literacy is an actual theme that is widely researched about measuring and examining the phenomenon of digital literacy in society. One thing that needs to be targeted for research is the digital literacy of students. Research on this theme is important to see the phenomenon of digital literacy in Islamic boarding schools. This research focuses on several things, (1) existence, (2) characteristics, and (3) challenges of digital literacy among santri-students. The method used in this research is qualitative, with informants from students as the primary source and central object of research. This research found that digital literacy among santri-students is quite strong and varied, especially related to things that are the duties of a santri who is also a college student, such as the need to fulfil assignments. The characteristics of student digital literacy are also quite varied, such as efficient and appropriate values, explorative, communicative and skill processing.

Abstract

This article aims to provide an insightful examination of strategies for addressing anxiety disorder based on interpretations of the Qur’an. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anxiety is alarmingly high, with 9,162,886 reported cases of depression in the past two years alone. Given the Qur’an’s revered status as a guidance book, exploring its teachings on anxiety is essential to address this pressing issue. Employing a qualitative research approach focused on a literature review, this study draws from various sources, including scholarly books and articles. The research outcomes highlight several theoretical frameworks derived from the Qur’an for tackling anxiety, such as (1) mindfulness—a meditative therapy aimed at clearing the mind of negative experiences and redirecting focus toward positivity; (2) cognitive therapy—recalibrating one’s mindset toward optimistic perspectives, and (3) fostering resilient attitudes by steadfastly confronting adversities.Keyword: Anxiety Disorder; al-Qur’an; Exegesis

Abstract

This article aims to explore Hakim al-Jushamī, a Mutazilite mufassir from the late period, through a biographical analysis, as well as to delve into his exegetical ideas. He is recognized as a trailblazer in Islamic thought, particularly within the Mu’tazila school, and has made significant contributions to the field of tafsir (Quranic exegesis). His persona is regarded as the bridge reinstating the interrupted scholarly lineage between Zamakhsharī and the earlier commentators of tafsir. His principal contribution to the field of tafsir is al-Tahdhīb fi al-Tafsīr, a compilation that amalgamates the diverse viewpoints of Mu’tazila scholars whose narratives are not documented in other works. This article is centered on two primary objectives: (1) A biographical analysis of Jushamī within the context of Mu’tazila scholarship. (2) An examination of Jushamī in his capacity as a Mu’tazila mufassir and scholar. The research employs a qualitative methodology, adopting a biographical study approach through a literature review. The research employs data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion as its analytical techniques. The research analysis encompasses an examination of the individual in the socio-historical context and a critique of Mu’tazila philosophy and tafsir (Quranic exegesis) as manifested in his works. The findings revealed that: (1) Jushamī’s life, from a socio-historical perspective, exhibits a close association with Mu’tazila and positions him as an integral component of the Mu’tazila intellectual lineage that connects Zamakhsharī to earlier scholars. (2) His diverse body of work is primarily centered on advocating and defending the Mu’tazila doctrine. (3) Jushamī is regarded as a representation of the concluding era of Mu’tazila mufassirs before the group eventually vanished.

