Abstract

Snail Gong-gong (Strombus Turturella) is a typical food of the people of Riau Islands. The processed food produces the waste of a well-utilized shell. The main composition of the gong-gong slug is calcium carbonate (CaCO3). With the content of calcium, the waste shell of gong-gong can be used as raw material for the preparation of pharmaceutical preparations such as suction tablets. This study aims to obtain the formulation of a lozenges from the waste of gong-gong shell with good physical properties. A lozenges is made by a method of wet granulation in three formulas with variations in the concentrations of the case of the F1 gong-gong 15%, F2 30%, and F3 45%. The granules and tablets are evaluated. The results of the granule evaluation showed that the granule produced from the three formulas has fulfilled the requirements, the results of the tablet evaluation showed on organoleptic test, size uniformity, hardness, disintegration time of all three formulas have fulfilled good lozenges requirements. While the weight uniformity of F1 is not eligible, the friability test F1 and F2 are not eligible. The results of this study showed that the gong-gong snail shells can be formulated into a lozenges and have good physical properties.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the formulation and stability of cashew leaf extract cream (Anacardium occidentale Linn) as the active ingredient. The research method includes cashew leaf sampling, plant identification, leaf preparation, extraction, phytochemical screening, cream preparation, cream evaluation, and physical stability testing. Phytochemical screening results indicate the presence of tannins, flavonoids, and saponins in the cashew leaf extract. The cream formulation of cashew leaf extract was prepared using concentrations of 6%, 10%, and 14%. Cream evaluation includes organoleptic aspects, cream type, spreadability, pH, viscosity, and physical stability testing. The research findings show that creams containing cashew leaf extract at different concentrations and stored for 4 weeks at room temperature, low temperature, and 40°C demonstrate relatively stable physical stability. Statistical analysis has been conducted on the evaluation results, and the findings will be discussed in detail. This research concludes that cashew leaf extract cream formulations exhibit good physical stability during the tested storage period. These findings provide a better understanding of the formulation and stability of creams containing cashew leaf extract, which can serve as a basis for the development of more effective and stable pharmaceutical products in the future.

Abstract

Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) are commonly encountered, particularly among tuberculosis (TB) patients undergoing long-term therapy involving multiple drug combinations. Monitoring ADRs is essential to ensure treatment safety and enhance patients' quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of ADRs in pulmonary TB patients undergoing treatment at a public health center (Puskesmas) in Batam City. An observational study with a cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 58 newly diagnosed pulmonary TB patients in the intensive treatment phase who met the inclusion criteria participated as respondents. These criteria included being in late adolescence to late elderly age, willingness to participate, and having complete medical records. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and medical record reviews, and analyzed using the Naranjo algorithm to assess the likelihood of ADRs being related to anti-TB medication use. The results showed that most respondents were male (72.41%), predominantly within the productive age group. All patients received the RHZE regimen. The most frequently reported adverse effects were reddish discoloration of urine (100%), joint pain (19%), and gastrointestinal disturbances (15.5%). Based on the Naranjo algorithm, the majority of cases were classified as “Probable” (62.07%). These findings highlight the importance of systematic ADR monitoring and patient education to support treatment success.

Abstract

Infertility due to ovulatory disorders presents a significant challenge in reproductive health, with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) being one of the leading causes. Metformin has been widely used in clinical practice to manage ovulatory dysfunction in women with PCOS, either as monotherapy or in combination with other therapeutic approaches. This narrative review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of metformin on clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and live birth rate (LBR) through a critical appraisal of nine scientific publications published in the past ten years. Relevant literature was gathered through the PubMed database using selected keywords and screened based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings indicate that metformin provides beneficial effects on improving CPR, particularly when used as an adjunct therapy prior to IVF protocols or in combination with non-pharmacological approaches such as acupuncture. However, evidence related to LBR demonstrates greater variability. Overall, these findings support the role of metformin as part of an individualized, evidence-based fertility treatment strategy. This review offers important clinical implications for optimizing infertility management in women with PCOS.
