Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) instructional model on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar. The study employs a quantitative method, specifically a one-shot case study design. The population consists of all seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar for the academic year 2023/2024, totaling 288 students. Cluster Random Sampling was used to select a sample, and one class, namely VII-1, was chosen for the study, resulting in a total sample size of 30 students. Data were obtained through a questionnaire measuring students' perceptions of the Problem Based Learning model and a mathematics problem-solving ability test for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar. The instruments utilized included 12 closed-ended statement questionnaires with Likert scale measurements and 5 mathematics problem-solving ability test questions. Following calculations, the conclusion drawn from the simple linear regression analysis with the equation Y’ = a + bX = 27.228 + 0.234X is that the calculated t-value (4.196) exceeds the critical t-value (2.042) at a significance level of 0.00 < 0.05. Consequently, the null hypothesis H0 is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis H  is accepted. The influence of the Problem Based Learning instructional model on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar is 38.6%. This implies that the Problem Based Learning model can affect students' mathematical problem-solving abilities by 38.6%, while the remaining 61.4% can be influenced by other factors

Abstract

Starting from the difficulty of getting employees who have the right competencies in educational institutions. This research aims to determine the recruitment process digitalization for prospective employees and its challenges. The type of research chosen is qualitative research using the library research method. The results of this research are that in recruiting employees in education, the things that schools need to do are (1) look at the needs that exist in the school along with job descriptions and what skills can support the staff in completing their work; (2) the school determines where it is appropriate for job vacancies to be advertised; (3) the school selects the best qualified applicant for the vacancy; and (4) the school provides orientation or introduction to new employees so that employees can adapt quickly and the challenges faced by the school and employees in its implementation, such as (1) education staff do not receive enough attention so they are disturbed in improving their competence; (2) internal promotions prevent the school from getting more competent employees; (3) requirements such as domicile make it difficult for applicants to get jobs that match their qualifications; and (4) limited costs for start-up schools can also prevent schools from getting employees because they are not yet well known in the community.

Abstract

Using technology in daily activities has become common and mandatory so that educational development can compete and provide significant opportunities for special schools to improve education and empower students with special needs. However, there has yet to be any research that reveals the planning and organizing of information technology in special needs learning in special schools, making technology-based learning not optimally implemented and challenging to implement. Therefore, this research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive type, with data collection using the triangulation of data sources based on interviews, documentation, and observation data results. The research informants were the principal, vice principal for curriculum, and teachers at state special schools. The research results obtained are of significant importance as they revealed the management of information technology in special needs learning in special schools, which began with planning, and the organizing stage. These results provide valuable insights and recommendations for the effective management of information technology in special needs learning in special schools, addressing the current challenges.

Abstract

Bintang, G. P., Herlin, W., Pakpahan, T., Zelianty, S. O., Arka, K., Aryanti, R.M., Indah, M., Jesika, J. (2024). Effectiveness of betel leaves (Piper betle) as a vegetable pesticide to suppress pests insect populations on cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 90–102). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Cayenne pepper (Capsicum fructuscens L.) has a very high potential for cultivation, but the problem of cayenne pepper cultivation is never free from pest disease, so ethane used chemical pesticides because it is considered more effective and efficient. The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of betel leaf weeds as botanical pesticides to suppressed pests in cayenne pepper. The methods used in this study are Group Randomization Design (GRD) with each group consisting of five treatments, namely P1 (control), P2 (50 gr/l), P3 (100 gr/l), P4 (150 gr/l), P5 (200 gr/) and six tests with a total of 30 cayenne pepper. The results of the studied on P5 (200 gr/l) had the highest insect diversity of 1.94, while P1 (control) had the lowest insect diversity of 1,10. The insect diversity found in the study based on observations from 1 to 80 Days After Planting consisted of 11 species covering several orders such as Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Aranae, Hemiptera, and Hymenoptera. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the dose of betel leaf pesticide used, the lower the attack of insect pests with species of aphids (Aphis gossypii), mealybugs (Pseudococcus sp.), flies (Sarcophaga sp.), caterpillars (Syrphidae sp. larvae), spiders (Araneus sp., Neoscona sp., Paidiscura sp., Oxyopes sp.), ants (Tapinoma sp.), ladybugs (Coccinellidae sp. pupa), and butterflies (Agraulis sp. larvae) on cayenne pepper. Thus, the use of botanical pesticides must be used with the appropriate dose in order to suppress the development of insect pest populations on cayenne pepper.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of beetroot extract on total cholesterol levels and kidney histopathology in alloxan-induced diabetic white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Methods: This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with 24 male rats divided into six groups: normal, negative control (alloxan + aquadest), positive control (alloxan + metformin), and three treatment groups receiving beetroot extract at doses of 22.5 mg/200 gBW, 45 mg/200 gBW, and 90 mg/200 gBW. Total cholesterol levels were measured before and after treatment, while kidney tissues were examined histopathologically using HE staining and damage scoring (0–3). Data analysis included Shapiro-Wilk, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman’s correlation tests. Results: Most groups showed an increase in cholesterol levels after treatment, except treatment group 2 (45 mg/200 gBW), which demonstrated a decrease from 96.40 mg/dL to 84.40 mg/dL. Kruskal-Wallis test revealed no statistically significant differences among groups (p = 0.306). Histopathological findings indicated that treatment group 2 exhibited lower kidney damage scores compared to the negative control, suggesting a protective effect. Spearman’s correlation analysis showed no significant relationship between day-14 blood glucose levels and total cholesterol (r = –0.130; p = 0.492). Conclusion: Beetroot extract at a dose of 45 mg/200 gBW demonstrated potential in lowering total cholesterol levels and providing nephroprotective effects, although the results were not statistically significant. These findings support the potential role of beetroot as an adjuvant therapy in diabetes mellitus with dyslipidemia and kidney complications.
