Abstract

Mental health has become a critical issue in higher education, particularly in relation to the academic demands faced by students. This study aims to describe the level of mental health among students in coping with academic demands using a quantitative descriptive approach. The study subjects were 55 active students from various faculties at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan, selected using a combination of stratified random sampling and convenience sampling techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of 20 items on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicate that the majority of students (52.7%) fall into the “Fairly Healthy” category, with an overall average score of 62.00 (SD = 10.78). However, 21.8% of students fall into the “Unhealthy” to “Very Unhealthy” categories, indicating a concerning prevalence of mental health conditions. The most dominant academic stressor was pressure related to the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) target (mean = 2.98), followed by sleep disturbances (mean = 2.93) and lack of rest time due to a packed class schedule (mean = 2.91). Emotionally, students exhibited an ambivalent profile: relatively adequate social support (mean = 3.75), yet they experienced significant academic anxiety (mean = 2.40) and difficulty concentrating (mean = 2.35). These findings suggest that students’ mental health issues are not solely caused by the volume of coursework, but are more significantly influenced by systemic psychological pressures. Higher education institutions are recommended to develop proactive mental health services, review the curriculum workload, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health on campus.

Abstract

The utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based chatbots in education is steadily increasing and holds the potential to support student self-regulated learning. This study aims to determine the effect of AI chatbot usage intensity on the independent learning capabilities of Mathematics Education students. The research implemented a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 40 respondents. Data were gathered through a questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale, ranging from Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, to Strongly Disagree. Prior to regression analysis, the data were subjected to classical assumption tests. The normality test results showed a Test Statistic value of 0.129 with a significance level of 0.091 (> 0.05), indicating that the data were normally distributed. The linearity test results revealed a significance value on Deviation from Linearity of 0.159 (> 0.05) and a significance value on Linearity of 0.000 (< 0.05), which confirms a linear relationship between the intensity of AI chatbot usage and student independent learning. Consequently, all prerequisites for regression analysis were fully met. The simple linear regression analysis findings demonstrated that the intensity of AI chatbot usage has a significant effect on the independent learning of Mathematics Education students, obtaining a regression coefficient value (β) of 0.417, a t-value = 4.261, and a coefficient of determination () of 0.323. These findings indicate that the intensity of AI chatbot usage contributes 32.3% to the variation in students' independent learning, suggesting that this platform can be optimized as a digital tool to enhance student independent learning in the digital era.

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a common behavior among university students characterized by delaying the completion of academic tasks, which may adversely affect their psychological well-being, particularly academic stress. Although numerous studies have examined the relationship between academic procrastination and academic stress, the findings remain inconsistent, indicating the need for further investigation in different educational contexts and student populations. This study aimed to examine the effect of academic procrastination on the academic stress levels of students in the Mathematics Education Study Program at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey design. The sample consisted of 40 students selected through a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires measuring academic procrastination and academic stress. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results revealed that the significance value was 0.773, which exceeded the significance level of 0.05, while the calculated t value (0.290) was lower than the critical t value (2.024). These findings indicate that academic procrastination does not have a statistically significant effect on the academic stress levels of Mathematics Education students at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan. The findings further suggest that academic stress is influenced not only by academic procrastination but also by other factors, including time management skills, coping strategies, learning motivation, social support, and individual characteristics. Therefore, efforts to reduce academic stress should adopt a comprehensive approach by considering the multiple factors that contribute to students' psychological well-being.
