Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ participation and learning outcomes in mathematics, particularly on plane geometry material, through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model supported by visual media. The research was conducted at SD Negeri 108/IV Kota Jambi involving 24 fifth-grade students using Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The initial condition showed low student participation (51.3%) and low learning mastery (47.4%), indicating the need for instructional improvement. In Cycle I, the application of PBL with visual media began to show positive results, with student participation increasing to 68.4% and learning mastery reaching 63.2%, although it had not yet met the success criteria. Improvements were then made in Cycle II by optimizing group work, instructions, and the use of visual media. The results showed a significant increase in student participation to 86.8% (very good category), followed by improved learning outcomes that met the expected mastery criteria. These findings indicate that the implementation of the PBL model combined with visual media effectively enhances both student participation and learning outcomes in learning plane geometry. Therefore, this approach can be used as an alternative strategy to create more active, meaningful, and effective learning in elementary mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an mathematics learning media based on the traditional game bekel for whole number material in lower grade elementary school students. The research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model consisting of analysis, design, and development stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and validation questionnaires involving experts in material, media, and language. The results of the analysis show that the learning process still relies on conventional media and lacks interactive elements, causing low student engagement. The developed product is designed using storyboard and includes bekel tools and instructional cards. Validation results indicate that the developed media meets validity criteria and is feasible to be tested further. This study concludes that the developed media has good validity and potential to support mathematics learning.

Abstract

This research discusses the importance of learning evaluation in forming the character of students in elementary schools. This research was carried out by conducting a literature study. This research aims to describe the importance of learning evaluation in forming the character of students in elementary schools. Based on research results, evaluation plays an important role in determining whether learning is effective or not and whether or not educational goals are achieved. Teachers can learn more about students' abilities, learning difficulties, and their position in relation to their peers with the help of evaluation. In Elementary Schools, character education and learning evaluation are adapted to the cognitive abilities of elementary school students. Character education is a method for instilling character values ​​in students at school. These values ​​include knowledge, awareness or will, as well as actions to practice these values, whether they originate from God Almighty, ourselves, other people, the environment, or the nation, so that we can become perfect human beings. Teachers can make professional decisions about how to improve learning through evaluation. Evaluation should be carried out throughout the learning process, not just at the end of learning. Educators can obtain accurate information about students' abilities so they can make the right decisions in learning by carrying out an appropriate and comprehensive evaluation.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools aims to help students develop a meaningful understanding of mathematical concepts. However, fractions are often considered difficult for young learners because they involve abstract concepts that are not easily connected to students’ real-life experiences. One instructional approach that can facilitate conceptual understanding is the Concrete–Pictorial– Abstract (CPA) approach. The CPA approach guides students through three stages of learning: using concrete objects, visual representations, and abstract mathematical symbols. This study aimed to develop a Student Worksheet (LKPD) based on the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach for fraction material in Grade II elementary school and to determine its validity and practicality. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The participants were second-grade students of SDN 55/I Sridadi. Data were collected through validation sheets completed by material, media, and language experts, as well as questionnaires administered to teachers and students. The results showed that the developed worksheet achieved a validity score of 94% from the material expert, 84% from the media expert, and 82% from the language expert, all categorized as highly valid. The practicality test revealed positive responses from students and teachers, with student responses reaching 87.33% and teacher responses reaching 87.3%, both categorized as highly practical. The findings indicate that the CPA-based worksheet is valid and practical for supporting mathematics learning on fractions in Grade II elementary school.
