Abstract

In the aluminum casting process, the resulting cast product still has defects that affect the quality of mechanical properties, so it is necessary to perform the final processing by electrolysis with nickel-chromium. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of nickel-chromium coating on the results of used aluminum casting products with electrical voltages of 5, 7.5, 9 volts and times of 5, 10, 15 seconds. From the test results, it is shown that at electrical voltage of 5 and 7.5 volts with time of 5, 10, 15 seconds and at electrical voltage of 9 volts with time of 5 seconds, the hardness value is still in the nickel hardness range, while at electrical voltage of 9 volts with time of 10 and 15 seconds, it is already in the chromium hardness range. When testing the surface roughness, a decrease of 39.36% was observed after 5 seconds, a decrease of 49.70% after 10 seconds and a decrease of 63.90% after 15 seconds. These results show that the roughness level of the nickel-chromium coating is already in the surface roughness range of the finishing or final machining. The highest wear value was at 5 seconds at a voltage of 5 volts, namely 9.86E-07 mm2/kg. The lowest wear value was at 15 seconds at a voltage of 9 volts, namely 2.213E-07 mm2/kg. Therefore, nickel-chromium coating is known to increase the wear resistance of the coated material.

Abstract

AbstrakTujuan kegiatan Pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan edukasi dan pelatihan pengolahan sampah plastik menjadi furnitur bernilai ekonomis bagi civitas akademika dan khususnya bagi mahasiswa dilingkungan Universitas Nusa Cendana (Undana). Program ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada mahasiswa Prodi Teknik Mesin maupun mahasiswa KKN yang berkegiatan di Prodi Teknik Mesin, mengenai cara memanfaatkan sampah plastik menjadi produk yang memiliki nilai jual, seperti furnitur. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman, kesadaran, dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam mengolah sampah plastik menjadi produk bernilai ekonomis, khususnya furnitur. Dengan demikian, mahasiswa dapat menjadi motor penggerak dalam upaya penanganan sampah plastik yang saat ini sudah menjadi masalah Nasional bahkan Global. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran seluruh masyarakat kampus untuk "zero waste recycle" yang pada akhirnya dapat mengurangi volume sampah plastik yang dibuang ke Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA), meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat kampus maupun seputar kampus tentang pentingnya pengelolaan sampah, serta memberikan keterampilan baru yang bernilai ekonomis. Materi Pelatihan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini mencakup pemilahan sampah plastik, teknik pengolahan sampah plastik menjadi bahan baku furnitur, desain serta pembuatan furnitur/produk dari limbah plastik. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini menggunakan metode partisipatif, di mana peserta terlibat aktif dalam proses pembelajaran dan praktik langsung. Target luaran kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan kesadaran civitas akademika dalam mengatasi masalah sampah plastik serta produk furnitur berupa meja, kursi dan bangku dari sampah plastik. Selain itu, model penanganan sampah plastik ini diharapkan dapat diadopsi oleh Bank Sampah Undana dalam mengelola sampah plastik dilingkunagn Undana sehingga bisa menjadi inspirasi bagi pihak lain, seperti Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Kota Kupang, dalam pengelolaan sampah plastik menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomis Kata kunci: pengolahan; sampah plastik; zero waste recycle. AbstractThe purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and training on processing plastic waste into economically valuable furniture for the academic community, and specifically for students at Nusa Cendana University (Undana). This program aims to provide knowledge and skills to Mechanical Engineering students and KKN students participating in the Mechanical Engineering Study Program on how to utilize plastic waste into products with market value, such as furniture. After participating in this activity, it is hoped that students will have increased their understanding, awareness, and skills in processing plastic waste into economically valuable products, particularly furniture. Thus, students can become a driving force in efforts to address plastic waste, which has now become a national and even global problem. This activity is expected to raise awareness throughout the campus community about "zero waste recycling," which will ultimately reduce the volume of plastic waste disposed of in landfills (TPA), raise awareness among the campus community and surrounding areas about the importance of waste management, and provide new skills with economic value. Training materials in this community service activity include plastic waste sorting, techniques for processing plastic waste into raw materials for furniture, and the design and manufacture of furniture/products from plastic waste. The method used in this activity is a participatory method, where participants are actively involved in the learning process and direct practice. The target output of this activity is to increase awareness of the academic community in addressing the problem of plastic waste and furniture products in the form of tables, chairs and benches made from plastic waste. In addition, this plastic waste management model is expected to be adopted by the Undana Waste Bank in managing plastic waste in the Undana environment so that it can inspire other parties, such as the Kupang City Environmental Agency, in managing plastic waste into products with economic value.template Keywords:  processing; plastic waste; zero waste recycling.

