Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a frequently encountered degenerative disease. Indonesia, being one of the most populous countries, experiences a notable increase in the global prevalence of diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes mellitus constitutes the most prevalent form, with approximately 90-95% of diabetics falling into this category. Notably, patient compliance in Indonesia falls short of meeting the recommended glycemia target. The root cause of this non-compliance is linked to a lack of understanding among individuals with diabetes mellitus regarding the purpose of therapy, leading to a lack of awareness about potential complications. This research aims to explore the connection between patient characteristics and adherence to medication in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Tiban Baru Health Center in Batam City. Employing a descriptive correlation approach with a prospective cross-sectional research design, the study utilized purposive sampling, including 92 patients meeting the inclusion criteria. Data collection involved the administration of a compliance questionnaire (MMAS). The study's conclusion reveals a significant association between job characteristics and medication adherence in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, evidenced by a p-value of 0.046. Conversely, factors such as gender, age, education, duration of suffering, and comorbidities were not found to be correlated with medication adherence (p-value > 0.05). It is anticipated that healthcare professionals at the Tiban Baru Health Center will impart accurate information to patients, enhancing their awareness of the potential complications associated with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Green mussels are organisms belonging to the class pelecypoda, this class has two bilaterally symmetric valve shells, these green mussels are referred to as bivalves, and are included in the soft-bodied marine biota (Mollusca). This study aims to determine the bioactive compounds and toxicity contained in the shells of green mussels (Perna viridis) which are processed seafood typical of the Riau Islands. Secondary metabolite screening tests include alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids and terpenoids as for toxicity tests using the BSLT (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test) method with shrimp larvae (Artemia salina Leach) test animals. The results of secondary metabolite screening on the test for alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids and terpenoids were declared negative while the saponin test was positive with the formation of stable foam. The results of the BSLT toxicity test (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test) with concentrations of 10 ppm, 100 ppm, and 1000 ppm obtained LC50 <1000 g/ml, which is 1127.28 ppm in the non-toxic category. In the sense that it is safe to be used as processed food.

Abstract

Nyireh plant (Xylocarpus granatum J. Koenig) is a mangrove plant that can usually grow in tidal areas, river embankments, and along rivers. This plant is believed to be a traditional medicine in dealing with diarrhea disorders, wound cleansers and sun protectors. This study aims to determine the antibacterial and antifungal activity of the ethanol extract of nyireh leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Sthapylococcus aureus and Candida albicans fungi. Nyireh leaf extract was prepared using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. In testing the antibacterial and antifungal activity using the disc diffusion method with a concentration of 2%, 4%, 6%, positive control for bacteria (Tetracycline) positive control for fungi (Ketoconazole) and negative control (DMSO 5%). Research on the antibacterial and antifungal activity test of ethanol extract of nyireh leaves produced a strong inhibitory power at a concentration of 6%. In Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria concentration of 6% with an average concentration of 17.05 mm, Sthapylococcus aureus bacteria with an average concentration of 6% with an average of 22.95 mm and Candida albicans fungi at a concentration of 6% with an average of 11.88 mm. Potential as antibacterial and antifungal against the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Sthapylococcus aureus and the fungus Candida albicans.
