Abstract

Jragung Village is located at the southern tip of Demak Regency, Central Java. Jragung Village is categorized as poor in Karangawen District, Demak Regency. Most Jragung Village residents work as farmers, traders, and factory workers. The majority of the agricultural products of the Jragung Village community are corn commodities. However, the giant corn harvest is mostly still sold in the form of raw corn shells only, thus making the price of corn in Jragung Village cheap and not commensurate with the time and costs spent in the production process. A need for product diversification causes this due to community knowledge and creativity. Jragung Village. Therefore, it is necessary to empower the Corn Village community so that they can overcome these problems through this service. The methods used in this service are surveys and interviews, as well as action approaches, namely socialization to educate the importance of product diversification, followed by training activities in making processed corn products, craft products from corn waste, and training in packaging design and marketing, then mentoring is provided. The results of the service activities showed positive output, the participants were very enthusiastic and interactive. This program is expected to increase the knowledge and skills of the Jragung Village community so that they form a group or association of people who have a corn-based business called Uni.Corn (United Corn) so that Jragung Village can be integrated into a business tourism village, to increase community income and welfare.

Abstract

The Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) serves as a key indicator of economic development performance. West Java Province, home to the largest labor force in Indonesia, continues to experience a high unemployment rate despite a declining trend in percentage terms. The increasing number of people in the productive age group keeps the absolute number of unemployed individuals high, necessitating an in-depth analysis of the economic factors influencing unemployment. This study employs a quantitative approach to examine the impact of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), investment, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), District/City Minimum Wage (UMK), and per capita expenditure on the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) in West Java during 2018–2023. The research utilizes secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and applies the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) Arellano-Bond technique to address endogeneity issues and estimate dynamic panel data. The results show that GRDP (coefficient: -23.94247, significance: 0.0294 < 0.05) and UMK (coefficient: -49.29866, significance: 0.0171 < 0.05) effectively reduce unemployment. Conversely, investment (coefficient: 1.820911, significance: 0.2219 > 0.05) and MSMEs (coefficient: -7.378088, significance: 0.2786 > 0.05) were found to have an insignificant impact. Additionally, per capita expenditure (coefficient: 30.63083, significance: 0.0058 < 0.05) suggests that consumption is not yet directed toward productive sectors. These findings highlight the need for fiscal policies that support productive domestic consumption, strengthen MSMEs, and develop labor-intensive sectors to sustainably reduce unemployment in West Java.

Abstract

International migration has become an important phenomenon in the socio-economic dynamics of the ASEAN region, particularly in countries with negative net migration. This study aims to analyze the influence of socio-economic factors on out-migration rates in five ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines—using a quantitative approach through panel data regression analysis. The independent variables used include wage levels, unemployment rates, labor force size, and the Human Development Index (HDI), with secondary data from 2000 to 2023. The model testing results indicate that the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) is the best model. The findings reveal that wages (coefficient = 0.041; p = 0.0019), unemployment (coefficient = 0.151; p = 0.0025), and HDI (coefficient = 19.91; p = 0.0000) have a significant positive effect on out-migration, while the labor force variable has a significant negative effect (coefficient = -3.456; p = 0.0000). This model explains 97.37% of the variation in emigration rates (R² = 0.9737), with a simultaneous model significance of 0.0000. The conclusion of this study is that migration decisions are not only driven by economic desperation but also by increased individual capabilities that enable cross-border mobility. The implications of this study suggest the need for policies that not only address the drivers of migration but also strengthen the domestic labor market and invest in human development, so that migration can become a safe and productive choice rather than a necessity.

Abstract

Introduction: This study investigates the impact of education, health, and population on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita in the Special Region of Yogyakarta during 2015–2024. Grounded in endogenous growth theory and human capital theory, the research highlights the role of investment in education and health as key drivers of sustainable regional development. Methods: The analysis employs multiple linear regression on panel data sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Education (average years of schooling), health (life expectancy), and population serve as independent variables, while GRDP per capita is used as the dependent variable. Results: Findings indicate that education and health exert a positive and significant effect on GRDP per capita, supporting the human capital framework that links better resources to higher productivity. In contrast, population growth has a negative impact, suggesting that rapid increases in population without proportional employment opportunities reduce per capita income. Conclusion and suggestion: The study concludes that education and health are vital for enhancing economic growth through human capital development, while uncontrolled population growth may hinder per capita income improvement. Therefore, policymakers should prioritize investments in education and healthcare, expand employment opportunities, and implement effective population management. Future research is recommended to include additional variables such as technological innovation, infrastructure, and institutional quality for a more comprehensive analysis of regional economic growth.