Abstract

This article explores the origins and genealogy of kalam thought in the Commentary of al-Ibrīz by Bisri Mustofa. The tradition of writing interpretations of the Qur'an is described as a cross-generational literary heritage. The written commentaries (Tafseer) will not be separated from the influence of previous works of interpretation, and the works of interpretation will likely influence future works of interpretation, including Tafsir al-Ibrīz, a complete Tafsir al-Qur'an of 30 chapters written in Javanese using the Pegon Arabic script in the mid-20th century AD. This article examines the genealogy of kalam thought in al-Ibrīz by tracing the sources of kalam interpretation from other interpretations to find the origins of the idea of kalam. Using qualitative research methods and library research techniques, this study tries to examine al-Ibrīz's relationship with past Commentary works and how the addition of the author's kalām thoughts can be done by adding, omitting, or summarizing kalām's interpretation of the verse under study. It was found that from the point of view of kalām thinking, al-Ibrīz has many connections with earlier Commentary works such as Tafsīr Jalālayn, Tafsīr Khāzin, and Tafsīr Bayḍāwiī to the earliest works of exegesis such as Tafsīr Māturīdī and Tafsīr Ṭabarī. Genealogi Pemikiran Kalām pada Tafsir al-Ibrīz. Tulisan ini menelaah tentang genealogi dan akar pemikiran kalām dalam tafsir al-Ibrīz karya Bisri Mustofa. Tradisi penulisan tafsir al-Qur’an, di mana pun dan kapan pun tafsir itu muncul, dicirikan sebagai tradisi sastra lintas generasi. Artinya satu karya tafsir yang ditulis tak akan terlepas dari pengaruh karya tafsir sebelumnya, serta kemungkinan besar sekali karya tafsir tersebut memberi pengaruh terhadap karya tafsir di masa mendatang. Hal ini termasuk pula tafsir al-Ibrīz, karya tafsir al-Quran 30 juz lengkap yang ditulis dalam Bahasa Jawa menggunakan tulisan arab pegon yang muncul pada pertengahan abad 20 M. Artikel ini mengulas genealogi pemikiran kalām dalam al-Ibrīz dengan melacak sumber-sumber penafsiran kalām dari tafsir-tafsir lain yang menjadi sumber utama tafsir sehingga mungkin ditemukan asal mula pemikiran kalām tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik penelitian pustaka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melacak koneksi al-Ibrīz dengan karya-karya tafsir sebelumnya serta bagaimana kontribusi pengarang terhadap pemikiran kalām yang mungkin dilakukan dengan cara menambah, mengurangi atau meringkas tafsir kalām pada ayat yang diteliti. Ditemukan bahwa dalam pemikiran kalam, al-Ibrīz memiliki banyak koneksi dengan tafsir-tafsir yang lebih awal seperti Tafsīr Jalālayn, Tafsīr Khāzin dan Tafsīr Bayḍāwī hingga karya tafsir masa paling awal seperti Tafsīr Māturīdī dan Tafsīr Ṭabarī.

Abstract

Akhism, which flourished in Anatolia from the 13th to the 20th century, was a distinctive socio-economic and moral organization grounded in the ethical teachings of the Qur’an, Hadith, and Sufism. Beyond functioning as a guild for artisans, it served as a social and moral institution that fostered integrity, solidarity, and justice within the community. This study aims to examine how Qur’anic values shaped the ideological foundations and social functions of Akhism within the Ottoman context. Employing a qualitative approach with a cultural-historical focus, the research draws upon diverse sources, including historical documents, Fütüvvetnâme texts, the Qur’an, Hadith, and other records relevant to Akhism. The researcher acts as the primary instrument, applying data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques to interpret findings. The analysis reveals that Akhism represented a dynamic synthesis of Qur’anic ethics and Sufi spirituality, operating simultaneously as a moral compass and a social regulator. This study finds that Akhism exemplifies how scriptural values can sustain social harmony, ethical discipline, and cultural resilience within medieval Turkish society. Contribution: This study contributes to understanding the embodiment of Qur’anic ethics in socio-economic structures, offering Akhism as a historical model of Islamic ethical praxis in public life.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the influence of hermeneutics in the theory of double movement. This theory is a new interpretive methodology initiated by Fazlurrahman in response to modernization. In addition, dissatisfaction with the methodology of classical scholarly exegesis is also the reason for this idea. After tracing this theory, it is found that there are several hermeneutic schools behind this theory. Therefore, in the implementation of the double movement theory, controversial legal products are often produced considering that in hermeneutics there is no definite law. While in Islam there are rules that are definite and cannot change the law. With this critical analysis-style research, it is hoped that we can understand and assess the effectiveness of the double movement theory in the treasures of contemporary interpretation.

