Abstract

The development of built-up land in Southwest Maluku Regency (MBD) has been steadily increasing each year, as evidenced by the analysis of land cover changes in 2012, 2017, and 2022. Understanding the development and changes in land cover is crucial for predicting future land cover patterns and for preventing or mitigating potential negative impacts. This study aims to analyze the land cover changes in the Southwest Maluku Regency. The analysis of land cover changes in Southwest Maluku Regency was conducted using Landsat 4-5 TM, Landsat 8 OLI, and SPOT 7 imagery, which involved pre-processing and land cover classification processes based on the SNI 7645:2010 standard. The results of the study indicate that built-up land in MBD is generally concentrated in the Moa Lakor District, Letti Island District, and Terselatan Islands District. Tiakur Village has experienced the most rapid development of built-up land in MBD, as it is the capital of the Southwest Maluku Regency.

Abstract

The geographical conditions of Moa Lakor District, Southwest Maluku Regency, located within the Ring of Fire, with relatively flat topography and high population density in coastal areas, make Moa Lakor District highly susceptible to tsunami disasters in Maluku Province. This study aims to map the physical conditions of the region in an effort to mitigate tsunami disasters in Moa Lakor District, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku Province. The physical condition data used in this study include land elevation, slope gradient, and distance from the coast. These three variables were assigned scores and weights, which were then overlaid to produce a tsunami hazard map and identify affected built-up areas. The results indicate that the high tsunami hazard class covers 65.35% of the area, totaling 23,534.71 hectares. The medium hazard class covers 7,852.43 hectares or 21.80%, and the low hazard class covers 4,627.39 hectares or 12.85%. The built-up land predicted to be in the high hazard zone covers 738.33 hectares, in the medium hazard zone covers 162.98 hectares, and in the low hazard zone covers 56.52 hectares.

Abstract

Monitoring land surface temperature in Buru Regency using geospatial technology based on Google Earth Engine cloud computing can help in understanding climate and weather changes on a global scale, as well as provide essential information for scientists, governments, and non-governmental organizations in making decisions related to climate change mitigation and disaster management. This study aims to analyze land surface temperature in Buru Regency using MODIS satellite imagery data based on Google Earth Engine cloud computing. The research utilizes Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Terra Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity 8-Day Global data, accessed and analyzed through Google Earth Engine. The lowest land surface temperature in Buru Regency is 12.7438°C, and the highest is 31.9582°C. The area with very high land surface temperature (LST) covers 96,604.46 hectares, or 19.90%; high LST covers 139,606.47 hectares or 28.76%; medium LST covers 140,853.38 hectares, or 29.02%; low LST covers 79,896.56 hectares, or 16.46%, and very low LST covers 28,458.57 hectares or 5.86%. The analysis of land surface temperature in Buru Regency can provide crucial information for the local government in policy-making and planning for sustainable regional development.

Abstract

This study explores the issue of waste disposal along the banks of the Durian River in Masohi City, Maluku, and analyzes the factors influencing community behaviour related to the river. With a descriptive qualitative approach, the research highlights the need for more awareness and concern among the community and the insufficient government response to the issue—the study through observations, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that addressing the waste disposal problem along the Durian River in Masohi City requires collaboration and concrete actions. The government needs to enforce strict policies and impose firm penalties for violations. Relevant institutions should actively monitor the river, implement regular cleanup programs, and support community initiatives. Public education, the development of controlled facilities, and recycling are critical factors in waste management. The environment along the Durian River can become clean and sustainable by monitoring waste management programs and fostering cooperation between the government, institutions, and the community. Concrete measures, such as penalties, cleanup programs, and education, must be carried out collectively to change community behaviour and culture.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of poultry farming on environmental sanitation in Leahari Village, Leitimur Selatan District, Ambon City. The research uses a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach, where data is collected through observation, interviews, and documentation study. The findings show that poultry farming in Leahari Village provides positive impacts on the local economy, such as creating job opportunities and supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, poultry farming also leads to negative impacts such as air, water, and soil pollution due to improper waste management. Ammonia gas from chicken manure causes air pollution, while liquid waste contaminates groundwater and soil. To address this, the study suggests the implementation of biogas technology for waste management, educating the community about waste management, and strengthening regulations and government supervision. This research provides recommendations for improving the management of poultry farming waste to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
