Abstract

This study aims to determine how much influence the scientific writing course has on the ability to write English sentences in semester 6 students of the English Language Education Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. Where as we know that writing activities in their function as productive skills are still considered difficult by students. Things like this are usually caused by several factors such as limited knowledge of vocabulary and a lack of understanding of English grammar. These factors are the main cause of the difficulty for students to develop ideas and write English sentences properly and correctly. Therefore, one of the methods used to overcome this problem is to practice writing a lot, one of which is in scientific writing courses.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to explore how teachers' roles are put into practice when teaching English to inclusive students at Elementary Schools in Bengkulu City. The research followed a descriptive qualitative approach in its design. The study involved 7 English teachers who were responsible for instructing English at various Elementary Schools in Bengkulu City, namely SDN 03, SD Al-Manar, SD Alam Mahira, SDN 61, SDN 73, SDN 24, and SD Al-Aufa. To gather data, the researchers employed an observation checklist and an interview guide. The observation checklist used in this study was adapted from Tyagi's work in 2016. There are 5 teachers’ roles in teaching inclusive students that were observed by the researcher which consisted 14 items. The research finding indicated that there were five teachers’ roles in teaching inclusive students at Elementary Schools in Bengkulu city, namely; teacher role as corrector, inspirator, culminator, facilitator, and evaluator. There were 71% of teachers implemented corrector and inspirator, there were 65% of them implemented teacher role as culminator, 24% as facilitator, and 100% of teachers applied teacher role as evaluator. The researcher suggested for English teachers to implement teacher role as facilitator since less than fifty percent of English teachers who implemented teacher role as facilitator.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the Learning strategies Encourage Writing Ability by using ICT in Fifth Semester of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. There are many multimedia tools out there for student to use in learning specially in writing. Using ICT will help learning activity from teacher dominated to student centered. It has positive activity to achieve student mastery in writing ability. The design of this research was descriptive method. The instruments of the research were questionnaire and interview guidelines. The questionnaire has been distributed to 30 students in fifth semester. The results of the research showed that there were many student have strategies encourage their writing skill by using different types of ICT. Thus, it can make the process writing easier and fun for students. By this research, the student can get the opportunities to improve their skill and capable to applicate in some tools. Abstract

This research aims to explore what factors motivate students to learn English. Data collection was carried out through a qualitative descriptive approach with instruments in the form of observations, namely making observations during the research. Apart from that, interviews were used to find out other factors outside existing theories. Analyze data using analysis descriptive with interviews and observation of data that is reduced and presented. Results Research shows that as many as 50% choose teachers as motivational drivers in learning English in class and the rest choose to give rewards and punishments, give tests or exams and the last factor is goals or desires.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is entitled "The Importance of Classroom Interaction in Teaching Speaking skills at Second Grade SMA 6 Bengkulu" The purpose of this research is to analyze how the importance of classroom interaction in teaching speaking skills in class. The method used in this research is using qualitative method, by using direct observation method to students and teachers in the learning process. The subjects in this research are an English teacher and second grade students of SMAN 6 Bengkulu. The result of this research is, class interaction is very important in learning speaking in class especially in learning English. Because through class interaction, we can find out the ability of students and how to develop and foster students' confidence to speak and interact during the learning process. In this context, the teacher has an important role in supporting classroom interaction because the teacher is a motivator as well as a facilitator to develop students' abilities. When learning English, it is found that there are still many students who are not confident and choose to be silent, and there are also those who speak but still use the mother tongue as a whole word with the excuse of not knowing and afraid of being wrong, therefore it is advisable for teachers to provide encouragement, motivation and praise that builds students' confidence to speak, especially using English.

