Abstract

Preserving one's physical health and preventing diseases is of utmost importance, and leading a healthy lifestyle is essential. The absence of physical activity has been identified as a significant risk factor for obesity and chronic illnesses. This study aimed to establish an intricate relationship between physical activity level and Body Mass Index (BMI) among medical students. This analytical study used a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from October to December 2023. A total of 144 medical students enrolled at Universitas Prima, Indonesia participated in this study. Physical activity data were obtained using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), whereas BMI was measured using the standard method of dividing weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters (kg/m²). Data analysis was performed using a One-Way ANOVA statistical test. The study findings revealed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between physical activity levels and BMI. Students in the light activity group had an average BMI of 28.57 kg/m², compared to 23.27 kg/m² for the moderate activity group and 21.66 kg/m² for the vigorous activity group. This indicates that physical activity plays a crucial role in determining BMI, with moderate- and vigorous-intensity activities associated with ideal BMI ranges. This study underscores the importance of physical activity in maintaining healthy weight and reducing the risk of obesity and associated chronic diseases. Promoting physical activity among university students can be an effective strategy for promoting their overall well-being.

Abstract

Abstract

Outdoorsy folks get UV radiation. Acute UVB decreases hyaluronic acid. Antioxidants can prevent photoaging by delaying, stopping, or eliminating oxidation-induced molecular damage. Black rice extract ointment (Oryza sativa l. indica) was tested on the histological features of skin and collagen in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) subjected to ultraviolet B radiation. This study is lab-based. The research samples were Wistra strain white mice (Rattus norvegicus). Reaserch with treatment groups is Precondition variables (UVB rays), independent factors (10%, 20%, and 30% black rice extract ointment), and fixed variables (dermis collagen and histological picture of mice exposed to UVB rays) were the research variables. The research procedures included the accreditation of test animals, black rice extract, ointment, phytochemical screening, treatment, histopathological skin tissue preparations, and histopathological observation. All the data was examined with SPSS. The investigation revealed that 30% black rice extract ointment had the highest collagen density (mean and SD = 55,959 ± 2.5). All groups K-, K+, P1, P2, and P3 had significant data normality tests of 0.200 > 0.05. The homogeneity p-value is 0.06 > 0.05, and the sig (2-tailed) value is 0.000 < 0.05 in the t-test. The alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and steroids in black rice extract increase glutathione peroxidase levels in mice, which helps collagen density when exposed to UVB light at 125 mg/kg BW.

Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is still the leading cause of death globally and nationally and is closely related to various cardiometabolic and behavioral risk factors. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and risk factors related to the incidence of CHD at Royal Prima Hospital for the January-December 2024 period. The research design used an observational analytical study with a medical record-based case-control approach, involving 120 respondents (60 CHD cases and 60 non-CHD cases) who were selected by consecutive sampling. Independent variables included age, gender, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and smoking history. Data analysis was carried out in univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square test), and multivariate (binary logistics regression). The results showed that all risk factors were significantly related to the incidence of CHD in bivariate analysis (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that age ?45 years, dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking history, and male sex had a significant effect on CHD, with age ?45 years as the most dominant factor, while obesity had no independent effect. These findings confirm the importance of controlling the main risk factors in the prevention of CHD in health care facilities.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension affects 1.4 billion adults globally and remains inadequately controlled. Body mass index (BMI) accounts for 65 to 75 percent of primary hypertension cases, yet hospital-based evidence from Southeast Asian populations remains limited. Objective: This study determined the relationship between BMI and hypertension incidence at Royal Prima Hospital Medan in 2024. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study employed total population sampling including 69 respondents meeting inclusion criteria. Data were extracted from medical records and analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman rank correlation test. Results: Among respondents, 84.1 percent experienced hypertension, with 52.2 percent possessing a BMI greater than 25 kg/m². All respondents with BMI greater than 25 kg/m² exhibited hypertension compared to 66.6 percent of those with normal BMI (p=0.000). Conclusion: A statistically significant relationship exists between elevated BMI and hypertension incidence, confirming obesity as a critical modifiable risk factor for hypertension development in hospital settings. Weight management through lifestyle modification represents an essential intervention strategy for hypertension prevention and control.