Abstract

Abstrak Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini berfokus pada perancangan dan penerapan alat pengering rumput laut tipe tray dryer di Kabupaten Rote Ndao, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Kabupaten Rote merupakan salah satu sentra produksi rumput laut unggulan di Indonesia, khususnya jenis Eucheuma cottonii, yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi dan berdaya saing di pasar internasional. Namun, hingga saat ini masyarakat pembudidaya rumput laut masih menghadapi kendala utama pada tahap pascapanen, terutama proses pengeringan yang masih mengandalkan sinar matahari. Metode tradisional tersebut menyebabkan pengeringan tidak optimal, bergantung pada cuaca, kurang higienis, serta berpotensi menurunkan kualitas dan mutu rumput laut sehingga berdampak pada pendapatan petani. PKM ini bertujuan untuk menghadirkan teknologi tepat guna berupa sistem pengering rumput laut otomatis tipe tray dryer yang sederhana, murah, mudah dioperasikan, dan tidak memerlukan operator khusus. Alat ini dirancang menggunakan sistem pemanas berbasis konveksi dengan pengaturan suhu dan kelembaban yang terkontrol melalui sensor dan mikrokontroler, sehingga mampu menghasilkan rumput laut kering yang lebih merata, higienis, dan berkualitas tinggi. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif, di mana mitra dari Dinas Perikanan dan kelompok masyarakat terlibat secara aktif mulai dari perencanaan, pelatihan, perakitan, hingga pengoperasian dan perawatan alat.Luaran dari kegiatan ini meliputi peningkatan kuantitas, kualitas, dan kontinuitas produksi rumput laut, peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam penerapan teknologi pengeringan modern, serta berkurangnya ketergantungan pada metode pengeringan konvensional. Dengan diterapkannya teknologi tray dryer, PKM ini diharapkan mampu mendorong peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat pesisir di Kabupaten Rote Ndao serta memperkuat pemanfaatan potensi kelautan secara berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: rumput laut; kab. rote; pengering tray dryer; pelatihan; pendampingan. Abstract This Community Partnership Program (PKM) focuses on the design and implementation of a tray dryer type seaweed drying tool in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Rote Regency is one of Indonesia's leading seaweed production centers, particularly the Eucheuma cottonii variety, which has high economic value and competitiveness in the international market. However, until now, seaweed farmers still face major challenges in the post-harvest stage, especially the drying process, which still relies on sunlight. This traditional method causes suboptimal drying, is weather-dependent, unsanitary, and can potentially reduce the quality and grade of the seaweed, thus impacting farmers' income. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to present appropriate technology in the form of a simple, inexpensive, easy-to-operate automatic seaweed drying system of the tray dryer type that does not require a specialized operator. The tool is designed using a convection-based heating system with temperature and humidity controlled through sensors and a microcontroller, enabling it to produce more evenly dried, hygienic, and high-quality seaweed. The approach used is participatory, where partners from the Fisheries Service and community groups are actively involved from planning, training, assembly, to operation and maintenance of the tool. The outcomes of this activity include increased quantity, quality, and continuity of seaweed production, improved knowledge and skills of the community in applying modern drying technology, and reduced dependence on conventional drying methods. With the implementation of tray dryer technology, this PKM is expected to help improve the welfare of coastal communities in Rote Ndao Regency and strengthen the sustainable utilization of marine potential. Keywords: seaweed; rote regency; tray dryer; training; assistance.
