Abstract

Gas stations are a source of lead exposure that comes from vehicle gas emissions and petrol fuel vapors. Gas station officers, both operators and nonoperators, have a risk level of lead exposure that can enter the body and then accumulate and excreted through urine by 75-80%. Lead exposure can endanger the health of gas station officers. The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in lead levels in the urine of gas station operators and nonoperators in Kademangan District, Probolinggo City. This research is an observational study with a cross sectional method which was conducted at the Surabaya Health Laboratory Center in October 2020 - June 2021. The sample used was 15 operators and 15 nonoperators who were taken by purposive sampling. The results showed the average value of lead levels in the urine for operators 0.0007213 ppm, indoor nonoperators 0.0006386 ppm and outdoor nonoperators 0.0008263 ppm. The conclusion of this study was that there was no significant difference in lead levels in the urine of gas station operators and nonoperators.

Abstract

Cadmium is one of the chemicals contained in cigarettes, when consumed by humans in the long term and with sufficient intensity often can damage human organs such as the liver. This study aims to determine the exposure of cadmium to the levels of SGOT and SGPT in active smokers and passive smokers in a coffee shop in East Surabaya. This study used a correlational type of research, with a cross-sectional research design. There were 30 respondents who were divided into 2 groups, namely 15 active smokers and 15 passive smokers in a coffee shop in East Surabaya. The examination of cadmium used an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotomter (AAS), while the examination of SGOT and SGPT used the IFCC method (kinetic) with a photometer. The data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Sminorv test and r-Pearson test. The results showed that there was no effect of high cadmium exposure in active smokers and passive smokers on SGOT and SGPT levels. The average cadmium in active smokers and passive smokers were 2.93 g/L and 1.30 g/L. while the levels of SGOT and SGPT in active smokers were 27.26 U/L and 36.86 U/L. The average levels of SGOT and SGPT in passive smokers were 19.73 U/L and 17.86, respectively. In these results it can be seen that the increase in cadmium levels does not affect liver function cells.

Abstract

Background: The elderly pain rate in 2021 is 22.48%, this shows that around one in five elderly people in Indonesia have experienced illness in the past month. 3 factors affect predisposing factors, including knowledge and attitudes, supporting factors, and reinforcing factors. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support, gender, and education to the quality of life of the elderly in Jambi.Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Jambi, Indonesia, from March to April 2024. A total of 200 elderly participants were selected using fixed disease sampling. The independent variables were gender, education, family support, and Integrated Health Posts for the elderly. The dependent variable is quality of life. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results: Quality of life in old age improved with strong family support (b= 0.46; 95% CI= 0.19 to 0.74; p = 0.001) and ≥high school education (b=4.99; 95%CI = 2.89 to 7.09; p <0.0010). The quality of life of the elderly decreased or decreased in women compared to men (b= 2.94; 95% CI= -5.22 to -0.66; p= 0.011). There was a strong contextual influence of Integrated Health Posts for the elderly on the quality of life of the elderly (ICC= 31.15%).Conclusion: The quality of life of the elderly improves with strong family support and ≥high school education. The quality of life of the elderly decreases or is lower in women than men. There is a strong contextual influence of Integrated Health Posts for the elderly on the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2025, tobacco control initiatives are expected to reduce the prevalence rate of tobacco throughout the WHO region. Recent assessments of smoking epidemics over the past half-century show a decrease in overall smoking prevalence among adult males (32.2% to 33.1%) and females (6.3% to 6.7%). The effectiveness of all these smoking cessation programs depends on knowing the factors that affect smokers. Factors such as sociodemographic factors, attitudes, and environment play an important role in the desire to quit smoking This study aimed to determine the influence of attitudes on the likelihood of quitting smoking in adults. Subjects and Method: Systematic review and meta-analysis using prism flow diagrams and PICO format. Population: Adult smokers. Intervention: attitudes of likelihood of quitting smoking, smoking Outcome: Smoking cessation behavior in adults. The online databases used are Google Scholar, BMC, ScienceDirect, and Springer Link with the words smoking cessation, attitude to quit smoking, cross sectional and aOR. There were 9 cross sectional studies published in 2019-2023. The analysis was performed with RevMan 5.3. Results: This meta-analysis included 9 cross-sectional studies from the Hadiyah Zone, Southern Ethiopia, Bhubaneswar, India, Hanoi, Vietnam, United States, Saudi Arabia, England, Taiwan, Beirut, Lebanon and Qatar. The number of samples is 12,526. Smokers with positive attitudes were 1.28 times more likely to quit smoking than negative attitudes, and the effect was statistically significant (aOR= 1.28; CI 95%= 0.84 to 1.95; p= 0.260). Conclusion: Positive attitudes increase the likelihood of smokers quitting smoking. Keywords: quit smoking, attitudes, smokers, cross sectional, aOR.
