Abstract

This paper is an empirical exploration of the impact of total asset turnover ratios on stock returns of 1961 US public firms in different types of industries from 2001 to 2015. Stock prices are significantly influenced by operating performance of a company in efficiently utilizing its assets. For that matter, operating efficiency (as measured by total asset turnover ratio) plays a role in portfolio investment decisions. Pedroni?s heterogeneous panel co-integration procedures, associated bivariate error-correction model (ECM), dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) and generalized method of moments (GMM) are applied. Both stock returns and total asset turnover ratios in levels are nonstationary with I (1) behavior. Subsequently, both variables are found cointegrated. The panel ECM estimates suggest convergence of variables toward long-run equilibrium at moderate pace with short-run interactive positive feedback effects. Again, both DOLS and GMM estimates reveal short-run contemporaneous positive effects of total asset turnover ratios on stock returns in levels. In view of the findings of this study, firms should strive to improve operating efficiency, among others, to enhance competitiveness and thereby to boost their stock prices for rewarding shareholders.

Abstract

One of the main aims of foreign language (FL) teaching is to prepare students to speak the target language. Therefore, teachers need to help students develop communication skills. However, this ability only sometimes leads to theforeign language anxiety (FLA). The study aims to analyze the counter-effect of enjoyment of a foreign language (FLE) on the relationship between anxiety and the acquisition of English as a foreign language among university students. A quantitative research method is used to identify the relationship between foreign languages and anxiety. The expected results shown negative impact of enjoyment of a foreign language on anxiety, a negative impact of acquiring a foreign language(AFL) on anxiety, and a positive relationship between FLE and efficiency. The expected findings posited that anxiety is a negative emotion in psychology as it destroys students’ mental health to learn a foreign language. On the other hand, positive emotions contribute to student well-being and increase student motivation and the learning language process.

Abstract

This study examines the Balti folktale “Choqpa Bursting Shargo” through a feminist lens, focusing on the representation of female characters and their societal roles. The research aims to explore gender roles, major themes, and the portrayal of patriarchal structures in the narrative. It highlights the elements of oppression and the marginalization of women in a male-dominated society, drawing attention to the societal norms that perpetuate gender inequality. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing feminist literary criticism to analyse the folktale. The research is based on textual analysis, examining key themes and character interactions to reveal underlying patriarchal ideologies. The methodology involves identifying patterns of gender discrimination and assessing their implications within the broader socio-cultural framework. The analysis reveals that women in the folktale are subjected to systemic oppression and are often portrayed in subservient roles. The narrative reflects the realities of patriarchal norms, illustrating how female identity is suppressed and controlled. The concept of double marginalization is also explored, emphasizing how women face compounded oppression both as individuals and as a collective. In conclusion, the research underscores the significance of feminist readings of folklore in unveiling deep-seated gender biases. The study highlights the continued relevance of such tales in contemporary discussions on gender equality, advocating for a more inclusive and equitable representation of women in traditional narratives.

Abstract

This study explores the core themes of friendship, family, and love in the South Korean television drama Reply 1988. As part of the acclaimed “Reply” series, Reply 1988 revisits the late 1980s in a Seoul neighbourhood, presenting deeply personal and social dynamics through the everyday lives of five families. The objective of this research is to analyse how the drama portrays emotional and cultural values, especially emphasizing the interplay between communal living, generational understanding, and interpersonal affection. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study employs content analysis by observing narrative structures, character development, and key dialogues within the 20-episode series. Through close reading and thematic categorization, the study identifies motifs such as sacrifice, loyalty, unspoken affection, and the warmth of familial bonds. The analysis reveals that Reply 1988 effectively humanizes historical nostalgia, portraying the 1980s as a period of sincere social interaction and collective identity. The theme of friendship is illuminated through the enduring bond among the neighbourhood’s children, while family dynamics are shown through intergenerational respect and emotional dependence. Romantic love, subtle and often secondary, highlights the slow, realistic evolution of relationships. In conclusion, Reply 1988 transcends conventional melodrama by offering viewers a textured representation of Korean society through universal emotions. It serves not only as entertainment but also as cultural reflection, resonating with audiences globally through its sincere depiction of everyday life and timeless values.
