Abstract

This current study explored the findings from the learners' views and experiences while creating a multimodal composition, particularly the affordances and the constraints. A qualitative analysis was used in this study as it analyzed the narratives of 15 (fifteen) learners who responded to an open-ended questionnaire. The findings reveal that most learners positively perceived the multimodal composition since they could learn differently, an innovative meaning-making. Second, several affordances of creating multimodal composition are learning through multimodal composition, innovative meaning-making, understanding the information easily, collaboration, and attracting the reader's attention. Apart from the affordances, the learners also encounter a few constraints: struggling with meaning-making, collaboration with peers, and putting the idea. Relatedly, the teachers could use these results as their reflection in utilizing multimodal composition in the class. First and foremost, multimodal composition offers a new perspective of innovation in ELT context which could be applied in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to explore postgraduate students' perceptions of the importance of Neuroeducation in English Language Teaching (ELT) and their awareness of its application. A mixed-methods approach was employed in this study. The study involved 30 postgraduate students from Master of Education programs at various universities. Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data, while open-ended interviews were conducted to gather qualitative data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the quantitative data and thematic analysis for the qualitative data. The findings reveal that postgraduate students perceive understanding brain function as crucial in ELT. Regarding the awareness of Neuroeducation, participants highlighted the significance of accessible neuroscience resources, with the highest mean score (M = 4.87) for the need to make neuroscience information easily available to educators. The study concludes that postgraduate students recognize the importance of Neuroeducation in creating personalized and inclusive learning environments, though challenges remain, such as the need for formal training. Thus, Neuroeducation is considered an interdisciplinary field that can bring insights into how the brain learns the knowlegde into more effective and inclusive teaching stratgies, particularly in English language teaching.

Abstract

The Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia introduced the Merdeka Curriculum in 2022, which emphasizes fostering self-regulated learners by adopting a student-centered approach tailored to their interests and needs. Self-regulated learning (SRL) is established as a core competency standard across educational levels, from primary to high school. Despite its significance, EFL teachers face challenges in promoting SRL in the classroom. This study aimed to identify these challenges using a multiple-case study method, which is well-suited for examining complex issues in real-world contexts. The findings revealed notable differences in students' self-regulation capabilities within the same classroom, making it difficult for teachers to manage groups with varying levels of SRL. Additionally, the lack of continuous training and professional development further hinders teachers’ ability to support SRL effectively. Another challenge identified was the prioritization of subject matter instruction over SRL due to the curriculum’s rigid content and pedagogical framework. These findings highlight the need for more flexible curriculum designs and enhanced teacher training programs to address the challenges of implementing SRL in EFL classrooms

Abstract

This research attempts to investigate the efficacy of using literary works as learning media in improving students' reading ability. This mixed-methods study involved grade IX students in a public junior high school in Gresik. Data were acquired by surveys for quantitative data utilizing questionnaires and semi-structured interviews for qualitative data. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics whilst the qualitative data from interviews were thematically analyzed to investigate students' perspectives and experiences. Three categories were identified from the survey data: students' interest in reading, their interest in English, and their perceptions on the usage of literary works to enhance reading abilities. According to the findings, 47% of students "agree" that reading literature can help them become better readers. This study suggests that teachers can utilize literature in reading skills according to the level of age appropriateness and alignment with learning objectives

It is a big deal since English is a foreign language and students do not encounter English in their daily life. It leads us to understand the importance of English as Foreign Language teachers' role in enriching students' vocabulary mastery. Video subtitles becomes one of popular media in EFL teaching. Many previous scholars have proofed the effectiveness of using video subtitles as the teaching media. Unfortunately, study focuses on the effect of video subtitles toward secondary school students especially 7th graders still need further exploration. This study aims to examine whether the video subtitles can be an effective teaching media for 7th graders. A quantitative research methodology implementing quasi-experimental research design for gathering data process and inferential statistic using t-test for analyzing data process are carried out in this study. The findings reveal that video subtitles are an effective teaching media for 7th graders in improving their vocabulary mastery.