Abstract

Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah (UMKM) adalah jenis kegiatan ekonomi yang paling banyak dilakukan oleh masyarakat indonesia sebagai tumpuan dalam memperoleh pendapatan untuk kelangsungan hidupnya,Didesa Jatisawit kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat bagaimana cara mengelola SDA seperti mengelola hasil ubi mereka menjadi sebuah produk untuk dipasarkan ditambah juga permasalahan cara pemasarannya.dan yang merantau menjadi salah satu dari sekian permasalahan yang ada pada masyarakat desa Jatisawit,kecamatan Jatiyoso, kabupaten Karanganyar.karena masalah ini desa Jatisawit menjadi desa yang kekurangan sumber daya manusia dan kurang memaksimalkan potensi  tang ada didalamnya.Hal ini membuat UMKM yang ada didesa Jatisawit berada pada angka yang rendah Maka, penulis melakukan Sosialisasi pengenalan produk dan tata cara pengelolahan bahan pangan yang lebih berinovasi.Kemudian penulis mengajarkan cara untuk memasarkan produk tersebut kemedia sosial seperti Facebook, Whatsaap,Instgram dll.agar bisa dipasarkan keluar daerah. Metode yang digunakan dalam program ini adalah sosialisasi terutama kepada ibu-ibu PKK.dengan materi yang disampaikan dan masalah yan telah ditemukan penulis telah memaparkan materi dan sesi tanya jawab sehingga dapat membantu meningkatkan jumlah pelaku UMKM desa Jatisawit dan memberikan peluang besar bagi warga tanpa harus merantau, masyarkat menjadi termotivasi,membuat gagasan –gagasan terbaru  untuk produk baru,dan bisa meningkatkan peluang kerja dan pendapatan UMKM. Hasil yang didapat adalah program kerja ini menginspirasi masyarakat yang belum menjadi pelaku UMKM,yang lebih modern dan berinovasi dimasa sekarang.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of idioms in songs as a means to understand their contribution to meaning, mood, and theme, while exploring their emotional, cultural, and narrative dimensions. Utilizing a qualitative research approach with a literature study design, the research collects data from relevant journal articles, books, and other academic sources, focusing on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning among Indonesian students. The instrument used is songs containing idioms, which serve as teaching tools to enhance students' understanding of idiomatic expressions. The findings indicate that although idioms are often overlooked in language instruction, the use of songs as a teaching medium proves effective in improving students' listening skills and memory of idioms. Songs not only provide an engaging and memorable context but also enrich students' cultural understanding. In conclusion, integrating songs into idiom instruction can enhance students' linguistic competence and cultural appreciation, making it an effective strategy for EFL educators to bridge the gap between language learning and cultural appreciation.

Abstract

This research aims to explore students' perceptions of the use of English as a second language in the campus environment. The choice of this topic is based on the importance of English language skills in the context of globalization and competition in the world of work, as well as the role of English as a lingua franca in the academic environment. This research uses a qualitative approach with survey methods and in depth interviews to collect data. The research instruments used include a questionnaire designed to measure students' perceptions regarding the use of English, as well as an interview guide to gain deeper insight into their experiences. The data analysis technique was carried out using thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes that emerged from the data collected. The results showed that the majority of students had a positive perception of the use of English on campus, considering it an important tool for improving communication skills and access to academic resources. However, there are also challenges faced, such as anxiety in speaking and lack of support from the surrounding environment. The discussion of the results indicates the need to develop more effective English language support programs on campus to increase students' confidence in using English. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of language education policies in higher education institutions and increase awareness of the importance of mastering English among students.

Abstract

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based machine technology developed by the OpenAI company. ChatGPT is trained to be able to simulate human conversations such as answering questions and interacting on various topics. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques can be obtained through questionnaires. The purpose of this study is to find out the perceptions of students towards the use of ChatGPT in writing articles. The target of the research is 7th semester students who have published articles. The results showed that the percentage of positive students towards the use of ChatGPT and there are also some students who are not in agreement with the use of GhatGPT in writing articles.

Abstract

Desa Kepoh dijadikan TPA (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir) sampah dari seluruh desa di Kecamatan Toboali. Tumpukan sampah yang menggunung didominasi oleh plastik menjadi permasalahan serius yang harus segera ditangani. Pengelolaan sampah di Desa Kepoh masih belum dikelola dengan baik sehingga masih banyak sampah yang berakhir di TPA, khususnya sampah plastik. Padahal, sampah plastik merupakan sampah yang membutuhkan waktu lama untuk terurai dan memberikan dampak negatif bagi bumi. Dengan adanya permasalahan tersebut mahasiswa KKN MAs berupaya bekerja sama dengan perangkat desa, kepala dusun, ketua RT, ibu PKK, Karang Taruna dan siswa SD Desa Kepoh untuk melakukan kegiatan daur ulang sampah plastik sebagai langkah terbaik dalam mengatasi permasalahan tersebut melalui pembuatan Ecobrick. Pengenalan Ecobrick kepada warga Desa Kepoh dilaksanakan melalui sosialisasi sebanyak satu kali dengan rencana tindak lanjut pembuatan ecobrick yang dilakukan 3 kali dengan ibu pkk, 2 kali dengan siswa sd, dan 2 kali dengan karang taruna. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwasanya ada peningkatan dalam kepedulian lingkungan, kreativitas, ketekunan dan keuletan pada setiap warga Desa Kepoh yang dapat dilihat dari hasil kuisioner yang ada. Pembuatan Ecobrick yang sudah dilakukan menghasilkan kursi dan meja yang dapat dimanfaatkan oleh warga sekitar.