Abstract

This article will discuss the method used throughout al-Tahdhīb fī al-Tafsīr by Ḥākim al-Jushamī, one of the most prominent interpreters of the Muʿtazilah school. The discussion in this article will center on a variety of topics, including Ḥākim al-Jushamī biography, his works, general information on al-Tahdhīb fi al-Tafsir, systematics of interpretation, reference materials, and the methodology behind his interpretation. The objective of this article is to introduce the interpretation of al-Tahdhīb, to explore the nature and technique of Muʿtazilah’s interpretation in the Middle Ages in general and Jushamī’s interpretation in particular. This study employs a qualitative approach based on library research to focus on the major source of al-Tahdhīb fi al-Tafsīr’s as well as a variety of supplementary materials pertinent to the topic under discussion. Jushamī was a Muʿtazilah scholar who lived in the school’s final moments before its ruination. He is also a theologian of interpreters with a reputation for profound knowledge and one of Zamakhsharī’s teachers. The book of al-Tahdhīb is an Arabic commentary that discusses the entire 30 juz of the Qurʾān in 10 volumes, in the sequence of the Muṣḥaf. This commentary is one of the commentaries written by Muʿtazilah scholars that is available to us in its entirety. Jushamī described the passages of the Qurʾān based on the understanding of the Muʿtazilah school in his interpretation. The sources of interpretation in al-Tahdhīb include the narrations from the ṣaḥābah, the tabiʿūn, the tābiʿ al-tabiʿīn and scholars, especially the Muʿtazilah scholars. Among the methods of interpretation in al-Tahdhīb were the Interpretation of verse by verse, interpretation by hadith, the use of the narration of Isrāiliyāt, explanation of fiqh, kalam, and tasawuf issues, and the munāsabah method.

Abstract

Dalam konteks pendidikan Islam di Indonesia, madrasah memegang peran penting sebagai lembaga yang tidak hanya mentransfer ilmu pengetahuan, tetapi juga membina moral peserta didik. Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Al-Mahrusiyyah, sebagai salah satu lembaga pendidikan Islam, dihadapkan pada tantangan serta peluang yang muncul seiring dengan pesatnya perkembangan informasi dan meningkatnya tuntutan terhadap standar mutu pendidikan. Untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikannya, sekolah ini sangat bergantung pada berbagai aspek, salah satunya adalah manajemen pendidikan yang efektif, terutama yang dipimpin oleh kepala madrasah. Peningkatan kualitas pendidikan di madrasah ini sangat dipengaruhi oleh kompetensi para pendidiknya, yang secara yuridis diakui sebagai tenaga profesional dengan kewajiban memenuhi standar kualifikasi akademik dan empat kompetensi utama: kompetensi pedagogis, profesional, sosial, dan kepribadian. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif analitis yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan dan menganalisis manajemen pendidikan di MTs Al-Mahrusiyyah dalam upaya meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan dan profesionalisme pendidik. Berdasarkan temuan lapangan serta analisis terhadap data hasil wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, strategi kepala madrasah dalam meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran melalui penguatan kompetensi guru dilaksanakan secara sistematis dengan merujuk pada kerangka manajemen strategis William F. Glueck, yang mencakup: (1) formulasi strategi, yakni perumusan arah, tujuan, dan prioritas peningkatan kompetensi; (2) implementasi strategi melalui program-program konkret yang terencana dan terukur; serta (3) evaluasi strategi yang berkelanjutan untuk menilai capaian, mengidentifikasi kesenjangan, dan melakukan perbaikan. Di sisi lain, MTs Al-Mahrusiyah menghadapi hambatan yang bersifat multidimensional, yang teridentifikasi dari berbagai pemangku kepentingan dan mencakup faktor internal maupun eksternal, sehingga menuntut penguatan koordinasi, penyesuaian kebijakan, dan optimalisasi sumber daya agar inisiatif peningkatan mutu pembelajaran dapat berjalan efektif dan berkelanjutan.
