Abstract

The development gap is still an important issue. This can be seen in one of the goals in the framework of reference for the development of countries in the world which is formulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One form of inequality that often occurs in the region is the human development gap. The gap in human development in rural and urban areas causes a welfare gap. The gap in human development can be approached from the indicators of the human development index. The Village Fund distribution program is one of the efforts made by the government to reduce the number of development gaps in each region. This study aims to analyze the effect of village funds on the urban-rural human development gap in Indonesia for the 2015-2019 period. The analytical method used is descriptive analysis and panel data analysis. The results showed that the village fund program had a negative effect on the gap in Indonesia's human development, which was represented by life expectancy, the gap in average length of schooling, and the gap per capita in rural and urban areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

Poverty is one of the most crucial problems in Indonesia which is the fifth city in South-East Asia, have a poverty line around 11.2% in 2014 (BPS 2016). Moreover, poverty in Indonesia has decreased slowly from 2000 (19.1%) until 2016 (10.9%) (Smeru, 2015). It means poverty in Indonesia should be accelerated the decline. One of the things that can reduce poverty is education (Gounder and Xing 2012). Education has a relationship with household consumption per capita. That means, the higher the education of household head, the higher the consumption per capita that household get. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of education on poverty as measured by household's consumption in West Indonesia in 2014. This study uses Two-Stage Least Square (2SLS) methods with cross-section data and obtained from IFLS (Indonesia Family Life Survey). The result shows that there is a relationship between education and other independent variables on poverty. The independent variables that significantly affect poverty are age, age squared, gender, and marital status. The implication of this study is education can increase the number of consumption per capita so that the living standard will increase and poverty will decrease.JEL Classification: I20, I21, I25Keywords: consumption per capita, cross section, education, Two Stage Least Square, poverty.

Abstract

It is expected that the COVID-19 pandemic provides a significant impact on food price volatility in many products including sugar. The paper aims to analyze the price dynamic of sugar before covid (1st August – 2nd March 2020) and during the covid outbreak (3rd March – 31th August 2021) in all provinces in Indonesia by using the t-test and ARCH GARCH model. Based on Augmented Dickey-Fuller analysis before and during covid, the prices of sugar in Indonesia were stationary at the “first difference”. The results reveal that the prices of sugar in all provinces in Indonesia before covid was lower compared to during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to ARCH GARCH results, sugar prices were much more volatile in Riau, Jambi, West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and West Papua. As such, the government should focus to reduce the price volatility of sugar in these provinces. Keywords: ARCH GARCH, COVID-19, sugar prices, stationarity, volatility

Abstract

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is typically endemic and commonly found as a recurring issue in many developing countries, including Indonesia. In 2022, FMD has massively spread to 62 districts and cities so that it was declared an outbreak which caused significant economic losses. In this paper, we attempt to assess the impacts of FMD on the Indonesian economy by using a computable general equilibrium (CGE) approach. The results show that the FMD outbreak caused negative pressure on national economic growth, reducing the real wage and consumption, as well as exacerbating trade deficit. The outbreak also induced higher prices of beef and dairy sectors as well as their related sectors. Based on the regional perspective, the main production regions of beef and dairy are expected to suffer higher economic loss than that of other regions. Meanwhile, at the household level, the outbreak caused considerable effect in lowering income and consumption, particularly for rural farm households. Some necessary policies to overcome the outbreak, consisting of establishing a FMD handling post, promoting vaccination, extending financial supports, and maintaining communication and transparency with other countries regarding the outbreak status. Abstract

Abstract

Economic disparities between regions in Indonesia remain one of the main challenges in the national development process. The development of the National Capital City (IKN) is seen as an effort to create a new economic growth center outside Java Island to reduce regional economic inequality. This study aims to analyze the impact of investment in IKN development on the national economy using the Indonesian Inter-Regional Input-Output (IRIO) approach, particularly to assess its effects on economic output, household income, and employment absorption. The analysis method used is the 2016 Indonesian Inter-Regional Input-Output (IRIO) model. The findings indicate that increased government investment in IKN development, particularly in the construction sector, has a significant impact on East Kalimantan but also generates output effects in other regions, such as Jakarta, East Java, North Kalimantan, and West Java. Meanwhile, income and labor impacts are also observed in Java Island, Sulawesi Island, Sumatra Island, and partially in Balinusra (Bali-Nusa Tenggara), as well as Maluku and Papua. It is necessary to strengthen economic diversification policies and support for related sectors outside Kalimantan in order to broaden the nationwide spillover effects of the IKN development.
