Abstract

Research has been conducted on the activity test of ethanol extract from papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) on increasing platelet count in male mice (Mus musculus) induced with chloramphenicol. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract from papaya leaves and its effective dosage in increasing platelet count in male mice induced with chloramphenicol. In this study, the first treatment involved feeding for 14 days, the second treatment involved administering chloramphenicol at a dose of 30mg/30g body weight orally for 7 days along with standard feed for 7 days, the third treatment involved administering chloramphenicol at a dose of 30mg/30g body weight orally along with 1.5% ethanol extract of papaya leaves for 7 days, and the fourth treatment involved administering chloramphenicol at a dose of 30mg/30g body weight orally along with 3% ethanol extract of papaya leaves for 7 days. The results showed that the ethanol extract of papaya leaves exhibited an effect in increasing platelet count in male mice induced with chloramphenicol.

Abstract

Lip tint is a cosmetic preparation used to color lips which has liquid texture with a more natural color so that it is easily absorbed and produces a natural color like the lips’ original color. This research aimed to determine whether kepok banana flower peel extract (Musa paradisiaca Linn.) and dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) can be formulated in the from of lip tint preparations as natural dyes and to test the antioxidant activity of lip tint preparations. The research method was experimental research by making lip tint formulations with concentrations of FI (2%), FII (6%), and FIII (10%) from banana peel and dragon fruit extracts, evaluating the preparations using physicochemical methods and testing antioxidant activity using the method DPPH using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the total anthocyanin content in the peel of the kepok banana flower was 0,374 mg/L and in dragon fruit it was 8,232 mg/L. Lip tint preparation formulas with concentrations of 2%, 6% and 10% are physically and chemically stable and the antioxidant activity test in Formula I (2%) obtained an IC50 value of 3,52 µg/mL, Formula II (6%) obtained an IC50 value of 3,91 µg/mL, Formula III (10%) obtained an IC50 value of 1,62 µg/mL and in the positive control comparison (Lip Tint Implora®) an IC50 value of 1,98 µg/mL was obtained. The formula with a concentration of 10% has an IC50 value of 1,62 µg/mL in the very strong category.

Abstract

Hemophilia is a common hereditary coagulation blood disorder due to the deficiency activity of clotting factors. Hemophilia is divided into two, namely hemophilia A and hemophilia B. Among all treatments, standard half-life (SHL) and extended half-life (EHL) factor replacement products are the most commonly used. This study aimed to review real-world evidence on the comparison of SHL and EHL. A literature search was conducted in PubMed and google scholar published from 2017 to 2021. There were 10 articles that met the criteria. Based on the synthesis results, the total proportion of patients using EHL factor concentrates for both on‐demand and prophylactic factor replacement therapy increased. Recent evidence reveals that EHL may reduce the number of infusions, increase factor trough levels, and substantially decrease the annual bleeding rate. Efficacy-wise, EHLs unquestionably have better performances than SHLs; however, the EHL products seem to be too expensive to be utilized as the primary standard of care for hemophilia. However, the economic aspect of the replacement factor switching still required more in-depth studies.
